  1. Hi all, In the end I insured it through Adrian Flux(yes I know) for £90 I think. I concluded it was a price I was prepared to pay as when I started looking for how much id need to spend to get one in similar condition (more than the 2k I said above), i wanted something at least. I have done as the rest of you suggested and made it stand out and made a mother and father of a hitch lock too. Thanks all
  2. Hi all I've recently brought my 16ft bateson back to the uk and I quite like it as I'm sure other members of our society would too. Has anyone any recommendations for trailer insurance in the event it does get nicked? Worth about 2k. Any suggestions welcome Thanks
  3. You would have a few other options in Ireland. Why are you being pushed for VRT when you have proof of owning the vehicle so long outside Ireland? Usually this is only applied if it is a recent purchase. I see you mentioned a business. SOme people were taxing discos as crew cabs, but if you are going down the camper route, id just take the rear seats out. Theres no reason why you couldnt have 2 commercials. Pm me if you want more details. Other Irish members might be able to help too. Hugh.
  4. That oil is all I use in my landys. If it would go in my motorbike Id put it in there too! I have done over 200,000 miles in my 300tdi and still uses no oil. I change every 5000 miles.I was recommended it by a haulage operator in the UK who ran over 1000 trucks. When you buy in bulk its not much more than buying it off the shelf in motor factors. Hugh
  5. Mine is fitted directly under the steering column with extension pipework through the bulkhead. H
  6. was there any change when you went over to mineral?
  7. Just seen this, what oil are you using? H
  8. I would have thought that either a small abit of oil on the clutch or the flywheel worn. H
  9. Hey, I've got purple ( interior light?), Red/green White black Green /brown light Green /brown dark Green Thanks Hugh
  10. Hi all, I'm in the middle of trying to sort out a chassis loom problem /short. In the long term I'll need to pull it out but I need to get to work tomorrow so does anyone know what the white plug on the bulkhead is used for? I think the black one is the rear lights but can't work out what the white one is for? When I unplug it, my problem goes away. Thanks
  11. I feel this topic is something that is going to come up more and more over the next few years as good 300s become harder and harder to get... H
  12. Thanks Guys, You wouldnt happen to know the diameter of the steel pipe either would you? Im trying to make up a adapter to connect it to standard fuel hose and Im miles away from the vehicle to be able to measure it. Hugh
  13. Hi, I am trying to find out what the fittings are for the lift pump on a 300tdi. Does anyone know what the screw fittings are that connect onto the lift pump are and where I could get some? Ive searched ebay to no avail. Thanks, Hugh
  14. Hi mate, Have you any idea what sort of route you will be doing? H
  15. Thanks mate, I might give them a call in the morning. I do see all your advantages to putting a lt77 in and Im seriously considering it. H
  16. Just read through it and they are saying that they will only supply the whole kit, not just the diff parts unfortunately. H
  17. Have you any reference/link to the part you need? H
  18. In all honesty Im looking at TDIing it for a few reasons. One is that LPG isnt an option where the vehicle might end up in Ireland and if it doesnt go there I'll sell it. I already have a V8 90 p/u and a 300tdi 110 and I fancied building one up to use for a while before selling on. If I intended on keeping it permanently I would keep the V8 but Ive got enough trucks and I rarely keep them for more than 6-9 months....... From what I can see a V8 (while its a perfectly good conversion) has less desireablility when it comes to resale at the end of the day and its something I want to consider. H
  19. Im learning that with this truck! Sould have stuck with defenders and discos!
  20. Aye but when you add in a series conversion kit from ashcrofts to convert it to 2wd, the overdrive option looks cheaper.
  21. In all honesty, I think that if I can get around using the origional box (series 4 cylinder) I will. While it would be nice to fit a LT77 it'll put the vehicle build over budget. Especially when I can get another box for ~£40. Even when I consider a overdrive as well its still a cheaper option. My mate has yet to kill his and he drives hard. I will pull the engine out (when I can source a decent engine crane!) and line things up. I'll take a piccy later and see how the clearance is with the bulkhead. H
  22. Thanks all for the feedback. I have a 300 to hand already and I bought the truck to do up, not realising that it was origionally a 6 cylinder. Ignorance didnt help! I hadnt thought about the problem of the bulkhead and clearance at the top. I did know about the sides though, which have been cut for the V8. Is the input shaft different on a 6 cylinder gearbox? Can i not get away with just changing the bellhousing? EJParrot, what did you end up doing with your diesel? H
  23. Hi, Ive recently bought a 1973 109. The vehicle was origionally a 6 cylinder but now has a rover v8 in it. I think that it still has the origional gearbox in it. Now I wondering, has anyone fitted a 200 or 300 into a 6 cylinder? Are there any differences between fitting it into a 6 over a 4cylinder? I know I need new engine mounts but would prefer if I can leave the gearbox in the same position. Thanks, hugh.
  24. Have you had the fuel pump out and cleaned the filter in the tank?
  25. Hello, I am involved with helping a charity out in Kenya and I have a question regarding a 1992 Rangie. Presently one of the charities vehicles (a 1992 V8 manual RR) has cooked its engine. They are struggling to put up with the 10mpg round town and are seriously looking at other options. Due to the work that they do a 4x4 (specificly this RR) is essential/ideal and Land Rovers or Land Cruisers are the only real option where they are. Due to economics I have suggested that we build up a TDI conversion kit to ship out there to convert the currently owned vehicle. Can anyone tell me what I would need to bolt up (bellhousing wise) to the existing LT77 that is in the vehicle on the V8? Is it possible? Im considering a 300tdi over the 200 due to greater parts availability. I know it might be a whole lot easier to just put in a R380 but I have the shipping and import tax to consider. Any comments would be most welcome. Hugh
