  1. how much for the boot bits if you do break? (mine needs them) but why break? is it short of test? if not then just do a bit at a time, that's my plan. new suspension not long gone on, new tyres will be soon, then it's onto the welding once the weather brightens up. can the diff casings be plated, or source some 2nd hand ones?
  2. better still, try not to drive into anything at all.... as already said, most cars will go underneath and hit the chassis, anything bigger will just go through the sides, alloy ain't that strong after all.
  3. looks like you have found an ancient landrover burial site, call Time Team and their "delicate" JCB excavation kit to get the rest out.
  4. it is possible to get weld on replacement HD diff covers, most of the ball joints/track rod ends etc you will get from a local motor factor, or mail order from paddocks etc... shock turrets, bushes, steering damper etc are all sourced from somewhere like Bearmach/Paddocks, again all straight forward stuff. the rear seat belt mounts are integral to the boot floor IIRC (someone will correct me if i am wrong) which if you are replacing (about £60 for a new one, plus the x-members to go with it) will already have them.
  5. nice one, it's always good to know that the kit you have will get you out of 99% of situations, especially with that much weight and length of rope
  6. usually mail order batteries do not have any acid in either, health & safety and all that stuff. be worth just taking a cap off just to see. or can you hear any liquid sloshing around in there?
  7. two lights, one blue (indicates b/tooth connected) and one red, which pulses about once per 3 secs to indicate a fixed position. as in first post, it will work ok with GPSUtil, can get position info, bearing, speed etc....but typical a/r having a typical m/s paddy about it
  8. done that, but a/r detects the ports, but gives the message "no gps device found" ? when it did recognise it, i got the message that "com port is available, but no signal is being received" lights on gps unit are flashing to say it has acquired a signal, and the bluetooth is connected, but it won't talk to a/r. oh well, better wait for the memory map set to finish d/loading
  9. wiring diagram in the haynes manual can help (sometimes) to id the supply wires and the speaker wires. if that doesn't help then use a multimeter to determine the permanent and switched voltage feeds, speakers are usually paired, may help to take the speaker out and see what colours the wires are.
  10. right, if anyone can help i would be most grateful. i have had a nice b/tooth gps receiver for xmas, which works well with GPSUtil (nice little tool that provides the basics) but it will not work with autoroute 07..... the com ports are set up, although autoroute will not recognise the gps device, it is NMEA v3.0 compliant, so no problem there, but its doing my nut in anyone had experience setting one up with autoroute? cheers
  11. worth noting too that IIRC Luk clutches carry a lifetime warranty - i will check when back at work tomorrow
  12. IIRC they have replaced the double with singles
  13. unless you count a mig welder (for the disco) and a bluetooth GPS receiver for my laptop, then not a lot. hmmm, wonder if i can mount a 26" lcd in the back and hook an xbox 360 up to it????
  14. Unipart are not genuine, they are OE though, which means that they are OE spec. End of. (I work in an Express Factors Branch - so i know, lol) It could be Valeo, it could be LuK, it could even be Borg & Beck. The only way to find out is to open the box, as they are bought from who ever was the cheapest at the time - pot luck basically. expect to pay about £120 + vat for an Luk kit, Borg & Beck should be around the same as well. (FYI just checked the Unipart F/Lander kit we have in stock here (GCK2354AF for the 1.8) and it is Valeo in the box)
  15. strange, cos when i turned my rear demister on last night, my mirrors demisted too???
  16. the mirrors usually demist/frost when you switch the heated rear window on. not sure on the fitment of later ones though. HTH
  17. On my 200tdi disco 3 dr, the lower part of the 1/4 panel has corroded by the looks of it, and is a bit flexible. I have not prodded too much as yet, but there is bubbling under the graphics on the side, and it does looka bit flaky. what would be the best way to effect some kind of repair? i did think about a checker plate side kit for it, which would cover it nicely, or trying to rebuild it with some epoxy putty. obviously i will not know the full extent of the "damage" until i have stripped the paint and the side stickers off.
  18. rear shocks should fit ok IIRC, not sure on the springs though. i have just changed the springs on my 200tdi for HD bearmach ones, much better. i still have the standard ones in my trailer, and a pair of brand new (700 miles only) rear oil shocks sat at home.
  19. how big was the hole? could be wheel damage, or more likely tyre damage. inspect both to start. alternatively look at the front swivels, as you will get shaking from them when the wear, a pothole could just tip them over the edge i suppose. if its wheel & tyre damage, then go back with camera and ruler (conventional film type camera is better) take some pics and claim for it off the local council.
  20. hoorah!!! good to see some other people taking note of all the scientist who know the truth. there is plenty of evidence to support the above, and has been for years, it's about time that the powers that *cough* run the place took note, and stopped listening to drivel from the green brigade. Global warming is a natural process - fact It will get warmer no matter what we do now - fact force feed them all 4* until they realise i reckon
  21. not a bad laptop, try and get brand name graphics though, ati or nvidia are the best ones. other than that - good value for the price. the advent 7211 i got free with my broadband offer ( ) is cracking, 2.0 ghz cpu, 1024mb ram 100gb hard drive and ati graphics.
  22. i agree - did you see the LRX concept on the news last night? (was on Midlands news anyway) they showed when Greenpeace invaded the LR factory and put the "Environmental Terrorist" labels everywhere, they spokesman said that "4x4's were advertised as the must have accesory, and the propoganda that went with them should be dealt with" or something like that. best bit from this week is the greeny conference in Bali, how much greenhouse gas was produced to get them all there? and then the yanks are having a conference in Hawaii or somewhere tropical about there gas output too??? WTF?? most 4x4 owners genuinely need a 4x4 for work or other such purposes, and we are getting tarred and feathered by the green brigade for the minority that use them for school runs. rant over - apologies for the slight hijack there.
  23. good thinking on the tube. it will be on the disco, so the curved bit will make it interesting. have got the boot floor, rear e pillar base, rear x member and lh A pillar to weld in the spring (no garage and too cold this time of year to be outside doing too much too it) so some practice on this kind of thing will be a good start
