  6. Ahhhhhh, music to my ears! you cant beat the sound of a nice big diesel lump. Nice idea about the pre heat on the York, Other than the starting problems, i thought it was quite a good set up in my RRC. I would like to put a V8 diesel in an old Fordson Major i have Maybe one day!
  7. Yes mine had an easy start addiction! Used cans of the stuff To bee honest though they had a bad reputation at the time, but once the thing was running it was a joy to drive, and i would have kept it if it had "give up" worst one was i went to Cherbourg with it on an over night ferry, started it up when we were docking and filled the car deck with white smoke, and i mean filled it to the point you could not see the 3 rows of cars behind needless to say i left rather rappidly (well tried)
  8. HA HA !!! I had one of them in my old RRC What a total nightmare to start on cold days, 1 small pre heater in the inlet manifold trying to start 6 cyl Ran it for about 6 months, and then the water pump went and cooked it beyond repair! it Just turned a nice Rangie in to tractor! so popped a V8 back in, Happy days Ian

  12. Hi there, I sure they are skinned? i had a badly rusted one on my old RRC in 96 and im sure back then you could buy outer skins but not the steel inner section? Brought a new one in the end, Looking at yours though it would repair without too much trouble. Ian
  13. Wise advise! i went down this road a few years ago, and it was more trouble than it was worth, just stick to a good head unit and forget the switches
  14. Im doing my front one tomorrow now, just in case!!!
  15. I found if you get a spanner on it, and give it one almighty sharp blow with a hammer its enough to crack the thread. Ian
  16. Hi all, Last week i had a grumble on the o/s rear wheel, so i went and got a wheel bearing kit, changed it and all was well. Done about 30 miles yesterday and noticed a slight rumble on the n/s, nothing major, So today i thought i should do it, then that leaves just one front one, as i did the o/s front a few months ago. On removing the half shaft i was greeted with a wash of thick brown gloop (you know the stuff, the kind you would only ever find in a LandRover ) I took the outer bearing out, not too bad, bit rough. give the hub a good pull and out fell this What i want to know is how the hell did this manage to keep quiet for so long? Regards Ian
  17. Hi Scott, This is where long handled screw drivers come in to play! as long as the jubile clip is facing the right direction, Best way is to fill back up, remove rad plug, fill it up, replace plug, top up expantion tank to half way, run it for a while, keep an eye on the level at the tank, it should drop after a while, keep topping up to half way until it holds its level. When running for a bit, turn your heater on to see if its getting warm. If its not give the top hose a few squeezes, This can move any air locks around and out. Take it your trying to drain the rad? Ian
