  1. You have got to get the ES model as you wont be able to live without the compass auto dimming rear view mirror! Lynall
  2. Fixed mine the same way a few years back and whilst it never burst into life like my older 300 and 200 it was much better. Lynall
  3. Jules is spot on ES every time. I prefer the manaul as auto 2 to 3 mpg worse, but hate the manual in crawling traffic and my wife hates the manual gearbox full stop! Air suspension comes in either 5 or 7 seater depending on model spec and whether option or not. Have a look ere. www.lefouanglais.co.uk Lynall
  4. To get faults cleared at dealer is about £100 So change buggered bearing and buy a Nanocom clear the faults yourself and the nanaom will only owe you £100 Which will help with all faults on the TD5 D2 Just cleared the faults on a 02 D2 with new bearing fitted and all is lovely! Lynall
  5. Boggy i thought the jap reimport have ecu? I thought the 19 series engine was the old turbo diesel piece of carp and not the TDI? Lots of thoughts all prob wrong . Lynall
  6. Both my last 300 tdi cracked the oil ring on number 4 cyl, never ran any different just a tadge more smoke than normal. But in your case if it runs fins at 3k and for a while at idle afterwards i would be looking at a fuel problem. Dont forget all engines breath and there is always oil present in the inlet pipework on every turbo diesel i have ever worked on, even new ones! Lynall
  7. Had mine up the other day and on the base piston there was a rubbery build up with all dirt stuck to it, cleaned it all off luckily no damage or wear to the airbag. As for the puncture comment i think in Germany that is the law and thats where all the part worn tyres come from. Lynall
  8. If its a 200 style its as said but if its a 300tdi the screen is bonded in and the seal is just a finisher strip. To cure leaks from top strip was to lift it away from the paint and apply a thin bead of silicone and the let the strip go and squish out the sealant. Lynall
  9. Not on 200 or 300 up until about 96ish. Lynall
  10. Check turbo wastegate has not seized if it has engine overboosts and goes into limp home mode. Few drips of oil down shaft and lots of working back and forth worked on mine and several others i have read about. Not sure why the oil works even though it must burn of but work it does. Lynall
  11. Just had my td5 box out to cure a squeal from cold first thing and it was the dual mass flywheel breaking up with iron filings everywhere. The old one had quite a bit of play or twist either way, the new one very little and was also more dampened on the new one, the main problem was the wibble wobble ( tech term! ) factor of the centre plate on the dmf! Clutch had done 30k and was as new release bearing was totally shagged. New rear main seal would be a good idea. Lynall
  12. Mine doesnt but im always in a hurry 25mpg ish What speed you doing on the long runs? Lynall
  13. M reg auto is pre EDC, EDC came out 96 model year. You can tune std injector pumps takes 1/4 hour and costs nowt unlike chipping! As std very very slow, but so much nicer with no trans clunk and the never ending joy of attempting the smooth gearchange. Did i say very very slow i meant very very slowwwwwww Lynall
  14. If hoses pressurized almost cetianly head gasket. As said once head gasket done your rad will then leak as the excess coolant pressure will have knackered the end tanks about £120 ish e-bay Lynall
  15. The weld tip is good for the outer race in the hub as the weld cools it pulls the track inwards making it slightly smaller and easier to remove. I would go with the angle grinder and watch the metal when it starts to go blue you are nearly through stop and use the chisel. Eye protection mega important Lynall
  16. Almost certianly head gasket Get it changed then you will have enough time to run it before the italy trip to see if its okay. Lynall
  17. Isnt it just a std 12volt horn? Lynall
  18. I know its cable driven, maybe worth removing the glass and having a better look, whilst moving it. Lynall
  19. I used to have an old Kawasaki gpz1100 witht the same style of air flow meter and i can remember that also clacked sometimes, was a long time ago though . Lynall
  20. Seat switch take it out of car and onto bench take it apart be careful full of springs and ball bearings that go everywhere, clean all contacts and refit it and all should be okay mine used to need this every 6 mths or so. My last 300 was a cat D, do a google for vosa the goverment testing people that control mots trucks etc. Lynall
  21. It is a 5 minute job i got a can of r134 by castrol of e-bay (where else!) Air con as fitted to cars loses about 10% volume of gas per annum. So mine was 5 years old and whilst it cooled it was not cold enough, so one can and its been as good as gold for last 18mths or so. Also worked on wifes Mini same age as disco and her old Merc. So long as it works at the moment it prob just wants a top up and the can will acheive this cheapl Lynall
  22. Rear door handle sticking, prise out the landrover badge oil the handle pivot points and squirt some in the door for good measure, worked on all my discos so far . I reckon you will have to remove the front door trim and see whats up before you cant open it at all Lynall
  23. Cant you just stick the flange from the 200 diff onto the td5 diff? alot easier and no mess either Have a measure on the 200 diff from the flange and get under the td5 and you will be able to see if the prop will fit. Another reason to stick with the td5 diff is its prob 10 years newer than the 200 diff. Lynall
  24. Looked at mine last night and they are the 23mm ones with two washers under each one, for the 18" wheels, so i removed the stops and the washers and refiited the stop and it only touched very slightly on full lock one side, so i refitted one washer to each side which has done the trick, but i will have to keep a look out for thinner washers. The thread is about 20mm long so plenty to play with. Lynall
  25. My t/c also sounds like a machine gun and has done for the last 3 years so it must be normal! Tyres make a huge difference my current pirrelis are nearly worn out and the old girl slips and slides eveywhere and thats just on the road, t/c and abs cuts in quite a lot purely becasue the tyres are ****e Fitted plenty of different types of spinnner filter to my TD5 but have never heard it wind down as i have heard on the trucks at work. Mine also makes the pulsating buzzing noise from under the bonnet which i think is the abs modulator, and the hissing from the sls as you get out of the car and also when you unload from the boot as the sls corrects itself.
