Get some old wings, bonnet and grill off ebay for a few quid, get them fillered and resprayed to match your truck and bolt them on. You could probably do this for less than your insurance excess if you get the spraying done for cash. I'd personally do that, and not even bother with the insurance company.
Thanks for the replies, so if i run a pair of standard pumps, it should be able to drain a 90 tank in about 10 / 15 minutes.
Whilst on the subject, any recomendations for a flush fitting universal fuel filler cap ?
Anyone got any ideas of what sort of ltr/min flow a rover v8 electric fuel pump would produce ?
And would using it to pump derv do it any damage ?
The reason i ask is, i'm planning on fitting another 90 underseat tank, on the passengers side, and then using the pump to transfer the derv to the main tank.
The reason i put mine in at a jaunty angle is so that each leg of the eye could be welded to each side of the chassis rail, to help spread the load down both sides.
I'd be very impressed if you could bend 20mm eyes during a recovery.
I'd sugest you go for the bent ring of round bar option as it very easy to make / use, especially when the truck i burried in mud or underwater, as you can attach the winch hook with just one hand and if you make a large radius bend it's less likey to fill up with mud.
Just my opinion though.
Why not modify the D2 chassis to suit the defender body, only 4 outriggers and a rear cross, then get it galved?
This is exactly the sort of project i want to build, but can't afford too
