maybe a stab in the dark but check the sender unit on top of the tank these pipes have been known to rust and let air in my mates 200tdi had this prob mine is a 300tdi n plate and mine had started to rust cleaned and coated in grease remove rear carpet rubber mat and there will be a round plate centre of floor remove the self tapers and check the pipes on top of the tank chris

this week ive been working in fields of cut wheat driving a jcb 3cx this has 2 air filters internal and external took it out today it must of weighed twice its weight full of chaff and dust i think if this was a kn it would pass through the mesh so i think ill stick to paper filters like you said cheaper than rebore etc chris

im beginning to agree with you when you clean it you can see through it it a good job it aint dusty around here at the moment im back on paper filter which at least has a filtering effect chris

i dont think you have said has the egr valve been removed or is this still on the vehicle mine smoked until i removed this also removed cat defender front pipe is a direct replacement as others said a dose of redex or similar may help but the egr valve maybe stuck open if its still on vehicle remove it or blank it off it will make a difference chris

what oil do you use on your filter k&n aint cheap how about a coating of engine oil any one used this your views and what do you use chris

hello mate ive been looking at a safari snorkel my disco 300tdi n plate is non abs but looking at the fitment instructions a abs snorkel would fit as the abs snorkel looks to have a bend missing and appears to go through the wing in a diffewrent place hopefully someone can shred more light on this chris

jim mine went for mot last week thay only do a smoke test basically engine hot then rev for a reading then rev again for another reading the lowest reading is taken when thay first started doing it over here cam belts were breaking some garages as far as i am aware make you sign a paper to stop you claiming against them

i agree there used redex for about 4 years on various motors it works

nice to see its getting better i removed the cat on mine last january it had its mot last week tester said the smoke tese emissions were spot on a defender front pipe is a direct replacement mine is a 300tdi on a N plate fifteen quid is better than 150 give it a dose of redex that will make a difference chris

i used cellulose thinners once say no more nice dull finish though

dont know about that one look on e bay for a egr blanking plate not expensive i thought i would get away with just disconnecting it but it was jamned open anyway so its gone plate bolted onto turbo looks tidier and as i said no smoke or very little ive also tried millers fuel additive it maybe worth a bottle of redex may help a bit chris

hello mate i have a 300tdi n plate disco when i first purchased this 1 year ago when you booted it plenty of black smoke removed egr valve cleaned out intercooler and inlet manifold which was coated in a black marmite solution also removed cat it had its mot this tuesday emissions smoke test spot on there is a thread on this forum if you look through chris

will take photo soon it has a plastic cap large circlip once you remove this you have a large nut and lock washer followed by another nut and a spacer washer apparently you can get difference thickness washers ive always been used to a castle nut and split pin etc the reason ive got to look at it is advisory from mot slight play in both sides in haynes manual this is the later version with apparently only adjustment is from these washers different thickness help

unless im thick why have tapered roller bearings that are not adjustable 300tdi n plate disco can thay be made adjustable or do you throw away and replace with new your views please sorry front wheel bearings

i guess i was worrying about nothing passed test ok tester said emissions smoke was below normal so i guess cats are not needed nor are egr valves thanks for replies

the old chap booked it in thats where hes always gone im at work on tues so hell have a drive down there thats where ive always taken motors always seemed fair its next to go bananas chris

i know its not lr but i got stopped by police last week in a jcb on the road for not having a tooth guard on front bucket 3 points and sixty pound fine or court case i suppose i should of known better but he got a call on his radio gave me a rollocking and roared off on blue lights now got a tooth guard not that it going to do much good with 8 ton pushing it

so whats the score with buses some round here must run on coal but i drive a jcb on the road especially on a hill it smokes like a steam engine but no mot emissions for these chris
