  1. It sounds like you have some good motors there. Thanks for the info it has been very helpful.
  2. Do you run a standard ECU or is yours chipped/mapped or replaced?
  3. Thank you for that very detailed answer it is much appreciated. What sort of cost is cylinder liner modification? Thanks,
  4. Thanks for the reply. What about the chassis? Is it a monocoque design or does it have a separate chassis? Are they available as a replacement like on the defender?
  5. I want to buy a Defender the mrs wants a P38 so i'm going to ignore the "LRO" horror tales for now and ask some simple questions from the best people in the know. The owners. Q1. What are the issues with the 4.6/4.0 V8 petrol engine suffering porous blocks caused by a cylinder liner problem? can someone explain it simple terms please? Q2. Does the 4wd setup use a Viscous coupling? If so what is the reliability like? I will be using 85% on road and 30% of that will be towing a trailer/caravan. Q3. Body Electronic Control Module doing random things i.e. unlocking the car? Is there a fix? Q4. Air suspension failure. Is best to just replace with coils when it fails or is it worth the expense? Q5. Is the diesel engine under powered for this car? Q6. What is the typical mpg for petrol/diesel? Any other problems i should look for if i buy one? All replies are recieved gratefully this is my first time venturing away from a utillity model for a long time, so is it a good move? Many thanks,
  6. Why don't you just a proper tool i'm sure it will come in handy over the years. I know mine has.
  7. You would still have losses in the system because as you try to take more load off the alternator you will drag the frequency down of the output voltage making it harder for the shaft to turn therefore requiring more engine bhp to turn the alternator. You don't get anything for free, especially where engine tunning is concerned. Have you thought about NOs? Nitrous Oxide would give you a boost when you want, as long as you don't slap 350bhp worth or NOs on a standard engine it shouldn't affect longevity.
  8. Not too bad then, at least it is repairable.
  9. I found this website i believe it may well help you. http://www.nhua.co.uk/conversion/perkins.htm
  10. Would the engine be severly damaged if it snapped?
  11. Doesn't the defender item fit? What about a Fuel burning heater? Surely a Freelander in a breakers yard might yield something? Or Erberspacher?
  12. i had a 2.5 NAD with the same symptons took the head off and found the pistons/rings were warped/out of shape. The head was spot on.
  13. I picked up a 2.25 about 2yrs ago on e-bay for £50 The bargains do come up so be patient and keep waiting. Buy yourself a moped and use that than fix the Land Rover properly. My personal opinion is standard is best, therefore fit any Land Rover engine in. Also fuel economy is not much different between petrol and diesel is it? At least with petrol you can add LPG.
  14. Also a good source of information on anything series related is the series 2 club. Here is a link for a how2 on the 200tdi. http://www.s2cforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=12550.0
  15. Is it a big to inspect/change the timing chain? How often should it be looked at?
  16. Or break inside the GATSO and run some CAT 5e up the side of the highway to your house, instant Ethernet to the Gestapo governmnet!!!!
  17. Yes it is. I do not agree with driving unsafely however due to the numerous amount that have been in put areas that are not accident black spots how can they be justified. I agree with your statement that if you are not speeding you won't get caught and anybody who does speed deserves to get caught. Unfortunatly i do not feel that speed cameras are being used as well as they could be (i.e. to prevent accidents) and they are now used more as a source of income.
  18. I too have witnessed a tyre full of a flammable liquid being set on fire around the GATSO, it did make me laugh, What is annoying though is that it's just another stealth tax to screw the individual over while the govenment awards itself a 20% pay increase.....
  19. Have you looked at Demon Tweeks? www.demon-tweeks.co.uk
  20. Shop around a bit i'm sure that there is more than 1 breaker in your neck of the woods.
  21. Can you not reach the cable any where? You only need a bit to grip with some pliers.
  22. It's never straight forward when you want to mod something!
