  1. I would say Mill Services 1" lifters but he ain't making them at the moment...

I was 9 at the time. Fortunately our main home was out on the farm and had not been touched - the Argies never got that far out apart from when they came to collect us for "talkies" with Dad. The house in Stanley was totally wrecked, sh*t smeared up the walls, the fence torn down and used for firewood, everything smashed up and basically when we got it back we took everything absorbent out and burned it because it wasn't fit for anything else. You could not imagine human beings making (or indeed living in) such an unsanitary mess... The issue now is not so much what happened back then as the fact that things really haven't changed - those who say that England and Germany were getting along fine by the 1960s fail to notice that Germany wasn't still trying to invade England in the 1960s - we are still in that situation, more or less, with a flight blockade on any new commercial flights coming in, and economic measures being taken against fishing and oil companies that try to work here. It ought to be a major United Nations scandal, but nobody really cares much at that level. Proves what a waste of space the UN is, IMHO.
  3. Should do as long as the new vehicle doesn't have aircon - the bumper fitting is the same on all vehicles just the a/c grille sticks out further
  4. The bumph says "30% quieter than a Td5" I think... I'm sure it would be quieter than my 300 anyway

Yep, we were, there for about 2 weeks and then rounded up at gunpoint and "removed" as they didn't like Dad much (the feeling was mutual!)
  6. Spider controls crank and fuel/ign so it depends which circuit goes pop
  7. Interesting First impressions: far too much plumbing in the engine bay and whoever put that ECU there should be shot (its the first underbonnet pic I have seen and you know what I do for a living!) New doors came in with 05 I think, my 04 90 doesn't have them but the new ones here have had for a while - they don't stop any more water though Time is running out to get myself a nice 300Tdi 110 before the last ones disappear here still no takers for the 90 though Can't believe that on a dealer demo car they forget to fill up the holes in the corner of the doors (or indeed that the problem STILL hasn't been fixed) What is the throttle response like - does it do what the pedal says (like most cars) or does it do what the dark forces of Evil lurking under the seat feel like doing which may or may not conform with the driver's requirements at that point in time (like a Td5)?
  8. A real Wolf rear axle has welded on gussets from the axle tube down to the bottom of the diff pan so it looks like a very shallow angle "V" if you look along the underneath of the vehicle, not like a normal diff just hanging down in one place. Very strong build for the MOD, apart from the diff which is the standard "new improved" four pin rear made by Cheese Transmissions Inc.
  9. Welcome Check out The Definitive Alarm Spider Post in our Tech Archive For some time when I was chasing the fault (in the old days before everybody knew about it) I used a jump lead from the battery positive to the coil as a get me home repair. I had no problems and all I found was that it wouldn't go off when you switched the ignition off, it would run on for a few seconds till the fuel pressure died away, the ECU was getting power back through the circuit in the wrong direction I think. But if you have an ignition switched feed I guess it will be fine, as long as the ignition switch can take it but I expect it can. Personally I would fix it properly as per the instructions in the above linked post, it isn't a lot of hassle really, just a bit fiddly, all you basically need is a handful of screwdrivers and a steady hand on a soldering iron
  10. I've heard of the trumpets coming loose too, though I have not seen it but then there aren't many V8s here. Not sure what the fix is though... fill 'er up with concrete that should stop the little beggars
  11. OK ta. Just wondered as I emailed again last week and it was bounced back with the mailbox being full. Will try again later.
  12. Bad earth or a bad positive battery connection would be my guess - maybe into the main underbonnet fuse box.
  13. Sorry to hear that. Does the "not making" apply to other things as well as sill bars? Spring lifters in particular - we have some outstanding orders at work.
  14. I have a boat trailer so something that works in salt water would be good too thanks for the input
  15. I have seen some with a resonance in the exhaust under load which could probably be mistaken for a gearbox rumble - loose baffle in the exhaust I think.
  16. There was a recall on Td5 flywheels, maybe it wasn't changed in the recall? They had a habit of going bang, allegedly, though I have never seen a banged one, only a cracked one.
  17. I know of people here who have done it on worn shafts and seem to be OK though admittedly not in a competition environment or anything. I think the drive members are cast so that may be the weakness - I seem to remember welding cast can make it brittle?
  18. I guess it all works on much the same theory (spray on zinc coating which becomes sacrificial) so it is probably a matter or cost? or is any one much better than the others? Another question: has anybody tried galvanising bolts with this stuff? My 90 is suffering from the usual "brown rear end syndrome" that you get with Land Rovers after a couple of years and my options are new std bolts, stainless ones (which by some accounts then eat the alloy panels instead ... not really progress!) or trying to paint/galvanise the old ones. Ta everybody
  19. All old 90s and Discovery Tdis were fixed flange but the later (probably post 02 though not sure) 90s like mine have a separate flange. Since it is ALWAYS the splines that go on 110 rear axles I have no idea why they ruined a perfectly good solid shaft by introducing a new weakness. I changed mine back to a set of Bearmach solid ones a couple of years ago. Unless you are going to get HD ones like Ashcrofts etc I would stick with the solid ones.
  20. http://www.zinga-uk.com/zinga_main.html Has anybody tried this? any good or snake oil?
  21. Seem to remember Southdown said they didn't do a Td5 one when I wanted one a year or two back... If I was keeping my 90 I would get one of those. Do they do a similar thing for a 110?
  22. what age? S2 has a lot more room than a 200/300Tdi and I think a D3 has more again. I think 4 "normal" dogs would be a squeeze - ok if they were small ones.
