  1. Presumably one would take some photos of the windows and seats in the back, then send them off to TFL with a covering letter, then they would amend the record.

Very much open to interpretation though as above, do the seats need to be in the very back, or do 2nd row seats in a 110 count?

I'll fill one in for my 110, post it off, and see what happens.

Hope you already have photos as taking them now will be a tad difficult :)

  2. So basically all Station Wagons are exempt regardless of age, after 1998 the DVLA will update V5's and before 1998 TFL give you an exemption if you take some pretty pictures.

The wording also makes it look like you could convert a hard top to a station wagon and register it with TFL.... it's open to interpretation.

Thank you to MJIbex for posting the update.... you have made my day! :)

  3. Another useful segment from the tfl website, they now finally have a bit just about Land Rovers.

    Land Rovers

We have worked with Land Rover to establish which vehicles with the body type of 'Light 4x4 Utility Vehicle' are subject to the LEZ. Vehicles manufactured before 1973 are considered to be 'historic' vehicles and are exempt from the LEZ.

The vehicles listed below are subject to the LEZ standards:

    • All Defenders; 88s, 90s, 109s,110s, 127 and 130s (except station wagon variants with up to 9 seats)
    • Freelander Commercial
    • Discovery or Discovery Series 2 Commercial
    • Conversions (eg Ambulance, Motorhome)

The following vehicles are not subject to LEZ as these are classed as 'estates':

    • Defender, 88, 90,109 and 110 station wagons up to 9 seats inc the drivers

Certain vehicles meet the Euro 3 standard because they are early adopters:

    • All Defenders, 90s, 110s, 127s and 130s manufactured after 6 August 2001
    • Freelander Commercial manufactured after 14 September 2000
    • Discovery or Discovery Series 2 Commercial manufactured after 2 July 2001
    • Conversions (e.g. Ambulance, Motorhome) manufactured after 2 January 2002

We've updated our database to reflect these vehicles'emission standards.

A small number of Defenders, 90s and 110s may be a 'station wagon', but may not be classified as such by the DVLA. If your vehicle has side windows and fixed seats in the back of the vehicle, and up to 9 seats including the drivers seat, it will not be subject to the LEZ. In these circumstances you need to:

    • For models registered from 1998 - correct the body type description, vehicle model details and/or number of seats with the DVLA
    • For models registered before 1998 - register your vehicle with TfL with suitable photographic proofs if you intend to use the vehicle in the LEZ.

If you have a Land Rover which is not listed above, please contact us to find out if your vehicle is subject to LEZ.

  4. That Mr Wabbit is a very good question, and one i put to the authorities myself.... Along the lines of " if i have a problem in the future or i want to sell (even though i dont) how do i protect me, or any prospective buyer from this happening again in the future"??

I was assured that all my documentation supplied at the time would be coppied, and stored on file, for ever and ever ah men... Now, how much confidence i/we have on the filing system in place is another matter....

In addition i have a new log book with some keys words noted regarding modifications, i can't recall the 2 words exactly, but along the line of Altered Vehicle...

IMHO, you can't go round pointing fingers of blame to anything that is tax excempt... How many 90's are running around on galv chassis from another motor that dont have matching number???

Again IMHO the point of the current system is to stop criminals making financial gain from vehicle ringing, to build a vehicle of this type 20 years ago was normal, and PC... it now isnt PC that doesnt mean that these vehicles should be condemned any more than green laning used to be PC, and now isn't....

I'll leave the nursery door ajar in case anyone would like to bring some more toys....

Cheers for the reply, VOSA's response shows a big hole in the whole system really.

Say you built and sold your coiler before 1998 it might never have been inspected (other than MOT) and it's quite likely the car may have changed hands many times and documentation lost (as it wasn't required before the sva was introduced). If VOSA today stopped you, they would have no documentation on file as they had never inspected it and the owner would have no paper work as it had been lost (very likely to happen if it had been through a dealer!).

What now happens to a legitimate car? My guess is a big headache for the owner and a Q plate :(

Or maybe they are pragmatic about it and if all the parts look old enough they give you the benefit of the doubt.... assuming you haven't subsequently replaced the parts during ongoing maintenance....

Where is the lid to this can of worms?

  5. .....

What makes me qualified to say this, well, i have been requested to attend a V OSA's facility, with my Series 1 coiler... Mine i know is OK, BUT V OSA's would not, and neither would DVLA offer any kind of supporting documentation to me... Lucky for me i have no plans to sell....

Say I bought your series 1 coiler and had no documentary proof of when the conversion was done, or of it being checked by VOSA. One day I get the attend a VOSA facility 'request' ..... is the onus on me to prove the conversion was done before a certain date or them to prove it was done after? Just curious about this....

  6. .....

(i have seen a nice 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee for sale, which i think i would much prefer to the freelander, but i guess this isnt the place to ask for advice on them  )

I see burning crosses and hoards of angry villagers heading your way ...... burn the heretic... burn him

    EDIT: ... forgot the :)

  7. I'd prefer that to loosing my 110! I'll be ordering more Laser Cutting soon - so I'll make a prototype!

    Si

Lol, perfectly understood, just like I prefer swinging a hefty chunk of steel around than losing my 110 :)

You could stick a small bit of stainless where the pedals rubbed if it bothered you....

  8. You are definitely right about the stowing of the pedal box being an issue, they are also pretty heavy and as they need to be removed before getting in the vehicle you normally end up climbing into the defender while swinging it about in one hand. Having one that you just flipped would be brilliant :)

  9. yes, the mpg doesn't change, the saving comes from the fuel difference.

10-13? :o that seams very low? do you like happy noise? ;)

What I was wondering was did a car go as far for one litre of lpg as it does on petrol, after a bit of a google it seems that you 'lose' about 20% when on LPG so the 10-13 Mpg will become 8-10 MPG

    See http://www.drivelpg...._calculator.php

EDIT: spent too long typing again and tacr2man already confirmed.

  10. a little update, i phoned two companies with very different results! adrian flux quoted me £3092, my last words to them was .... off! :moglite: but need to insure, wow!! £1192!! :i-m_so_happy: once i finally regained conciousness, i said ill be phoning back! :D ill phone Mr pickle tomorrow and see it he can beat that.

so, cheers guys, you have reincarnated my faith for my little Series 2, thank you!^_^

    james

Result! From the figures you had earlier and the figures a few of my mates have mentioned their kids are paying, £1192 is an absolute bargain :)

  11. I know that this would not have helped on this occasion but can I draw peoples attention to this http://www.repairmyl...-pedal-discount it's money off a Defender security device and any money saved in this day and age has to be worth a go.

I think the one with the welded sides is better http://www.mudsport....?id_product=255

    post-25689-0-38419700-1317939073_thumb.jpg

Apparently it's possible to cut the brake pedal off to remove the one with open sides.

One of them stopped my Land Rover being stolen recently.

  12. It looks like quite a bit of work went into the A-frame with slimming of the chassis members, any chance of some more photos?

Have you left the half shafts and diff internals in or removed them to lose some weight?

Not only is it a cheap way to get a covered trailer, it is also far stronger than anything of a comparable size that you could buy.... and coil sprung! :)

Are you going to paint it to match the Range Rover?

  13. .....

How does a theft like this stand with the Insurance? Presumably they've said 'get lost'?

    Si

Would be very interested in that, it's not a simple I left the keys in the ignition. This is more a confidence trick/con than carelessness. Do house insurances pay out when people posing as water board etc con their way into your house and steal things?

  14. .....

All bushes are yellow polybush and were fitted by previous owner. I have had the car for around 4 years now I think.

    ....

    .....

I think a Super Pro kit is in order and just change everything. I'm going to hopefully borrow some arms so I can have the bushes pressed at my leisure rather than taking a day off work and cycling to the garage with them strapped to my back as my wife & her car would be at work.

And no I haven't checked the swivel pins yet...

Sounds promising. A full kit and some pressing is in order.

If you have already have a full set of polybushes fitted and are going to replace them all with SuperPro bushes do you need to do any pressing? I thought they were all 2 part bushes, forgive me if I am mistaken
