  1. LOL, I have to agree with you there! Actually its now a 300tdi auto so it retreats by itself! I cant see much really apart from managing to find one that is very clean (everything still is painted) and origional. H
  2. Stupid question though.....do all people traveling in africa buy insurance at the border crossings apart from those that dont bother........I only ask as I renewed my insurance today and Adrian Flux said that they didnt even cover morocco with their NIG policy that I took out for my 90....... H
  3. Realisticly though, a blowtorch blowing over the intake does make a big difference when trying to start old engines. Thats what I use when starting a friends old ford 4000 tractor. H
  4. Id debate that engines do not get addicted to easystart. Easystart causes a huge shock to the engine and when it runs on it, there is no lubricating effect of the diesel running through it. The knocking is evidence to this. In terms of addiction, wear is increased and can do damage that way. Thats my opinion anyway and people sometimes disagree. I would never let any near my engines anyway. GMC v8s need good glows to start and being big capacity they need lots of cranking power. I would check them first and stop using easystart......... H
  5. Doh!!! Should say 1973 range rover axles on my 90 and Id like to fit alloys......
  6. Howdo, Ive got 1973 range rover alloys on my 90. At the moment ive got modulars but ive also got a set of freestyles. has anyone fitted alloys to their range rover of the same age and what did you do to get them to fit. The central hub seems to fowl on mine but the mods fit easily with no probs. Any thoughts would be greatly apreciated! H
  7. Aye, well flat out in second with lots of black smoke out the back is 3k on this one. As i paid all of £15 for it, i think that I'll just use it and add it up in my head. Many thanks for your thoughts though..... H
  8. I have no idea if its a td5 one tbh......I just bought it at a boat jumble a few months ago. Ive just taken the screws out and they seem to just hold the inner assembly......hmmmmm H
  9. I'll go and take it out of the dash and take a piccy. It definately works on the feed from the alternator so thats what i was puzzled by...... H
  10. Looks like I'll have to crack open the cover/case and see whats in there. Thank you, H
  11. Do you mean that there was adjustment on the back or actually behind the cover as all thats on mine is the 3 connectors on the back, and 3 screws which I assume are for holding the body on. H
  12. Hello all, I thought Id post this up. I have recently fitted a VDO tachometer to my 90 tdi and it seems to read very low. Its fed off the W terminal on the back of the alternator. Is there any adjustment on them as at idle it sits at about 500 rpm and flat out is only about 3000rpm. Any thoughts would be greatly apreciated! H
  13. Ive driven a 110 with one fitted in Scotland. The conclusion I came to was that it was set up too far off the front so it was very nose heavy ( so far as to be nearly sitting on the front bumpstops most of the time). Id say a 110 is the only option but didnt find any other problems with it. H
  14. Or you can drop the engine down on a jack by taking the mounts off and then using a combination of short extensions and ring spanners, you shoud be able to get in at them all. H
  15. Just a suggestion....why not go and find someone thats breaking a vehicle and pull out the wiring loom from that. Ive just taken the one out from across the bulkhead of a 1994 disco and there was lots of useful wires there. H
  16. Yea!!! Someone else who has managed to get neigh on 40mpg from a tdi defender!!! H
  17. What....I pushed it half the way............. H
  18. Well hows Carlisle to Bangor (north wales) round bangor a few times, over to Dublin and then down to Cork city............. and thats on a 90 tank (11 gallons) H
  19. Hmmmmm normally 29 to 32 UK MPG Worst 28 Best 42/43 Thats a 1987 90 running a 200 tdi, with disco transfer box, roof rack, winch and lots of other bits and pieces. The engine is neigh on standard, just the fueling turned up, I simply fitted a new one (hens teeth!) H
  20. Its the two stage injectors, which leads to too much fuel in the cylinder when started......Tell those people to not stand beside the exhaust anyway! H
  21. Heres mine...just to throw a spanner in the works. I did it this summer. If you like I can email you the colour details. Its not a metallic colour for the simple reason i didnt have the time to properly prep it! H
  22. Put in a new quote with them and see what they get back with. I did that and it was cheaper and the company matched it. Saved myself £75 in the end....Just a thought.... H
  23. Heya all, I am not that much of a regular member on here, but I thought Id poke my head up and ask a question.......Are there any Isle of Wight members on here? I am currently on the Island for a month and would like to get my truck out for abit of laning but have no idea wheres best to head. Any suggestions???? Ive got a pile of lanes off wayfinder but am unsure whats best and also whats unpassable. Many thanks and I look forward to your replies. H
  24. Would you happen to know of a company that I could buy these from. Ive just been on the phone to superwinch and the whole UJ is nearly £200! The recon kit is still in the region of £36. many thanks, HPLP
  25. Heya, Would it be possible to get a copy of the manual for the H14 too? That'd be great but would you also have the phone number for superwinch UK as I cant find it. many thanks, H
