  1. Yes the alternator does output AC but the diode pack is there to rectify it to DC.
  2. I'm no expert but i'd say the V8 is the lightest of the lot.
  3. To be honest the thought of LPG over diesel does seem a far better alternative. What is this Ignition magic you speak of? Any performance or fuel economy increase? I like the idea of all in for £600. Where is the best place for the LPG kit?
  4. Just out of info the Vauxhall Calibra V6 models all have twin speed fans. Not sure on mountings though but i could measure one up as its only on the drive.
  5. Isn't it a lot of work changing a petrol model to diesel?
  6. Don't forget your Max Power sticker for an extra 10bhp
  7. If you have over packed the bearings the centifrugal force will force out the majority of the grease past the seals. However, if you seriously over packed the bearings you risk causing damage. Are the two greases compatible? Is it possible they may react with each other. As far as i remember Molybdenum is a fantastic conductor for magnetism. Just a bit of trivia for you. But i have used it in the past for rebuilding C.V. joints and it was fine.
  8. You could always buy a sport item and fit it in the rear of the truck out of harms way from off road damage.
  9. Remember the light comes on when there is a difference of voltage either side of it. One side is the battery and the other side is the alternator, when they are different the lamp lights up. The brightness of the lamp is determined by the difference in voltages. For example 3v in battery (nearly flat) and 13v alternator output this gives 13 - 3 = 10volts across lamp it will glow brightly. Or maybe in your case 12v in battery and 18v alternator output this gives 18 - 12 = 6volts across lamp glow moderatly. As your battery approaches 18volts the lamp will go dimmer until they are matched then with no potential difference it will go out. Hope this explains it well.
  10. It could be worse... It could have been written in text speak! That is a real pet hate of mine.
  11. http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/erol.html#752X0 Just make a selection
  12. What is the battery voltages when disconnected and when charging?
  13. It sounds like you guys need to meet http://www.powerflow.uk.com/about.html A few years back i had an exhaust off them top quality i must say. Also a friend of mine replaced all his hoses in his engine bay including turbo pipes with stainless pipe instead of hoses, it did look smart. If i rember corectly i would say expect a bill of £400. I used the dealer in Nottingham Big City Tyres
  14. I remain a sceptic. Lets wait for some results.
  15. Yes i have read some old posts but it's nice to get a fresh spin on things. Thanks for the info.
  16. What about V8 conversions? Are they a straight forward job to do?
  17. How much of a conversion is that to do? Is it DIY? Does it cost a lot?
  18. Is keeping the engine dry off road very difficult?
  19. I doubt there is any performance gain to be had but does it run better?
  20. Did it cost a lot to rebuild the top end? Is it expensive to do yourself?
  21. Thanks for the tales so far it is much appreciated. Is there any specific fault to these family of engines i should be aware of?
  22. Thanks for the info its much appreciated. I am not too concerned about the performance so much but i would like to know what is the performance like off-road? My last V8 would happily trundle over any terrain but i'm guessing this will be very similar to a series motor but with better suspension, am i right? You say you run on LPG is the fuel economy horrific? I will be doing a 200mile trip to bring it home i was hoping to use about £30 of petrol will i need more?
  23. Can someone tell me some info about these engines? I am looking at buying a Land Rover with one of these engines in it, i can't remember what they said. What is reliability, performance and longevity like? Is it cam-belt or cam-chain driven? How soon would it need replacing or does it not damage the engine if it snaps? Plus any other advice specific to a very early 90 petrol would be grateful. Many thanks,
