  1. That came out wrong, what I meant to say was that an index of popular modifications could lead the searcher to some hints/solutions via google search results and not a direct link to an answer. Not me getting edgy about how my ideas were going down!!!! Sorry!
  2. I do see your point but hoped people would sort the wheat from the chaff! It was supposed to give people a hint to think about rather than a solution.......
  3. How about converting rear drums to discs...... I was wondering whether the links are that important......... Could not just the information be presented and then a link to the search results be given, such as For the wiper relay...... wiper relay defender site:lr4x4.com https://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=chrome-psyapi2&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8&q=wiper%20relay%20defender%20upgrade%20site%3Alr4x4.com Then all the links dead or alive would not become stale.................. It seems to me that the current way is not that future proof.......... I would think that it is more important to be food for thought rather than solution after solution. Then it would be far easier to manage and could be definitive. More like an index to modifications which are then solved via multiple threads on the forum. People are intelligent enough to want to cross reference modification solutions anyway.
  4. Headlight Upgrade..... http://landytown.myfastforum.org/about7578.html Might need adopting!
  5. Bulkhead would be my only big worry. They leak rain and make life a bit miserable til sorted. All the rest is standard defender stuff and easily tidied over time. Sounds good if you like the particular model.
  6. I'm assuming that you would not let the garage do the work. :-) I wouldn't.
  7. I stand by my advice. Anything remotely failable should be a pleasure to mend. I've never had an mot man make stuff up!
  8. I would not worry about it failing. It either will or it won't. My advice would be to mot it as soon as possible ie one month before due date so you can use and mend it at the same time over the month prior to test day. Take it to the cheapest place possible and then the retest plus first test will add up to a full price test. Did that make sense? If it fails they will generally only retest the failed stuff so it should be doable in 2 cheap tests.
  9. How about one thread with posts alluding to modifications which can then be researched more completely based on interest else where. Much like the thread with useful spanner sizes, torques and special tools list? You could have a standard defender modifications thread and anyone can add a post eg using a vw golf wiper relay for controllable intermittent wipers.... or use flexi brake pipe through and through! Then the post could just reside in modifications as an on going conversation with a mod deleting unuseful stuff periodically to keep it clean and pertinent. I thought this would be the most useful general info thread alongside a buyers guide and the useful tool thread.... I have wondered for a while why these are not prominent forum faqs? Perhaps they are and I am missing them! Also to teach new forum users that it is much easier to search the forum using google "site:lr4x4.com blah blah" instead of the hard work forum search. New users could be emailed these faqs on sign up....
  10. A steering damper should not really effect the steering experience. It is supposed to stop the steering wheel being ripped out of your hands on rough terrain. Damping the huge forces rather than effecting the small forces. You can easily tell if your old damper is broke by moving it. If there is resistance is is prob ok.
  11. My 110 does not have the stabilisers (anti roll bars) as standard so probably does not make much difference!
  12. Defender steering is a bit loose. Even on smooth Tarmac with a small depression rut from hgv lorries it can throw you around. I don't think you will ever compete with your Audi. The only thing you can do is renew all bushes and tre through out the vehicle. Higher tyre pressure might help.
  13. if you are really worried why not put it on an mot rolling road? Briefly!
  14. If the clutch does not slip then I can't think it is worn as you say.......
  15. The flexi pipe that joins master to slave can balloon?
  16. I did this repair Do it asap as it only gets worse, esp around hinges which are critical. I welded under the gutter and filled above. Get rid of bonnet buffers as they are a water ingress problems. I also had problems in the corner as you can see.
  17. I would think a new box from adwest is the best way forward, second hand ones tend to be problematic. If it is new then contact adwest. Not much to go wrong from your description.
  18. Having read your description again I think I am wrong as my rattle was not so deep. The flange mud guards cap the diff input seals. http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/174/236072-MUDSHIELD-FOR-DIFF-FLANGE.html
  19. If the rattle is really rattley, I had a similar thing with the mud guards rattling on the diff input bearings. They rattled when they could.
