  1. Jon I have some 4.7 diffs in the garage, will the detroit guts fit in these or do I have to use the 3.54's I have in the LR at present.
  2. Is there any chance of hiring a LR in Scotland ( Iassume yes) I'm up probably 1st week of December to a birthday bash. May make a week of it to go over the pass if thought possible and not ill advised at that time of year.
  3. Thanks all, I know it will cost money, first half shafts cos they break regularly, then diffs.
  4. Nige the trailer hire is an option, you could tow with the Merc it is big enough probably. I may have access to a trailer at times as well but not all the time. Get a friendly mechanic to help you on site, preferably one who works somewhere with a transporter.
  5. Many thanks I must now give it some thought, I'm in a series 3 with 2.25 petrol so not overpowered.
  6. Is it a relatively simple job to change a locker from 3.54 to 4.7 ratio. With the big tyres etc mine is now overgeared and 4.7 could be the answer.
  7. Zeus at Exmouth still make a conversion at about £600 + VAT if you want to buy one. You may not end up much cheaper if you buy all the parts, I was lucky to have a load of free bits as a start.
  8. No pictures yet, you will need a bigger lathe I suspect, if you have one Santana why not make a second after all its only a copy. I have used only Mercedes and Land Rover parts plus my own home made bits.
  9. I am also in the process, done one side, the other side is now fairly easy. You need a lathe at least and a decent pillar drill or mill, I mill on the lathe with a vertical slide. You need to be able to check run out etc accurately and machine to a reasonable standard. Mine is probablt y different, no definitelt, to Tonk or Jon White as we are I think all using different parts, it will probably be a prototype anyway and lead to a better? or at least different solution in the future. If you want a look see me at an event, but like Tonk i am dubious about giving out to much info although when on I may well post some pics.
  10. Heres mine. Diff Locks Now on Grizzlys. Mechanical winches front and rear. Parabolics and extended hangers. Disc brakes on front very soon. Twin Batteries. 2.25 petrol.
  11. Mine playing. and not in the water.
  12. Just a test to see if I can put a photo on here.
  13. Ask Nige it certainly sticks to the cat!
  14. You could also chamfer the leading edges on the shoes, it sometimes helps.
  15. Just athought on fairleads, stainless would seem to be best, alloy as Scorpion or similar is another option, mild steel seems to be a no no, it rusts and burrs and will damage the rope. What about a steel fairlead chrome plated to a good standard, it can be made up fairly easily and then chromed, any real problems with this?
  16. Nige I have a two way switch from a boat chandlers in Portsmouth it is four position Batt 1, Batt 2 Batts 1& 2 or Off. t also has aterminal for the charge light to tell you if whatever you chose is charging Good quality and I've had it underwater (at Minstead last year) with no adverse effects. You're welcome to pop in and have a look anytime.
