  1. Nearly the same colour as my LR too! Cheers, Paul
  2. Thanks for that. The deal has just been done!
  3. Ok, so how do you get a google robot to reside on a site?
  4. Thanks Chris, I have book marked that company. I am sure there are worse places to break down. My problem will be finding someone over there good with the spanners!
  5. Thanks for the advice. I think the air vent is part of the problem as it leaks badly. I'm sure that water infiltration hasn't helped. Just to cheer me up, I took the LR down to the LR garage to get an assessment this afternoon. He said the metal work needs changing from the window to the bottom of the bulkhead. He said it would cost 700 euro! I asked how could he tell that without seeing the extent of the rust. It looks pretty superficial to me. There was a lot of coughing and twitching in response.
  6. I get yeh! Chris seems to know what he is about, so I'm sure it is a coincidence.
  7. I have noticed that when a post is added to LR4x4 it is instanly recognised by Google on a search. How is that possible? I have been submitting my site to every search engine know to man, and I'm still only recognised by 3. Something else I noted, when my site is picked up by google, it is headed by "Home2 rather than the site name or description. What am I doing wrong? Does LR4x4 pay for web search/link promotion? Cheers in advance. Paul.
  8. I am, what the hell do i do if this happens in the middle of one of my tours in Transylvania?
  9. Thanks for that, I will get on to them now. Paul
  10. Thats where it all goes wrong, as I can't weld and have no welding equipment. I am going to have to get it done by a garage, but I worry that they will just stick a plate over the top rather than look further and deeper. I'm just going to have to learn these things, and get a bit more equipment. Cheers, Paul.
  11. I really like Szeged. I usually stay at the Novotel there for a good nights kip before the long dangerous drive through Romania. Never seen the fog though.
  12. Eventually got the pics sorted. Does anyone recognise what type of snorkel I have? As you can see I made a good job of it in the multi-storey car park!
  13. P****d down with rain nearly the whole time I was in the UK. The best day was when I returned on the ferry, which obviously was too late. The barrel got a whole lot worse and now turns to 90o. I wrote to DLS-UK asking for the part, but have had no reply yet. I also took it to a small 4x4 garage outside King's Lynn, and they said the whole mechanism may need changing as the handle is sloppy as well.
  14. I agree about the obvious change in road conditions between the two countries.
  15. Here are some pics I took of the corrosion. Please can someone let me know what part I should be ordering (steel plate description) for the welding job? Cheers, Paul.
  16. I have never been on the Birmingham toll road, but it does amaze me that a top quality road should be a toll road. What is all that road tax being paid for. West Norfolk roads are amazing. The council simply throws the tar on the road, then chucks stones all over it. They don't even use a roller, as they leave our cars to embed the stones in the tar. So many of my friends have put claims into the council over the years to get the tar removed from the paint work. They complain saying this should not happen if you drive at the designated 10mph, but they always pay. Cheaper for them to pay off a few complaints than do the job properly. An absolute scandal.
  17. You are right about Austria. I drive from west to east twice a year, and the roads there are amazingly poor. Have you tried the toll road in Hungary from the Austrian border to Budapest, and from Budapest to Szeged. That is a real beauty, which was apparently built by a French contractor.
  18. Interestingly (or not), you get a lot of time to think when driving 400 miles in a Defender. I did notice that the speed I was doing varied with the tarmac I was on. This may seem ridiculous, but it is true! I drove from the UK to Germany and passed through France, Belgium and Holland on the way. The smoother the tarmac, which was noticeably smooth in Holland, my LR cruised nicely at 70 MPH. However, as soon as I entered Germany I was back down to 65 MPH, and she found it a bit more of a struggle to stay at 70. Anybody else noticed this, or have I had too many hours at the wheel?! Cheers, Paul.
  19. That really is a total s**t! So soory to hear that. Nothing to do with the red-ex I hope! I have just got back to Munster, and have been sticking the stuff in with every 50 litres. I'm sold on it! Cheers, Paul.
  20. I manged to find a 500m bottle for £6.99 in Wilco. Cheapest I have found so far. Where are you going East? I am travelling East too. On the ferry at the moment, then back to Munster. I stopped on my way to the ferry to help a guy on the M20 in a 1 year old German registered Defender 90 from Nuremberg. He had a blow out with a brand new tyre. Completely shredded. Turns out he was a Brit and staying 10 miles away from my parents. Small world. Cheers, Paul
  21. Thanks Lads, it is nice to know i wasn't imagining it, as it really has made a difference. Cheers, Paul.
  22. I put some Red-ex diesel in the LR today, and it really seems to have made a difference. Do you think this is possible after 20 miles, or is it Psychological after paying £3.69 for 100mls? Cheers, Paul
  23. Hi, I am just in the process of ordering a new dome for top of snorkel after destroying existing one in local multi storey car park. I am going to have to knock the small dent out of the roof as well, when it leaned back before going into orbit! I have a similar clearance problem with the garage if I wanted a roof rack. At the moment without one, I have about an inch and a half spare in height. Does anyone know of a roof rack that sits that low? It must also be able to carry the weight of me walking up top (100kg) and take a roof tent. Tents are another matter. I have given up on the bed in the back scenario as there will not be enough room for the rest of my kit. Whoever, I speak to the differences of opinions are amazing. I like the idea of the sealed box that lifts straight up. Seems very practical, but probably the most expensive of the options. Cheers, Paul.
  24. Thanks for all the advice. I certainly saw it slip past the bend, and it is anout 10 inches in length. I have got to change the sender unit, as the fuel guage is not accurate. already got a new one for the job. Do you think I will be able to get it out when i do this job? I have just nipped onto forum from friends house as couldn't find a single cafe with wi-fi in King's Lynn! What is that all about. Cheers, Paul
