  1. Yes, wings are a consumable on my car . I suppose the prison thing is a bit harsh, if your car is legal then it shouldnt be such a worry. I do a good check of the car before I set of normally. Yes, in my case its a bit of needs must situation, I cant really justify having a large towing vehicle and trailer for 2 events a year. Daan
  2. That all may be the case, but for me and some others, I have to drive 500 miles back on the road with the comp truck, and will drive accordingly. It is harder to compete on a drive to survive basis, while the rest is treating the event like a demolition darby. I have been criticised for this, but I think the event should involve the roadmiles bit just to stop the demo darby element of it; Also, the rules of the event did cater for this, and than it appears all those rules have gone out of the window overnight. Constructive critisism from my side, to what is otherwise a great event and we enjoyed it very much. Daan
  3. Especially on a hardtop, there is a massive suction on the flat back of the hardtop, and the fumes look for anyway to get in. My sealing isnt great, but about average like most landys. I dont think your split rr door is doing you much favours in that respect. I thought I mention it to you before you spend your hard earned. I settled for this: The exit is actually the swaged end of a TDI pipe, welded straight on a def 90 rr silencer which sits behind th rr wheel. The finisher is a bit of 18SWG stainless steel with a 3" (i think) swage and then cut out round and some rivetholes added. All home grown, as usual. daan
  4. I used to have mine through the hole in the crossmember, but decided against it later, because of exhaustfumes getting sucked in the cab trough the rr door while driving on motorwayspeeds. I always used to feel very sick after a long trip on the road. Daan
  5. no offense alan, That section was a tough one. anyway what about the trailers?.... Daan
  6. Yeah right, We moved trees to make it easier for you! On the subject of cheating, I saw a load of trailers parked in the woods, were the organizers clearly state you have to drive your car from the hotel. Daan
  7. Justus, clear one thing up for me: The number stamped in the chassis, is that correct to the registration form, but the registration form is from a 109 or is the chassis number not right to the registration form? Either way, you want to stay clear from the SVA, and even a VIC wouldnt clear up the problem. Any joy with old owner? Daan
  8. I recently fitted a 24 spline diffcentre to a diff house that was 10 spline originally. its a straight fit, as long as you havent got the metric/imperial difference, in which case you need a set of spacers. daan
  9. We had a pretty good event, but I do have a complex about tree stumps! We also contested stage 11, and got help from chris and his team to get out. chris' co driver is a monkey! Thanks for helping us guys, the section was actually made easyer after we passed through, we had moved some trees by quite a bit. Great event. Daan
  10. Thanks Ralph and tony, just the ticket. Appreciate bogmonsters comment, but one day it might come in usefull although a drivinglicense alowing me to do it would help! Daan
  11. Hallo, as the title says, I need to know the max allowed towing weight of a defender 90 300 tdi. this has to be generated from a landrover publication. cheers, Daan
  12. To get rising rate is pretty simple: were the shock has a 90 degree angle with the link, your ratio is biggest. al you do to work out the lower ratios is measuring from the centre of the shock to the link pivot point. I have seen this setup on a freelander racer on rangy chassis. He had a bar running through the coilspring and some triangular link to connect the shock to the chassis. I dont think its the way forward, because the extra complication, weight and complexity are massive for what gain? But by all means show us the result when youre done... To be honest I dont think rising rate is the way forward myself, unless its done to carry a lot of weight. But suspension is very personal and what works for one person might not work for the other. mot

Very slim. I do have a question though: Were is this MOT station? Daan
  14. This is a variety of spelling of my name that I have not seen before! I have my t-shirt already thank you. Daan Schreuders
  15. I got mine and it looks pretty good. I think the large HOFS logo at the back will wear off over time, but I suppose we will just have to buy another one next year.. Daan
  16. I thought it was good, met loads of people, saw mouse and the belgium stand was interesting with many discussions about preparation. More importantly, they had beer. Daan
  17. 12.9s, schnorrs and do them up FT have solved all my problems. Daan
  18. The worst I have seen is trying to feed other competitors more beer in order to create a bigger hangover and less performance the day after.....didnt work though! Daan
  19. Nick, I see with both setups, you have built up some sort of tower that hit the bumpstop on compression, presumably to limit uptravel. Is there any specific reason for this? daan

    diff pan

The gigglepin pan now fitted: and the reason of my question: The cover fits over the normal diffpan, but I decided to cut this off and weld it straight to the case. This saves about 2mm in clearance and ads lightness but it is not strictly neccesarry. the clearance is about 10mm on a LHD in this setup. Very happy with the endresult. Daan
  21. This is a different type of carnet, which is needed for overland trips. I did not need this to ship a vehicle to Malaysia. I will check tonight, but my carnet was about £150, rather than thousands it usualy costs. Exactly what is the plan Adrian, or is it classified info? Daan
  22. P&O nedlloyd is a good place to start. Are you sending the car permanently or for an event? In the last case you will need a carnet, which you can get from a Chamber of commerce. Daan
  23. Wonder were you got that idea?
  24. If I had a choice to locate the dampers, I would say that on top of the axle, like landrover did is best. The axle tramp may be a reason not to, but the forces on the bushes trying to counteract the damper forces are pretty big. To put it in perspective, in a dynamic situation, driving fast over potholes, the peak forces on the damper are much greater than on the springs. Landrover understood this on the first rangerovers, where the rear dampers were asymetrical, one pointing forward, one pointing backwards to counter act the forces. I went for the shocks on top of the axle on every corner, and I like the setup very much. daan
