  1. Well, this is a subject that interests me. I have had a few pairs of the modern Teflon coated balls, and they do this: That looks like this at Parkwood: Or like this in the desert: As such, they are confirmed at carp. I have just bought a pair of superb condition chrome balls and am actively collecting good condition ones: I will never buy a Teflon ball again, they are inferior. Rechroming original land rover balls is something that needs to happen on a large scale.
  2. Pal on landyzone is building a p76 now Having tremendous trouble with the rarity of parts for it but it is coming along slowly Will be an engine for life when sorted As you say the RV8 is more an old friend whom we are very fond than anything else.
  3. I had problems on electric fans they just couldn't shift enough air, so I went back to viscous and never looked back. I fitted an HD radiator which is 4 row halfway through having electric be aide I though the rad may have been shafted but even on a warm day that couldn't manage. Went to viscous and it's ice cool any day, 82 degree thermostat and it's happy as Larry. Only a stock tuned 3.5 though but even so she makes lots of heat. I don't run a shroud because I need to wash the rad out regularly, frankly I would run one if I thought i needed to. When I refer to rover v8 as reliable and cheap, I mean 3.5 in all honesty. Anything else is already an over bored engine and therefore is an unreliable beast on the edge of breakdown.
  4. Oh yes agreed, sounds like a modern V8, but it doesn't have the character that a lot of people want, particularly in kit cars, TVRs, etc - that's what the Rover does best. V8 music, cheap, leaks oil : Rover V8 Actually want to go fast : Something else!
  5. Rover V8 is a mini yank engine suitable for our mini trucks, its an old fashioned motor so it makes the smell, sound and smoke of a big block yank but on a smaller scale. V8s that run smooth and clean dont do the business for me, i like mine rich and smelly and rough. Lexus V8 is, yeah, an engine with 8 cylinders arranged in a V pattern but it is so well tuned its just too smooth and good to make me really happy. If i was racing then **** the Rover id probably slip a BMW S62 in there or an M62 if i was too poor, but the rover is cheap, makes v8 music proper and is easy and simple for a simple man to own and maintain
  6. Ive got my plan made Nige, its bloody expensive and involves a lot of help from you Plus may need a shoulder to cry on when i remember how much it will cost. See you at donny in feb, im bringing 2 casings
  7. Nige, your typing is sheer comedy gold
  8. The motor has been tried on a base map direct from nige as far as i know fridge and still problems persisted! It's been a while since I looked at the motor but if my memory serves me right the air leak issue was fixed. It does have PWM valve fitted but mike was running without it at one stage...
  9. Tbh I thought that the speed of things at higher rpms would mean it's almost a constant flow of fuel anyway! You can really see how direct injection must help economy/tuning/performance though, so much more accurate fuelling...
  10. Mine idles around 12 degrees btdc mike and seeing as the trigger wheel is bang on the trim value is 0 thus it is 12 degrees on the pulley also I set up my dizzy for about 12 degrees btdc once and it was all good but went happy medium at 6 seeing as 3.5 was supposed to be 0 tdc! As such, I don't think it's that I'm just completely at a loss pal

  12. Than you again fridge for the insight. I have now fitted the NB again and set up tuner studio accordingly, one thing I did notice is TS interprets the NB sensor well and makes a determined effort to give a believe able AFR indication. Anyway, the WB is tucked safely away in its box and we're ready for action. Now I understand what the controller step size means! Mine is set to step 1 and I'm back to max 10, was 20 for WB All is well. Pleasantly, beta version of TS has gps capability which I have now setup so I'm keen to get out on the road and see what it reckons my real time mpg figures are! Cheers
  13. Right! Just that without AFR tables how can the ecu be expected to attempt to tune to 14.7 on the fly?
  14. Hi fridge Thanks for help Yeah I am tuned to 14.7 for cruising anyway for this reason i think, can't be sure but I don't remember putting any lean values on the AFR table So could I use AFR tables with narrowband??
  15. Yeah it was mostly handy for me to have the WB in cos I could watch my AFR on the motorway and back off slightly to get me into the late 14s/early 15s when sometimes I was gassing too hard unnecessarily But the amount of fuel saved probably just cost me same in new sensor so I'm gonna use the advantage of new sensor for an accurate trim up on the VE table and WUE and then remove it and keep it safe on the shelf
  16. Sad news today, after taking my sensor out at the weekend and recalibrating etc and it all seeming to work ok, today there was no sensor activity again. I had to assume it had died a temperamental death. Tbh I was slightly concerned that if the readings were out at all it was as good as broken anyway. As such, I ordered a new one from euro car parts, managed it for £46+ vat in the end after some bargaining, which was ok. Will get that calibrated and fitted then I want to do another WUE tune and will do another quick VE tune and then will remove the WB so I don't break it again!!!
  17. Pleased to hear it My advice from the outset would be use tuner studio instead of MT and MLV, I just found it much easier to get my head around doing everything within one program. Plus TS have just released auto warmup enrichment tuning in their latest beta which I have been playing with plus gps support for real time figures, all good fun
  18. Oh I see! Well, these are the latest. There's this one that comes complete with cheesy grin: Or this one tad more action but no grin: And this one probably has a look of absolute fear
  19. What do you want a picture of?!
  20. Nope that's confirmed Haven't got any marginally daft pics, the car takes itself too seriously
