  1. Mine shows egr valve short circuit or stuck closed depending on which day it is! and its not even there Lynall
  2. So what was the mpg Before the decat mod? Lynall
  3. The thermostat is used to maintain the coolant at the optimum temperature for efficient combustion and to aid engine warm-up. The thermostat is closed at temperatures below approximately 82°C (179°F). When the coolant temperature reaches approximately 82°C the thermostat starts to open and is fully open at approximately 96°C (204°F). In this condition the full flow of coolant is directed through the radiator. The thermostat is exposed to 90% hot coolant from the engine on one side and 10% cold coolant returning from the radiator bottom hose on the other side. Hot coolant from the engine passes from the by-pass pipe through four sensing holes in the flow valve into a tube surrounding 90% of the thermostat sensitive area. Cold coolant returning from the radiator, cooled by the ambient air, conducts through 10% of the thermostat sensitive area. In cold ambient temperatures, the engine temperature is raised approximately 10°C (50°F) to compensate for the heat loss of 10% exposure to the cold coolant returning from the radiator bottom hose. By-pass flow valve Simple eh Lynall
  4. Its normal if you read on the rave disc how the stat works it amazingly complicated, 96 degc is the correct temp, so when you see people posting they have removed their viscous fan from their TD5 i dont think they realise how close to terminal meltdown they are during normal running never mind with no std fan When i first got my nanocom i was suprised to see the dash gauge go to std running temp even hough nanocom showed coolant was only 75 degc. Got bored after a few days and it only comes out when i have a fault. Lynall
  5. Changed my silencer for a straight through pipe last saturday and this saturday put the silnecer back on what a bloody row . Drumming and resonating in the cabin, embaressing around town. Did sound good with the windows down but would be very annoying on a run, and according to my wife i am going deaf! TD5 by the way Lynall
  6. Crank pulley tight? Lynall
  7. Only cheap thing is the Nanocom. Lynall
  8. Mines been good saved me a few quid at the dealers, and of course when car sold it will sell well on e-bay. Lynall
  9. Quick look on Rave and there are only 2 pipes to the engine the high pressure from the in tank pump which goes straight to the reg, and the return from the reg which goes to the cooler then back to the filter head. So i dont think your prob is the reg its just need the piping checking because regardless the piping must be similiar between the 01 and 04 model as its only the engine thats different Seems fuel goes through low pressure stage in the in tank pump to the filter head back to the second high pressure 60psi stage in the in tank pump, then up to the engine to the reg on the head. Lynall
  10. Carl Have you get the fuel pipes on correct as the later engines have a different fuel reg as the head is drilled different. My pump was screaming as the filter was blocked! Lynall
  11. e-bay td5 ecu a few on there I think the following have their own ecu sunroofs, mounted above the sun roof switchs powerfold mirrors, bolted to nearside inner wing pass footwell engine slabs suspension and abs brakes behind glovebox ACE behind glovebox BCU behind glovebox Reverse sensors behind rear vent panel Prob missed one! Lynall
  12. Thats the engine ecu, the bcu ecu is a different matter it and the speedo head go together and i think the alarm is tied up to it as well, was reading about this the other day but cant remember where. Lynall
  13. Only way derv can get into a tdi sump is through the lift pump, rub the oil between your fingers and smell it. TDI are a painto check the oil on best way is to let it stand overnight. 200 even harder takes an age to drain and settle Lynall
  14. I have fitted plenty of second hand turbos and all have been okay my own TD5 has a 2nd hand one that i fitted about 1.5yrs ago as the old one cracked. Fit a cheapy and then when the Bell one is ready fit that and resell the cheapy. Lynall
  15. I have only ever seen a brake hose swollen once and that was okay externally but totally closed up inside but the car was 30years old! Lynall
  16. Well if its empty simply unbolt the rad and the pipework and throw it in the bin. If you are going to keep at the offroading i would keep the comressor in place and use it as a tyre pump. All the gubbins in the dash can stay there. Lynall
  17. Mark to fix rear door get someone to hold end of door when open, loosen top hinge bolts, lift door slightly, tighten bolts job done. Lynall
  18. You still have air in the system, make sure the slave cylinder bleed nipple is at the top otherwise it will never bleed up, clutch pipe goes up to a switch on the inner wing then to the cylinder. Maybe be worth while back bleeding it using an oil can and some small rubber tubing done this on many a truck. Lynall
  19. Bells Auto Services are developing a vnt direct swap turbo for the TD5. Lynall
  20. Both sunroofs have the drain tubes at the front so by parking uphill maybe you filled the rear of the drain tray to its max and as you put it onto the car onto the flat as the water went from back to front it spilled over the sides? Lynall
  21. Stripped and cleaned the ones in my old 98 es many a time worked each time but fiddly and best of all cost nowt Lynall
  22. Just tell the supplier its a 300tdi, from memory there were two pulley sizes and the later 300tdi had the smaller pulley so poor alt spun faster for more power also had shorter belt due to the pulley size. Lynall
  23. The covers you have are probably for the ES model (96 onwards) which has removaable headrests and also armrests. Lynall
  24. E-bay for the sensors most of the trucks i work on have plastic levelling valves. Lynall
