I took mine right off and re-tapped the hoels aswell.

A defender winch bumper will not fit a series chassis without chopping the mountings about. There are quite different!

Wheels and tyres will fit.
Not much else will swap over without lots of cutting about. Wheelbases are NOT the same. LWB series is 109" - 110 is 110". However the roof is actually a different shape in the area around the windscreen so causes all sorts of fun and games, but you'll probably be near enough to fit without too much hassle.
Winch will not fit. Not only will the winch bumper not fit the series without serious surgery, I assume it is PTO driven, so the PTO will not fit.
Theres lots that can be made to fit, however theres lots of agro in making things fit!

I rebuilt mine recently. IMHO if the centre diff gears are worn find a better transfer box. The first one I stripped had very worn centre diff gears so I scrapped it and found a better one.
I replaced all bearings, and the input gear as the splines were worn, but otherwise simply picked the best bits of the two boxes I had and re-assembled.
I found I had to completely re-shim mine. I also had to fiddle with the thrust washers in the centre diff to get the correct pre-load.

Not tried them personally, but I seem to recall seeing prices quoted somewhere that showed that once you'd taken carriage into account they actually worked out more expensive than BOC.
Bear in mind also these are smaller bottles filled to lower pressure than the BOC ones.

On mine the crankshaft end float was found to be excessive after the auto flex plate broke.
You obviously need to take the centre main cap off the change the thrust washers and so whilst I was in there a took a few of the other caps off too just to have a looksee. We took the engine out to sort it out as I changed all the oil seals on it at the same time as it was leaking oil from every oriface.
In short we changed the thrusts to sort the end float out but otherwise left the bottom end alone.

Thats what usually kills them.
Also check the condition of the splines on the inside of the input gear and change that too if necessary.

2 leaf fronts 3 leaf rears.
I wouldnt fit anything else - I've been on parabolics for years with 1 tonne shackles. IMHO standard springs are an outdated solution.
Carries the loads fine you just have to bear in mind that the factory load weights for these vehicles are not actually that great and dont overload it!
Just go with the PRo comp Es3000's that are listed for series vehicles as they're already 2" overlength.
Rear propshaft and brake lines will be fine.
Front axle you either need correctlion wedges, or to simply grind the spring pads on the axle tube to correct the castor angle. You'll need longer brake hoses, and to sor tthe front prop out. You'll also need to scallop the bellhousing crossmember for propshaft clearance. I used a 4 speed rangie front prop and shortened it to suit. The standard series one will be too short.

I've been here relatively recently.........
If you have a factory 300 auto fitting a V8 autobox into it will become major agro as the rear housing is 2" longer on the 300 autobox so the whole box is therefore 2" longer and none of the chassis mounts, linkages propshafts etc will fit.
However if you're looking to do a conversion where you'd have to sort all that lot out anyway then it is a little easier. Either transfer box will fit to either autobox - there is no problem there. You will need to swap the bellhousing and torque converter over at the very least, and you'll also have to use a 300tdi kickdown cable as the V8 one is too short. Be aware that changing a kick down cable requires removal of the vavle chest for the autobox. Do not attempt it unless you are sure you know what you are doing!
That will allow it all to fit into the car, however the shift points etc will be wrong as the autobox will be set up for a v8. Quite how wrong they'll be I'm not sure about.
As mine is a factory 300 auto i ended up getting my box rebuilt by ashcrofts and I have to say it has absolutely transformed the vehicle. It drives so much more smoothly and you can now barely feel it change gear. They well deserve their reputation IMHO.

They look alright - when i looked at the ones in my 195k rangie they were actually much better than those. In fact I put them back in again as they really didnt warrant changing.
Only enough the ones in the 200 in my series were in far far worse condition (I changed them) and it had done a lot less miles.
Guess it shows what proper servicing does as my rangie has a FSH even up to nearly 200k miles!

Screw a couple of self tappers into the seal and use them to pull it out with.
Mainshaft splines ok then?

What usually happens is the input gear sticks on the mainshaft. Lots of firm jiggling and maybe even get in there with a pry bar to get it moving. Once you've got it moving off the dowels its fairly easy.
Dont forget to check the condition of the mainshaft splines aswell cos I'll bet they've had it too!

Er.........I think what you're looking at is the anti roll bar as fitted to those as standard. Theres no anti-wrap bar in those photos.
They're basically there to reduce body roll and improve on road cornering.
They provide no useful benefit off road and all they really do is serve to reduce axle travel.
They're fitted to many later discos/rangies as standard.

As someone else said - check the propshaft isnt holding the axle back. You may well find you'll need a different front propshaft after fitting parabolics (I did!)

Strip the zenith. Put a bit of P400 wet and dry paper onto a sheet of glass (perfectly flat surface) and using a little light oil lap both parts of the carb flat. When you start doing it you'll be amazed just how far out they are. Rebuid with a new gasket and new O ring and you'll probably sort it out. I did one for a mate recently and was amazed at how far out of flat it really was!

If its already on coils you can take the lot off. It'll cause no problems.
If you lose the air reservoir and the compressor/valve block from under the sills it ought to give you the room you need for the LPG kit.

Great pics guys!
I managed to get stuck in the middle of the lake before the event even started and spent the rest of the day with wet feet!
I lost count of how many times I got stuck...........but it was lots........I even managed to do it in front of everyone and got the tiddle taken out of me for it to boot!
