  1. Hammer a socket over the nut this cuts off the excess pin then wind the nut off never had one damage the thread yet! then if you need to reuse it drill the pin out on a vice. Lynall
  2. My last TDI and my current TD5 disco do 80mph at approx 3k, but only just rev past 4k flat out! Lynall
  3. Fuel cooler can be clearly seen with the top engine cover removed, to change the reg remove top engine cover lay on the engine one hand/arm under the inlet manifold and the other from in top, head torch essential, the 3 bolts that hold it to the head are 10mm head size and are tight, 6 sided socket a must do not use 12 point socket!, the pipe fittings are 14mm size spanner, once cracked use a 15mm spanner to spin them off as space is tight, took me about an hour on my first and only on eso far! No 0-ring just a steel plate gasket, costs about £1. Lynall
  4. Measure your 300 one centre to centre and i am sure someone will measure theres for you! Lynall
  5. No its a plug and play but it can also be custom mapped on some dyno rollers. Lynall
  6. It is as it goes forward to the left of the pic and the foam in the cover is pressed against the pipe hence the external corrosion, i think its a lot more complicated than the pic shows as the two pipes pictyred are welded together. Lynall
  7. So what you are saying is after 150 miles you have not dropped to the 3/4 mark whereas before you would be nearly into the last quarter mark, so before the acetone it did 200 to the tank and now it does 500 to the tank which is what a TDI does anyway! Lynall
  8. Pic from file from the net somewhere Lynall
  9. When they first came out for D2 i got one car would not start! sent back, got it back ok but would then stall at most annoying moments then would not restart, sold it e-bay went to Gary at TD5Alive and got a remap done never been any bother for last 2 years. Lynall
  10. Perm 4 wheel drive only one whel has to spin and you lose all drive, lock centre diff and one wheel on each axle has to spin before you lose drive Only way to lock all 4 wheels is to have locking diffs in the axles. The centre diff is in the transfer box. Lynall
  11. I think early disco air con and fan was a completely seperate unit from the std heater fan unlike later disco and the air con fan is on the passenger side behind where the glovebox would be and the std fan is buried in the dash. So maybe you just have a fuse gone on the std fan? Lynall
  12. Looks good i bet that will make some noise on the motorway! Lynall
  13. Relation of mine runs his old transit on used veg oil but as he lives in norfolk where there are no hills (and they all drive so sloooow) power is not such a problem. If its a n/a diesel it will always be slow full stop! Lynall
  14. Works but power is down, doesnt burst into life as per usual, smokes a lot more, makes in tank pump work very hard ( gets noisy) and thats only at 15/20%. Back on straight derv and all is good again. Extra smoke was embaressing Tesco pura brand is the cheapest at 56p litre bottle. Lynall
  15. Mine lost coolant and it was the head gasket , once done still lost a vey small amount of coolant and was the end tank on the rad leaking can be seen from the top with a torch looking through the viscous fan. The water pump is on the left hand front side of the engine under the air con pump. The coolant is called OATS basically any red stuff will do the job looks terrible until mixed with water. Lynall
  16. Tried it in TDI and TD5 no difference if you want to try it get the acetone from e-bay or a ships chandlers. Lynall
  17. Hs is saying the bit is halfway along the engine block so its not crank sensor and as i said a knock sensor which retards the ignition if it detects knocking(pinking). Lynall
  18. EDC is electronic diesel control and does what it says on the tin I like edc as when people say TD5 to complicated compared the their TDI not realising they have edc under their bonnet which is essentially all the same gear as TD5. My last 300 was an auto edc pretty good car, never got anywhere near 30mpg ever. Lynall

  20. If its got low coolant i would not buy it as head gasket prob on its way and if they cant be bothered to check the coolant level what else have they not done. Head gasket failure on a TD5 can be terminal as the plastic dowels shear off and allow the head to move sideways allowing the valves to strike and scrap the cylinder bore writing the engine off. Radiator failure is also common at the plastic end tanks. After a test run if the hoses are rock hard walk away. All TD5 have the pink coolant its called oats organic something! it justs lasts longer than the older stuff Lynall
  21. Mine has ACE and has always been noisy but after 3.5 yrs i no longer pay it any attention!. I have had almost every make of spinner filter in my car and have never heard it when driving or when switching off. Lynall
  22. 1200kms to a tank of diesel ho ho i get between 400 and 450 miles to a tank depending on how its driven, which is no where near 1200kms. I average 25mpg. Facelift disco have nicer looking interior especially the ES version. I have a 2001 ES and its a bit to beige. Lynall
  23. Have read if you just fit dash cluster and the bcm not told the mileage readings keeps flashing. Contact Gary at TD5Alive. Lynall
  24. Nope but law states you must have headlight washers and auto adjusting headlights or suspension, to stop other road users getting dazzled. I have recently fitted philiphs extra power bulbs to My 01 TD5, bloody amazing cost £20 of e-bay. Road legal and no messing around, they really are good. Lynall
