  1. nice picture mate ,got a few similar myself recently in the snow and finally by the end of the night we had the enemy surrounded
  2. as long as the crown wheels are the same ratio yes
  3. i still prefer the kam locker though,my front arb has also started acting up as the compressor is kicking in about every 5 seconds, ive checked all the pipework/fittings from the compressor to the diff and alls fine so im presumeing it will be the seals =front diff out,at least the kam its just the cover off lol,oh the joys of offroading and fancy traction aids
  4. thanks for the help fella's,ive definatly been putting to much oil in for a start,i presumed you fill to the fill plug which due to the extra volume with the modified pan takes about 3L so this may be where my problem is,i will do the mods to the piston also and see how it goes, thanks again fella's
  5. i had a bit of trouble with my kam locker last night, whilst winching up an embankment with both lockers and centre diff engaged my mate pointed out to me that the rear was working as an open diff and wasnt locked, the light has been a bit sporadic lately too,i will be stripping it down later today or tomorrow and following the pointers in this thread, was just wondering if someone could explain about/how to do the mod to the solenoid piston regarding drilling, also ive allways filled the diff untill it just reaches the fill plug so im presuming im putting far to much oil in if 2L is whats recomended, thanks in advance
  6. think i agree with you to be honest,i started thinking it as i was typing, would love to see the reaction though should someone accidently set it off in the middle of tesco's car park
  7. i like that idea lol, to be honest youve got me thinking, how many times have we been laid in bed and heard a car alarm go off and thought to ourselfs "for god sake i wish that would shut up,ive got to get up for work in the morning!" pulled the pillow over our head and gone to sleep? i know someones allready mentioned on here that no one takes any notice of car alarms anymore and to be fair people dont. but imagine if you heard someone screaming for help,i would imagine everyone on the street would be up to there windows to see what was happening or out there doors no matter how many times you heard it,its human nature, i found this vid and i know its meant as a joke but maybe it does have a good point? or maybe it could result in the "little boy who cried wolf" scenario if a genuine person really did need help?
  8. mines a 93 k defender (200tdi) theres no ecu on it,this guy supplied and fitted mine(cat 1 alarm/immobilisor with certificate) may be worth getting in touch and haveing a chat,he's very helpfull and came to my house to fit it DSB communications tel: 0113 2822006 mob 07790579814 email dsbcommunications@msn.comi i use the fob to activate the alarm but i would have to lock the doors manually, but i dont bother cos as soon as they open the door/pop a window out the alarm goes of,even if they manage to cut the power supply theres a back up battery in the siren which automatically activates and then they've got to get past the immobilisor
  9. i agree with you there simon and i think the best way is to prevent them getting near the veichal in the first place if possible, meaning where you park it,ive got mine on a gravel drive behind 6ft fencing with a security light set so you only have to open the gate or stick your head over the fence to set it off which in turn starts the dogs next door off barking,i know this isnt possible for everyone i just mean putting measures in place to stop thiefs seeing or getting near the truck in the first place is a big deterante, ive also had a cat 1 alarm with tilt sensors fitted should i need to park it somewhere (shops ect)and fitted it all inside the cab and out of site so theres no way they can get in without setting it off,its out of the elements being an offroader and should they try winching/lifting onto a trailer ect hopefully due to the tilt sensors the alarm will trigger, also being thatcham approved its also reduced my insurance which after the claim from the last one is a big help
  10. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c238b1591 these ones are a bit pricey but combined with better locks at least your giving the thief less options of entry http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-window-guards-TDi-TD5-TDCi-security-grills-Defender-Discovery-/220933948145?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item3370b082f1
  11. this is exactly how my last defender was stolen,i found the glass in one piece on the grass verge the next morning, thw current defender i have was a van back when i first bought it so i fitted some window cages with button head bolts when i bought it,i then just drilled the heads slighty so an allan key wouldnt fit and could only be removed with a grinder
  12. i'll lube and check the uj's after work tomorrow but theyve only been fitted around a month and half, steering damper could be suspect too actually as thinking about it thats been on a while now,i'll let you know what i find thanks
  13. i replaced the steering column uj's back in november as they were shot, the old worn uj's resulted in the steering being stiff both ways, like i say thats what im finding puzzling as i would have thought any part of the steering mech worn/perished would result in the steering being stiff both ways and not just one
  14. ive found there isnt an answer to that untill you try, sometimes they come off easy with a bar sometimes there a pain in the a**e,if youve got access to a puller it wont hurt to have it handy
  15. forgot to add its had a 300tdi discovery front axle fitted with the teflon coated swivel balls, and arb locker
  16. been out in the landrover this morning (93k 90) and the steering feels stiff when turning left, turning right its fine which has thrown me out a bit,i will get under and go through the old process of elimination once the ground has cleared of snow/slush,its not my daily drive so im in no rush but was just wondering if anyoe had any ideas in the meantime as its baffled me a bit so far ive checked the belt, tyre pressure and had a quick look at the track rod ends and all appear ok but i havent had anyone wobbling the steering wheel while i look yet, like i say its just with it only being stiff turning 1 way thats baffled me thanks in advance
  17. agreed, ive broke my fair share of diffs in my time and everyones been on a hill, mainly the rear but ive only broke 1 front diff and funny enough that was trying to reverse out of a bombhole
  18. procomp are some of the cheapest out there, the shafts rust quickly and there prone to leaking but are cheap enough to replace, they not great on the road either, terrafirma arent that much dearer but are a lot better than procomp,or pay the extra and buy some koni,de carden or old man emu etc which will give a lot better ride and last a hell of a lot longer than both
  19. as above over time that stuff definatly holds water,i wouldnt use it personally
  20. there normal threads on mine, anti c/w to undo,c/w to tighten
  21. i'll 3rd that, even IF it did take up any slack (and i cant see how it would) it would only unwind again the first corner you go round
  22. yes that will be it,the football ground is behind the new tesco on the old dema glass site i think that is usually the case but the police were giving out the packs for free, you have to fill out a form so the specific "DNA" of that pack is registered to you, then they advise you what area on your vehicle to put it,in this instance there is no fee's
  23. how about this, depending what hook you use im sure one would fit through http://www.ebay.co.u...=item335ebdf6d4 not sure about mounting options though or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triangle-Hawse-Rope-Fairlead-Pipe-A4-316-180mm-X-150mm-/320617052817?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_BoatEquipment_Accessories_SM&hash=item4aa643fa91
  24. sorry for the late heads up but i didnt find out about it untill around 10 this morning from a mate,it is good that the police are trying to address the problem of l/r thefts, and hopefully other police forces will start doing something along the same lines
