200tdi will bolt into an 88" using the standard series engine mounts. You need a defender Lt77 NOT a discovery one.
Ratios you need to work out as it also depends on tyre sizes.
I'm running 1.22 transfer box with 4.75 diffs and 33" tyres.

Defender heater works well and is an easy swap onto a series 3. Probably doesnt help much on a 2a though!

Ditch them and get wheels with the required offset. Spacers are dangerous IMHO.
Dont forget you can reverse the rims and get silly offset if you so desire! I'm running reversed 7x16 8 spokes and the tyres sit flush with the outside of defender spats on my series.

Early 90/110 pedal assmebly will fit. However you'll need to cut a chunk out of the steel re-inforcing on the inside of the bonnet to clear the top of the pedal box. Standard series bonnet will then shut. As the whole thing is thicker than the series one, it moves the master cylinder forward so you need to trim the inner wing to clear. If you're running defedner bonnet then it'll clear no probs.
Bear in mind that the footwells are a different shape on a series so it all sits in different pleaces than on a 90. The later large diameter servo will not fit as the bonnet wont shut - been there tried that!
90/110 and series masters are interchangeable, so you can put the 60/40 master onto the series servo etc.
I'm running an early 90/110 servo and pedal box, but with the standard series master cylinder, with disks all round.

Advice would be as follows:-
1. Remove bonnet
2. Remove NA diesel
3. Throw NA diesel away
4. Fit 200Tdi
5. Refit bonnet.
Not worth pissing about mate now 200Tdi's are so cheap!

Stick an lt77 and lt230 in it and be done with it.
I find a 200tdi, on a defender LT77 with Disco 1.22:1 transfer box, with 4.75:1 R&P's on 33" tyres to be about right.

Drove my first ever vehicle on Inch Beach aged 12, guess what it was a 109!

Apparrently its illegal now! oooooooops!!!
Thats said the Guarda were there as we drove onto the bech and didnt bat an eyelid! They seem alot more laid back than our plod do!

I'll just add to this to say that Kew is a top bloke, and he did us all proud when we went over there last year in our trucks! He is a great host!
The scenery over there is fantastic, and the people friendly. The roads are terrible however! You'll be glad you're in a landrover!
Yes the ferry is expensive, and seems to go a odd times, but the diesel is cheap! On the subject of diesel we found that petrol stations in some areas could be well spread out, so make sure you keep your tank topped up!
We went Pembrooke-Rosslaire, and then went cross country all the way down to Kilarney, and did the ring of Kerry etc. Driving on the beach at Inch was also one of the highlights!

I always do it by separating the transfer box off first and dropping it down. No need to remove the seat box then.
Then remove the main gearbox and drop that down. It is do-able with a standard series welded in crossmember. I've a vague feeling the main gearbox needs to come up and out (certainly an LT77 does, but I've been running the LT77 for so long now I cant remeber about the series box.
In this way i can do a gearbox swap on my own and without an engine crane as the boxes are manageable on your own when separated.

I remember those - chop 'em off!
Hahahahahahahahahahaha i was thinking that!!!! Do away with them and fit a disk........

Only replace whats worn IMHO and then only with standard replacements.
If it aint worn out dont replace it. You'll save a heap of money that way.
Decarbon shocks are totally unsuitable for a series. If you're on stock leaves then run stock shocks. If you're on parrotsbollox than pro-comps.
Dont bother with HD steerin rods. They're well protected on a series and in all the years I've had my truck (I've done winch challenges with it etc) I've only ever bent one! I simply keep a spare one zip tied to the rool cage.
Download the manual for free off the net.
Dont bother with prop gaitors as they just fill up with mud.
Do you really need new drums all round???? Etc etc etc. Like I said - only replace what needs to be replaced!

Frankly even taxed and moted and all up and together you'll be lucky to get £1000 for it!
Unless its something really special people just dont want series these days! Especially now 90's have got so cheap!
Somethig thats sorned, with no mot and needing a pile of work is only worth a few hundred these days. You wont get alot from trying to break it either these days cos once again - nobody wants series bits!

IIRC the spline length of the output shaft of a ZF is different between BW and LT230 transfer boxes. The BW version has shorter splines and won't mate to an LT230.
No - they are interchangeable.
However the linkages are different, and the propshafts will also be different lengths. Wouldnt be surprised if the mounting brackets were different too!
Surely its easier just to change the viscous for one which works??
Jon

Again - dont know of anyone running them.
Mate of mine had a set of the older model ones on a trialler, and found that they werent up to the job really, and also found that when they went wrong spare parts availability was non existant "oh we dont make them anymore......"
Jon

So when are the volvos going on the freelander then John???
-
Yup - I can agree - I fitted them to mind when i first fitted the shocks, but all that happened was they filled up with mud which then blocked the ickle drain holes in them so they were always full of wet soggy mud with casued the chrome to rust up in no time at all!

I have allmakes ones that i bought from either paddocks or craddocks years ago (cant remember which). Overall I'm very happy with them.
I've also heard good things said about the rocky mountain ones.
However I've not heard a good thing said for the chris perfect ones so........
You also need to change the shocks to pro-comps really as the stock ones arent up to it!
Jon
-
Absolutely not. Throw them away!!
Bear in mind that if you keep proof of purchase etc pro-comps come with a lifetime gaurantee.
Only one I've ever killed was cos I bent the leaf and wrapped the shock around the axle casing!
However I do note that they do seem to rust very quickly!

Must be my Yorkshire upbringing, I cannot see £37 in something you could make in 10 mins.
Well I've always broken the beads just by standing the hi-lift on the sidewall of the tyre without difficulty so dont really see the need for it!

Nige and I went and braved the weather. Seemed alot better organised the old sod.
Not as many buyers or sellers as previously but still good. I expect the weather put alot of people off, plus it wasnt that well advertised!
Came away with some G cramps, a large ring spanner and a rather nice Sealey pillar drill. Nothing for the landrover however! Was after some wheelarches but everything was either knackered or silly money.........ah well!

You tell them how much its worth, and send them photos and a spec sheet. If they agree to it they'll write to you and tell you so. It then means that if the vehicle is a total loss there should be no argueing about how much its worth!
Jon
-
Having done this it also doesnt hurt to run a 10mm drill through the bolt holes in the series bellhousing as the holes in it are 3/8" IIRC. It will go on but it makes fitting an absolute piggy if you dont!
Jon
-
Came were loose every time I checked them until I gave up with the damn things and ground the spring mounts. Since then they've never come loose.

NATO green and a 6 " brush. You can use a roller if the panels arent too dented (rollers dont reach the bottoms of dents)
Just slap it on. I can repaint my whole truck in 20 minutes!
