  1. I made my front fairlead out of 16 (I think) dia stainless bar, heated to go around a welded jig. Only mistake was that I made the jig out of tube rather than solid bar, which then distorted under the heat. The rear fairlead I bent freestyle to around 50 mm CLR so it can sit at around 45 degrees and not compromise on departure angle.

  2. Silverstones might be easyer, but measure 33.5".

    Or these:

    Measure around 34" I think.

I reckon with all those rocks, something like a Maxis Creepy crawler or a mickey thompson baja claw might work better.

A Maxxis trepador seems to be the tyre of choice, but rather spendy.

I also remember you wondering what a winch is. That might be worth finding out as well. :P

  3. I asked tyres direct to measure a 235/85 and they say 33". Plenty on the internet saying the 35 10.5 is actually over 36".

I measured again last night, I can't fit bigger than 35"

A simex 35 10.5 is pretty much bang on 35" (or at least mine are). Most tyres measure smaller, exept fedimas, which are about 36".

So are you doing KOV next year?

  4. Has anyone used the Gwyn lewis fairlead with rollers for the sidepulls? He is no longer showing it on his website, but that looked like a good idea to me. I still think a roller is much better than a standard fairlead, as there is no friction. I cant package it without compromising the aproach angle, but if I had the choice it would be a roller every time.

  5. Daan, why not just make up a new crossover pipe that only needs a short straight pipe at the airbox end.

    nice, simple and uncluttered.

I seriously doubt you'd need anything more flexible.

Hmm, considered it, but to do something nice, it would involve bending a 3" ali tube and welding the sump vent to it, Both of which I currently dont have the technology.

Hopefully these will help, The O/D is a tad over 3 inches, I didn't have a screwdriver to hand but can pull it off and get you an I/D tomorrow if required.

Yes, that will do. I reckon 2 of these are going to be the winner.

  6. Hi Luke, dont fancy the one off route, it is spendy for something that is a very simple problem, plus I like a solution that is easy to replace. Standard landy bits tick those boxes very well. I just need to know which landy hose are 3" Id. Ros, dont fancy the scrappy too much, but i might go to my local one just to identify parts.

  7. Bringing this one from the death again, I still use my crapy bit of corugated, and it is time for a solution. Any of the corugated mentioned above is pretty much the same problem, so I thought to have a look in the Landrove parts bin.

    First we have this one:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RANGE-ROVER-CLASSIC-3-5V8-EFI-AIR-CLEANER-HOSE-/370508061084?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item564400599c

Can anyone confirm this is 3"? a length would also be good, but it looks 2 off these would work with a bit of aly tube in the middle.

In any case, is the rangerover v8 intake channel generally 3"? in that case, there are a few more options from the V8 corner partsbin if it is.

    This was another idea:

    http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/1041/517903-AIR-CLEANER-HOSE-PETROL.html?search=air

The good old 2.25 petrol intake hose. I think it was 3", but dont know a length. Can anyone confirm diameter and length? Also, i know on end is round, the other oval. I dont know if a new one starts round, and you have to form it oval, or whether they come oval as new.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

  8. I think the main reason for using Bowrope is price: 100 ft of 11 mm bowrope is £189, 100 ft of 11 mm Plasma is £229. That for most people settles it quite easily, without looking at the full picture.

I am a Plasma user, did RFC on 1 new 9.5 mm Plasma rope, and later Ladoga on 1 new 11 mm plasma rope. Both were a whole lot more than I could hope for, given the amount of abuse it gets. I will therefore continue to use Plasma, also bearing in mind that breaking a rope can write of your car, not to mention loss of life.

As has been mentioned, Bowrope users almost always go for a thicker rope than Plasma users.

Feel free to disagree, after all, thats what a forum is for!

  9. Ben I'm going to look on the dark side here. Should the gauge shew no oil pressure.

Drop the oil and then the sump.

Is the strainer full of krap ?

Has the strainer fallen off the block.

Any krap in the oil. The oil in mine was very clean.

If no to those then front of engine off to check the oil pump. My pump had no lugs left at all where the gear runs on the crank nose.

At what mileage is this likely to happen?

  10. item 2 cable on yhat page shows a one piece cable when searched for. http://www.lrseries....=prc6021&page=1

    prc6021/prc6022/prc6023 all are 1 piece

From the same company there is this:

    http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/9895/2927/1/PRC5663-SPEEDO-CABLE-LOWER-RHS.html?limit=0

    and this:

    http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/9887/2923/7/PRC5567-SPEEDO-CABLE-UPPER.html?sort=za

I am pretty sure that I used these on my series landy as well, with the 3 holed clampplate from the series cable so I could fit a tripcounter.

  11. I dont think any series speedo head will work with the LT (from memory), or at least show a speed relating anything near the speed you are actually doing. It depends of the ratio of the worm in the speedo drive, how does the series and Lt compare, and tyre size and diff ratios. It is a bit long winded but you could work out a combo that works. I just went with the defender speedo and that works, using 4.75 diffs and 35" tyres. You than also have 3 different ratios of the LT worm that you can play with should it need altering.
