  1. Filip Sounds very interesting and will try it later when I get home from work. Do you know if the later ECU and motor fit the earlier model. I have both that I have taken off a 2000 plate P38 which I scrapped.
  2. Thanks for the offer but I fear a little too far. I am in Scotland. I have a friend who has Rovacom and he has a P38.
  3. Thanks I paid peanuts for it and so far cannot find any major issues. I have a brand new batter I can put in it. The engine is just not quite right I cannot pin i down so it could be as you have suggested. Thanks at least I have somewhere to start to look.
  4. Collected my new toy yesterday 800 mile round trip later I have been playing. Have had it out on the road and done about 30 miles with little in the way of problems. Brake fluid needed topped up but that done I have two things outstanding. The issues that I have are as follows:- The message centre shows "Select Neutral" all the time except when I do as requested. The engine I was told was overheating but I can find no evidence having had a chance to go for a run. The engine does seem a lttle gravelly/lumpy but that could be me getting used to a V8 again. There is plenty of power. Also the message centre is faded at one end so I was wondering if I can use the instrument cluster that I took out of my 2001 Vogue this is a 1997 HSE.
  5. Now the chassis is fitted a number of small snags have appeared. I cannot get the break pedal to firm up. Ideas please. The heater matrix has started to leak and temporarily I have looped it out. How difficult/big a job is it to sort this?
  6. With cars now being very computerised and having fault codes etc. One needs a device to access and reset. I have a CSK, a Disco 2 and very soon a P38. What would be the best kit to buy to access the brains of these vehicles. I have looked around and I see there is Lynx by Britpart, Hawkeye by Bearmach to name but two where I can buy licences specifically for my vehicle. Which is best and what others are available?
  7. Snaggers Yes I get your point and certainly £10k spent would do a detailed job. Have spent about half of that and only replaced the chassis with new brakes and suspension. At the end of the day most people will only pay a certain range for any vehicle. There is a top end and a bottom end no matter what you do to it. In my case it is a 2001 Discovery. To me the work is valuable and means I can keep the car for 3 to 5 years but that does not make it worth the value I have invested in it if I was to sell it on.
  8. HS This would have been great thanks unfortunately the max weight they do is 2600kg and I need 3500ky for a P38 MG I am not sure he still does trailer hire. All Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions I have found a company in Rosyth that hires out 3500kg ones. A bit of a trek but very necessary. I was beginning to panic about getting it home.
  9. As much as I like the utility of a Defender I do like my home comforts and love the P38 it was a real luxury motor and am looking forward to collecting it next week. The Disco as you can see from this tread has a nice new galvie chassis and lot and lots of other nice new bits. Have added front and rear HD power points for the winch receiver hitch front and rear and spot lights. Am really looking forward to play time. I will keep the Range Rover as a back up for when the Disco breaks down and to use when I go out.
  10. Has anybody tried to run a TD5 engine on Bio Diesel from recycled veg oil? I would be very interested in results.
  11. JBS Indespension only do a 2700kg trailer which is no good for the P38 which comes in at 2.5 tonnes on its own but thanks. I have have also tried Mr Towbar in Troon and HSS hire who are going to get back to me tomorrow. The problem here is the weight but all suggestions greatly appreciated. Simon
  12. Help!!. I need to hire a trailer as above to take a P38 from Oxford to my home in Glasgow. Does anybody know where I can hire a flat bed trailer with ramps to take 2.5 tonne load?? Carlisle is also an option if necessary. Thanks
  13. At last I have got it back. A few teething issues that will need a dressing down but I have a solid platform from which to work at last. Front tow bar to go on along with the front power point. But looking good. It has a soft brake pedal which I think just needs some bedding in before rebeading, and they have forgotten to put the sound insulation under the centre console. The window switches are also in the wrong order.
  14. I have had Freelander 1 & 2, Classic RR's. P38's and this Disco. I still have my CSK and my Disco and am getting the P38. Love all three when they go properly.
  15. past I had an 57 plate HSE from new for three and a half years. A very good reliable car once I got past a couple of issues. One related to the turbo waste gate valve and the other was a knackered fuel sender reporting more fuel than the car had. Otherwise a very good and very comfortable car. I did 38,000 in it before I sold it. Only sold it because of financial issues.
  16. Getting Disco back tomorrow if the handbrake cable arrives. The garage are saying the brakes are not great and will need bedding in what views? It is new pads, calipers and discs.
  17. If I remember properly I think you may need to keep the tunnel cover off the donor gearbox. but that will not be a problem installing as the fittings are the same.
  18. Jason Like others I don't know you. I have never suffered from depression however I do have dyslexia which in my early years affected severely my self confidence. Unlike most I do appreciate what goes on in the head and appreciate even if I do not understand the difficulties that you have. Your friends will always support you and having read the support of the forum I think the more supported that you have the better you should feel. Like everyone else has said a speedy recovery and stick with it we are all behind you.
  19. I have all the front ones. A friend was overna dn we worked out that there is a panel in the base of the cubby box and under it there are two bolts so sorted. But thanks for your help anyway.
  20. Can someone tell me where the fixings are re the above. I have got all the front fixings off but it is retained somewhere at the back and for the life of me I cannot see or feel any fixings.
  21. I had thought about it but there is far too much to do. Both A pillars are totally rotten both cills are gone and the rear frame is shot and that is what I know about. Even if I had the welding skill I think it would take far too long. I am looking for a good shell. Also after rebuilding my chassis with new parts it was very enjoyable and relaxing just to potter with it and get it right. So I am looking forward to doing the CSK but that is a very long term project.
  22. Got a price for fitting an engine to the P38 and a car up and running for less than £1k. not too bad. Just hope I can get the life out of it. Nah!! it is a Range Rover.
  23. Task Already spotted they also have a complete car. The problem I have is funds had that been around when I spotted the P38 I would have gone for that instead. My thought is to buy a complete vehicle from Spain just for the shell because mine is well shot!!
  24. Born lucky............whenever anything goes bad I always come out of it better than I went in!! and I mean always I just wish I knew how so I could bottle it and sell it
  25. Jeff You can always have a go at my CSK that just needs a new body shell.
