  1. Sliding joint end to the transfer box, both front and back.
  2. Reading that makes me feel so much better about the state of my fabbing
  3. I change my off road tyres at about 8mm
  4. It's going to be something similar to the NAS 90's but with a 300 tdi and auto box. I'm hopefully collecting the donor 90 this week so will take a couple of months to strip and rebuild from the chassis up. I wouldn't mind doing another 100", infact i have a tidy 100" chassis in storage, but the extra cost of IVA and registering it would put a huge dent in the profit from the sale.
  5. If your looking for a nice white 90 i'm about to start building (will be for sale once built) something which will be right up your street
  6. I made a copy of the original x member by having a c section bend up in 2mm plate, and fully boxed it in and fully welded all the joints. As it's not supporting a winch i didn't see any point in over engineering it (a first ) and only cost £25 for the folded section of steel, boxed in with offcuts i had
  7. Whilst on the subject, what's the law regarding driving home a vehicle from place of purchase, which has an MOT but no road tax, and the driver has insurance cover?
  8. I'd say 5-6K if the truck is in really good shape and all the toys are in good nic.
  9. I smashed the lock out of mine when it jammed, with a large flat screwdriver, quite easy even for a LR pretend lock
  10. Not really, it's only 7.5" longer so not much, but it makes a big difference on the inside.
  11. Thats what i did and created a vehicle which can be use for so many different things. I'm currently planning / collecting bits for a NAS 90 300 auto as a build for this year.
  12. Only 15 due to the full moon and white snow, plus an LED torch illuminating the landy.
  13. We had a bit last night, but it's meting fast this morning
  14. To start and finish my NAS 90 project before spring
  15. I've just measured a pair of disco 300 axles which i have in the garage, and if you were to use the short side of both, you'd get an approx axle width (hub face to hub face) of 1190 front and 1260 rear. (+/- 100mm for land rover tollerance )
  16. Last time i bought BS1837 it was about £30 a 21ft length IIRC, that was about 2 yrs ago though, when steel prices were quite high.
  17. Not really, the National Park doesn't want anything to do with 4x4's despite the revenue it brings to the local economy
  18. Just a little bit on the ground in Swansea
  19. I have cleaned the drain plug out in the past, but it's no match for the persitant welsh weather I'm not keen on looks of those intake covers so perhaps it'll just try it without the plug first and then see about removing the duct all together.
  20. I never use the fan in summer, what's the point ? I've got the windows and flaps for that.
  21. Laying in bed last night, i had an idea about improving my heater in my defender. One problem i've got is whenever i turn it on to demist the window, it does the opposite, and makes it much worse, i think this is due to water getting through the wing top grill and into the fan. So to solve this problem and try and impove the output, i thought about making an intake duct which points towards the turbo / exhaust so the fan pulls in warm dry air from under the bonnet. Any comments / suggestions about this idea ?
  22. Another fabricated diff pan, but a bit too shiney
  23. My last 3 vehicle builds have been 100" so i'm biased towards that So why not build a vehicle with adjustable wheelbase, in the words of Clarkson "How hard can it be?"
  24. If you remove the two cross bars and remove the motor housing plate from the drum, you can tap the motor free from the drum side as it should be a press fit into the bearing housing.
