  1. I think it is to do with the ABS as it all happened when I brakes suddenly and the ABS activated.
  2. I did it for my wife (soon to be ex-wife) last year when her mother passed away. I think I filled in a DVLA form and sent a copy of the death certificate and it all went very smoothly. there was nothing to it. DVLA really looked after it.
  3. Jim so you have delivered the bad news and mcc has the good news but either way it is on to the "pooter". That means a visit to a good friend who has bought all the diagnostic kit and is friends with everybody locally who knows Land Rovers lol. Thanks guys will keep you posted. I suspect that it is something to do with the ABS as it occured when I breaked very hard and activated the ABS.
  4. You have now sorry for the delay on hols and only just got internet connection. What did we do on holiday before the internet
  5. Have one in Paisley that you are welcome to FOC. Just collect.
  6. The initial problem turned out no to exist because when I tried to rest the system the Drivers door was open Doh!! The other day however the Traction control light, the Hill descent light and the ABS light all came on together and will not go out any ideas? Read one article which said about disconnecting the battery to see if the car would recreate the problem.
  7. Just purchased a 2001 Disco ES. Having had Range Rovers and Freelanders for years I thought I would try a Disco for a change having driven a Mondeo for the last 9 months I am collecting the car on Saturday the rear suspension is locked in the raised position and hitting the button on the dash does nothing to sort it. Having had a P38 with air suspension I am guessing that it is not leaking because it is raised and locked. The compressor is obviously functioning as the suspension is raised. The warning light is on on the dash so I would think that it is a sensor problem. Would appreciate any ideas or suggestions
  8. The car is a 2000 MY. Definitely not the parking light. It was the full beam that came on and no lights at the back. I did look at that. Still doing it now the weather has calmed down. (A bit)
  9. Last night had some problems with my range rover. The weather was absolutely foul and am wondering whether the weather is playing a part. When I left the car the near side full beam came on and stayed on. When I blipped the alarm it would go off. I was out at 2am trying to shut it off eventually unplugging the unit. It did not go on immediately tho. The car also reported on the dash that the key was in the ignition when it was locked up. Any ideas?
  10. There we go just needed to copy them from my phone to the computer first. Have used a grinding stone on my Dremel to buff the ragged edge and have put on the first coat of putty I am in need of building it up. Would appear to be a good bond so far only time will tell. The replacement gearbox is not really an option as I am broke at the moment. Once my divorce and my house sells I am going to be loaded but for now I cannot afford to eat let alone repair my car.
  11. Bowie I tried but it needs hosting on a web site and I don't have an account at the moment. Basically it is the middle securing bolt on the sump pan on the near side that has been caught by the splined stump of the propshaft. I have been cleaning the ragged edge with a wire brush on my Dremel but am not sure when it will be clean enough to bond to.
  12. I am in the middle of trying to fix my car after my front prop gave up on the M6 on Tuesday taking out the gearbox. There is a chunk of the casting which has broken off and is now missing. I have some metal putty and am thinking about manufacturing a section of casing is this advisable ? Any advice gratefully received.
  13. It seems everytime I get one problem fixed another one crops up. The day after my MOT my front propshaft gave up on the M6 and put a hole in the gearbox sump. Have ordered a new prop and a service kit for the gearbox and should be able to use epoxy the sort out the very small leak. The question I have is can anyone tell me the oil capacity for the gearbox?
  14. The cruise control on my P38 is not working. I have changed the two short vacuum pipes and have sucked on the long one so am fairly sure that the vacuum side is ok. When the master switch on the dash is pushed in it does not light up should it? Or should it only come on when the system is working? What is likely to be wrong with the cruise control it has never worked on this car but I do miss it.
  15. Just checked it in the dark and no obvious signs of tracking.
  16. I have a miss-fire on my 4.6 Vogue worse on LPG but I would expect that. I have changed the spark plugs which has made it marginally better but haven't a clue where to go after that as it does not have a distributor.
  17. Having a problems starting my 4.6 Vogue P38. There is no spark, have had it on a computer and there is a crank failure and a multitude of other failures which I have been told not to worry about. The thinking is it is either an immobiliser failure or a crank sensor failure. I have ordered a new crank sensor which I will fit tomorrow but I was wondering if anybody has any opinions or experience?
  18. Took the door panel off this am. It turned out that the regulator had busted three spot welds on the activation arm secured to the main body. Drilled 6 holes and used self taping screws to sort it now the window works as it should. Thanks for your help everyone.
  19. Task No sorry I should have been more specific. I have a P38 which is my every day car had to sell my Freelander to live in the current economic climate. The CSK is in need of some TLC which I will do once I have sold the car and divorced the wife.
  20. I have a problem with my passenger front drop glass. The window das dropped off the mechanism somehow and was wondering before I open the door up to have a look if there is a common fault that needs parts. I really only want to open this up fix the problem and close it off. The reason for asking is that i had a chat with a guy from Autoglass when they were replacing the windscreen and he mentioned something about a chanel rotting.
  21. Zim excellent thanks for that I can now start with the block sealer.
  22. Sorry once again guy but I am trying to sort a porous block at the moment and need all the help I can get. I have bought block sealer which I have used with success on my CSK. The question is does the P38 have an inline coolant filter. There is a blob of plastic attached to the bottom hose that looks like a likely culprit if this is the case I need to take it out of the system for the purposed of the block sealer so ideas please.
  23. David Thanks it is quite nice to be back in a Range Rover but I forgot how thirsty they are.
