  1. Yes, thats the bit that is hard to achieve, even if you do have the right tools. You need 2 hands to torque it up while you nip up the nut with your other 2 hands. I do this bit on feel to be honest. What I find an issue is that the this setup slips over time, resulting in a loose belt. The torque specified in the manual is way too low for this to work in my opinion. But I am sure a specialist will come along and tell me different!

  2. Have you compared it with the earlyer double tooth count version? It could be different. Not sure if the undrilled gear is still available new, but if it is, you could use it and smoke a hole in that? Also, it is worth checking what spline the underdrive is using in this area, that will get a lot of stick as well.

As mentioned, it is a bit pointless comparing different splines from different boxes, as material choice and heat treatment can make a huge difference. If anything, I say just run it and carry a spare gear.

  3. Chaps, my parents are currently driving between Antwerp and holland while losing around 1 liter of water per 700 mile and a lot of pressure in the cooling system. Apart from filling up and try to add some anti leak stuff, there isn't much else i could suggest at te moment.

Does anyone have experience with these engines throwing gaskets? I am pleased to say my father has now gone away from landrover dealers, and it will be a local garage fixing it, so any comments are welcome.

  4. I dont have a heater in my series for weight reasons, plus the original s3 heater is useless. Last winter, I had an electric seatcover heater, which plugs into the cigarettelighter, and it is absolutely mint! I have to unplug it halfway through my commute, or My bum overheats!

The problem of the front window icing up was solved by fitting a little electric fanheater, bought for a tenner on ebay, which also plugs into a cigarettelighter.

I dont have to de-ice, because I always park it in the garage, so it is a quick getaway in the morning too.

Last winter, the driving experience in my series 3 landy was fantastic as such.

  5. We can rant about them, but fact is, they create some kind of image in the glossy mags (and are big mates with LRO, hence their cars always show in their fotoshoots) and people buy it. It is a pointless rant, because people on this forum dont buy from them.

The one in fridges piccy impresses certain people that probably have a rangerover sport or hummer as a daily driver and dont think twice of spending 30 k.

I dont feel any envy on nene (unlike some!), they have a busines model that works and are probably doing very well out of it. Good for them, it didn't come falling from the sky did it?

I dont think myself he is dodgy, the V5 was a bit of an off, but in general I think his wares are pretty sound.

I have seen much worse myself, and I personally dont accuse people on a forum like this unless he had one over on me, in which case I made sure he will get burned down to his shoelaces.

  6. I meant that, it is on the rr axle in the diff; modern equivalent of free wheel hubs. Still, I need a PTO, or I wont buy it.

500 kg would be a very big saving from where we are now and well worth having.

I have noticed they went back to recessed doorhandles, which is a very good idea if you start bashing trees. All we need now is sliding windows.

  7. We all seem to be focusing on engine performance, but the most important thing will be weight: if we know how much weight does it need to move we can say something about how well it goes with these size engines.

It has freewheeling hubs though, so probs no LT230 transfer box. Is there a facility for a PTO?

  8. It should fit to a disco 1 transferbox, thats what I run for my PTO. There is plenty of space past a 300 tdi exhaust, but the ears that come of the mounts to fit to the gearbox might be in the way. I did away with these because I have an LT77S box. the rest can be solved with a bit of fabwork.

Post a piccy when youre done.

  9. Which steering box is that using? if they use m10 bolts, it would need ideally 15 mm plate to get enough thread engagement for me to feel comfortable with the loads it is seeing. And welding 15 mm plate to 2 mm plate is not good in my very humble opinion.
