  1. Not great on electrics so some help would be great. My rear demist (1991 200tdi) when switched on comes on after a few seconds or like the last few days a couple of minutes or not at all. My initial guess would be to take switch apart and clean contacts up then panic as i need to find a relay somewhere. Anyone point me in the right direction please
  2. I agree it is well signposted in the subtle red with a million signs but as soon as I enter the warning zone i think i am in it not 100m away or whatever. Much the same as blues and twos behind me I always think it's me.
  3. hmmm black rr sports and Q7s being nicked and sold on to SA criminals and drug dealers. Is that just a question of geography?
  4. Forgive me for stating the bleedin obvious but what difference does a couple of seats and a set of windows make to emissions? Can i get extra tax credit on my company car if i fit a couple of sunroofs to it which clearly will reduce my emissions into the 14% levels........ Dunno how londoners put up with this bollox. I find it more and more irritating each time i go into london trying to suss out where the conjestion zone starts and if i have inadvertently crossed the start line. The number of times i end up paying it just in case and then driving straight thru the centre to get my moneys worth really makes it a lot of sense. The thing to remember is that the percentage of cyclist, free perk bus and tube passes users is incredibly high in any local government organisation. Put into that the guardian reading pen pushers who see landys as something those hunting types use and you really don't stand a chance
  5. You will also find that all 'normal' insurers won't touch landrovers and a driver under 21. I dont know if this is anything with an engine over 2 litres as my broker told me or just landrovers. hence daughter in citroen to get no claims and driving.
  6. for what it's worth insured daughter 17 now 18 yrs, on a 04 plate citroen C2 value 3k registered in her name for 1200 whilst on provisional and then 1700 on full licence. What i did find was initially just putting her on insurance was 3000 pa and then meteoric rises to 12k!! Once put old fogey i.e. me, brought it down to more acceptable levels. Admiral are doing some good deals for young drivers that you may benefit from. Also if you still at home look at one of their multicar policies a mate found it saved him about a grand over the four cars he has. In my case they wouldn't touch the landrover and with my wifes saab added we gained nothing
  7. sorry trigger in brain meant i forgot had a nice list which i pulled from somewhere else. Now got link: http://www.carpages.co.uk/car-insurance/car-insurance-group-1-1.asp
  8. For elder daughter I used this as a guide: http://www.carinsurancegroups.co.uk/
  9. Not the roof i know but, I covered rear of mine with carpet putting a dense foam onto the top of the wheel arches first then the carpet. i used some of the spray adhesive available from your friendly carpet fitter. Dunno what it is but it goes off in minutes and sticks like nothing. in the year since doing it nothing has moved. Oh and the fumes as you do it are incredible. after doing one side panel i worked out that it might be better to have some ventialtion alternately braethe and enjoy
  10. love the comment no tyre kickers sale is difficult enough...................read impossible so we have a completely standard 306 with big wheels and a special paint job, next he'll move onto a early 200tdi defender 90 give it big knobbly tyres and judge dread paint job and wait to get 8k why is it that people with the most outlandish treatments (don't set me off on celicas with meccano mixed with tea trays on the boot and flip flop paint) seem to think they have created a work of covetable art and not just a one off that only a mother could love. nice execution of the limited bits done to the body but acquired taste methinks now if he'd slid a 3.9 vitesse chromed and ported in there we could be more interested hmmmm what about the sides of my truck with ww2 battle scenes airbrushed in subtle greens and black
  11. will be working in wakefield barnsley area tomorrow will keep an eye out hopefully one of the industrial units i go past may have it
  12. i would look at the rudd and pewag. both make excellent quality european chain for all sorts of uses, we buy it in for our crane hoists and have tried out most of the other chain suppliers and always come back to the same suppliers. has anyone had a go with Autosocks on a defender? I've had them on my last mondeo and my new C5 and found them excellent and seen several truck in germany running them but never defender.
  13. PTO Pretty Things on Outside ohhh yes sir lots of little Chromey bits and on the inside manbag hooks a plenty But on a serious note the side view works aside from cartoon wheels, front needs to lose the freelander grill as per sport render. I have hope that the Toyota retro can be repeated
  14. try auto paint on little horton lane bradford. they mix up as you wait. when i went in i was in the citroen so we worked on a series if swatches to guess the nearest sahde of arles blue. also bought a fantastic paint remover, looks like a blue pan scrubber stuck on a drill bit. with very little pressure it strips the paint and leaves a finish like a stainless pan Tony
  15. daan Nothing to do with the fuel option, I was referring to HFH and his multi tool kit of retribution. for what it's worth i'd go for the V8 any day with a switchable lpg for long trips if that would work, failing that a V6 with supercharger, says the man with a 200tdi. tony
  16. I think if I was in the same position I would consider leaving the country
  17. hopefully the blue smoke will give enough cover for you to crawl blast away before he tips water over his bedside radio inducing mild electric shock , trips as puts on trousers causing falling down stairs, recovering in time to fly headfirst thru his door, standing on a handy rake in garden which in turn flips garden shears up and into shoulder. Just in time to see the blue smoke clear and see you three doors down,
  18. can almost go with that but TDi has a soil pipe for an exhaust so still going to make no difference. if you ever lose the manifold gasket tween header and down pipe you will notice shed load of noise but nothing else. the engine hasn't enough draw to get backfiring. Now try it with an old rover vitesse and hear it pop and the power will rise a bit.
  19. hate to upset anyone but straight thru exhausts on normal cars make bugger all difference. In a previous life I sold roots blowers which need lots of silencing. Our silencer bod had a side line doing stright thru manifolds and cherry bomb straight thrus for several euro touring cars inc volvo V70 SW. He also sold to cavalier sri owners but confessed that when they tested them on dyno bed it made less than 2 bhp diiference at the flywheel. in the touring cars 350 bhp+ they gained an extra 20-30 bhp mainly cos of the reduced back pressure. So I think unless you have a very different TDi to mine it's all an audial illusion, in the same way if you get one of the vauxhall insignias which sport button there is no more actual power but it the ecu revs more quickly so feels much more powerful
  20. Dunno seemed to get away lightly for me. I have to say I would be very very afraid we all know what self inflicted injuries Nige laughs off as a little cut and the no pain micro surgery he performs to remedy said cut. To paraphrase our banjo playing friends over the pond: "Squeal like a pig, Boy"
  21. thanks to all will adjust idle speed over weekend,
  22. You're right MIG is not better than arc but it is a lot easier and as ARC puts a hell of a lot of heat into your weld it's not the best for in situ welding as distortion or thermic lance type operation is only seconds away. Mig is always a bit ugly cos it's not so well controlled hence the joy of spatter but it is fairly foolproof. personally i would only use stick on >10mm plate and TIG on <1mm hence i have a fairly underpowered clarke 105 MIG set. I reckon if i can't do it with my set then it's gonna be structural and i shouldn't be playing around. Just a thought
  23. Probably doesn't matter but it's getting to me on start up battery light comes on and stays on until give right foot a blast then goes out until next time it's been sat a while. Is there anything I should be looking at? alternator is charging belts all tight so am at limit of my knowledge. cheers
  24. sadly popped into Tesco at Grimsby following Simon's advice. Evidently never seen virgin in grimsby.
  25. Rob where are you? will keep eye out in death valley for anything resembling team of landy lifters as I travel around there at least once a week
