  1. Hi - I've a Milemarker with ZF74 in place of the PAS pump on a V8 auto Defender with A/C. The install includes a pressure relief valve to prevent damage to the PAS box. No problems - easy as you like - and the most important thing for me is that it is a common PAS pump and the install is exactly the same as the original pump so any old fool (including myself) can fix it. Install is as simple as removing the old one, swapping the pulley over and plumbing in the ZF. The bumper is a Scrapiron 'extreme'. Has the right look - but most importantly it's strong enough. I wouldn't recommend them though. Try First Four off road perhaps? Speed-wise its fine for me. Any faster under load would be worrying I think. Tip: Just keep the steering wheel in the straight ahead position when winching. I'll do a couple of pics when its next out of the garage if you're interested.
  2. The switchbacks on the Gatesgarth mean that 110's need to take a shunt which churns up the surface. We're up there driving it in September.
  3. Does it have to be within the past 10 years? - I've just dug out some photos from Jan 1992.
  4. Depends how old the car is. Late 80's ones had: Colour coded grille, headlight surrounds and wheelarch eyebrows as mentioned. Boge self-levelling strut on the back axle, softer springs and rear anti-roll bar. Flip-up side steps. Fancy graphics running down the sides . Didn't CSWs disappear from about 1990 - 1994? Then I think the later ones had same colour roof, alloys. It gets a bit hazy then...
  5. Defenders and speed really don't mix. http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/au...04888_14194.hbs
  6. Just paid a fella with PayPal. On the advice it said don't send the goods until payment has cleared, between 7-9 days. And that draws fund from my bank account.
  7. Got a vibration from the front of the Defender Anniversary - so I thought I'd replace the front prop cos instead of having it checked for balance. I've changed my mind though - cos it's a little one to fit around the by the Cat its not available in the aftermarket. Front FRC8641 prop - £517.38 inc. VAT. Outrageous.
  8. Hmm - I have a 90 with the same symptoms up front. It started after a Truetrac diff was fitted up front (which causes massive power-on understeer by the way). I had a big fat vibration up front - enough to shake the steering. It went in for investigation, and front diff adjustment and came out semi-fixed, but has now got worse when the UJ's were replaced. I think it is the front diff - but I can't find any visible wear in the pinion- the only way to be sure is to have it out for a looksee. I've read your post with interest. In your case I think you need to do some work on the car before futher comment! I would check the trailing arms, spring seats and dampers for straightness. A bent trailing arm is possible - it would drag the diff out of alignment. I struggle to see how the A frame ball joint could deflect the diff that much. No point fixing that diff pinion (which deffo needs doing) until the axle lines up. Keep us posted - and I hope you get fixed, but not before me!

    Laning

There's plenty of cracking lanes - but mainly in the south lakes though. The old coach road near Keswick runs from St Johns in the Vale to Dockray near to Ullswater, it's a lovely Freelander-friendly drive. I would take the Freebie and have fun with that - especially if driving alone. Do you use memory map? Old Coach Road Landgdale Troutbeck Valley
  10. After the last soaking I took the footwell carpets out. With the genuine rubber mats you can't tell the carpets aren't there either!
  11. Mine juddered in reverse when the clutch was on its way out. Low range was horrible.
  12. I think I've changed my mind again Dale I liked the Truetrac in the old 90 and reckon that with the auto box it'll be woth having another rear Truetrac.
  13. 235/85x16 will foul the bumper. Hope you didn't go outside and get wet...!
  14. That's Gary Glitter isn't it. Always dressed in black...
  15. Backatcha Did you feel jeelaous looking at all those proper roll cages?
  16. Nice articulation Porny - we watched you go up and down after the 110 Tombraider and thought you were going to fall off! Some bloke told me off for ruining my 50th with the winch and mud tyres. I smiled nicely and assured him that it all would unbolt and I put the original alloys with the AT's on for special long-distance occasions! It was definitely smaller, but very friendly all the same. Richard Beddall on the microphone strikes a reasonable balance between being knowledgable and anorak IMO.
  17. I asked at Sodbury what it meant - Quad Track apparantly. I thought it was something clever like Quality and Toughness. Can't knock the firm for slapping the QT logo over all their kit though.
  18. It was just like being there! I find it amazing that people make value judgements and stupid questions like 'do you have to make that noise' and 'you're really irritating me'. I find a polite interest followed by a little feedback, e.g. 'I can hear that in my front room' much more informative and useful information in pursuit of neighbourly harmony. He ho.
  19. Err, less gas? Sorry couldn't help myself!!
  20. I see it like this: Little guy (with good idea) sells through large reseller (with big marketing budget) to sell more units. Large reseller (with big marketing budget) agrees not to copy good idea from little guy. Little guy doesn't get agreement in writing, because he is a man of his word. Large reseller (with big marketing budget) copies good idea from little guy immediately, because he is not a man of his word and he has agreed nothing in writing. Big magazine (that takes major proportion of large resellers big marketing budget) wants to feature good idea. Little guy sends a sample good idea to big magazine to feature. Big magazine fits good idea to one of its cars. Large reseller (with big marketing budget) has chat with editor of big magazine (that takes major proportion of large resellers big marketing budget). Large reseller (with big marketing budget) threatens to withdraw some or all of big marketing budget unless big magazine features his 'improved' version. Big magazine editor (that takes major proportion of large resellers big marketing budget) is highly apologetic to little guy (with good idea), but he has little choice - and doesn't return good idea because it's already been fitted to one of bid magazine's trucks laden with 'freebies for glowing reports' already.
