  1. OK Thanks for that. Gwyn did say I could send it back if it didn't work. I'll try and replace it with a double cardon one and see if it makes a difference. Rgds Ivan
  2. Where can you buy these from then ? I went to the website but they want my details so they can send me the name of a supplier. If anyone knows where you can get them from can they please post the address. Rgds Ivan
  3. My speedo works by a transducer on the transfer box. This "reads" the speedo gear in the transfer box and transmits a pulse to the speedo. If you were to change the gear to one with more or less teeth would'nt this change the pulse rate from the transducer and so change the speedo reading ? Ivan
  4. I just emailed Ashcrofts and it didn't reach a conclusion. It's definitely not the diffs. These have just been rebuilt with 4.11 R&P's from Ashcrofts. If I take the front propshaft the noise stops, but you get an awful lot of backlash in the txbox then. Thnx Ivan
  5. Mods please don't put this in the Disco forum as I am suer it applies to other vehicles. I have a Discovery with a 2" lift and castor corrected radius arms (Gwyn Lewis). Myproblem is, if you accelerate to 70mph and then come of the throttle you get a horrible graunching noise from the gbox/txbox until the speed drops. I have been told this is caused by "propshaft flutter" caused by the lift. So I fitted a new high angle propshaft (Gwyn Lewis again) and it still makes the noise. I have checked the input gear in the txbox and it's fine (Ashcroft Q gears) and there is no wear on the splines from the gearbox. It has only been doing this for about 6/7 months. Prior to this there was a slight noise but nothing like the noise I am getting. It sounds like either bearings that are failing or gears that are not meshing correctly. I have asked Ashcrofts and they could not come up with a reply. So, any clues ? Rgds Ivan
  6. Can't you just change the speedo gear in the transfer box ? I have fitted 4.11 R&P's to my discovery and Ashcrofts said they do different gears to bring the speedo back into line. Mines a 300 Series with the electronic speedo. Ivan
  7. Not on a 110 but I have OME springs and dampers fitted to my Discovery. They are very good and have been fitted for about four years now. HTH Ivan
  8. Thats usually because they sometimes need a bit of a run or gear change to disengage the difflock. If it is going into difflock then I would look at the difflock switch. Rgds Ivan
  9. Try a new diff lock switch. If it's only got 1/2v coming out then it's not working. Either that or it's not going into diff lock. Ivan
  10. Also ditch the G90 tyres. They are rubbish built to a price not performance. Rgds Ivan
  11. On my Discovery the ABS light stays on until you reach a certain speed. If it stays on longer than that you have a fault on the ABS and it's testbook time. Personally I would take it back. Rgds Ivan
  12. B ill I may have some Air Charts for Morocco I'll check later. They are from when we went to Morocco a few years ago. If you know the areas you are interested in let me know and I'll see if I have them. Rgds Ivan
  13. Whereabouts are you ? Someone on here may be able to point you to an independent LR mechanic who has Test Book. Ivan
  14. Git Seriously though have a great time and take lots of piccies. Rgds Ivan

    Opinions Sought

I recently had the starter motor on my V8 fail as well. Four (yes four) new starter motors later it was finally fixed by fitting a very expensive bosche unit. Ivan
  16. As far as I know the ABS CV joints are different to non ABS ones. ABS CV's have a ridge around the outside for the sensor. HTH Ivan
  17. Like others have said, stick with OEM bushes. I have taken my Discovery to numerous places (Morroco, Russia, Libya, Australis etc) and I have always used OEM bushes. Mine seem to last really well the car is now 16 yrs old and I am looking at replacing all the bushes when I get back from Spain. The current set have been on for over 4yrs. HTH Ivan
  18. As you may or may not be aware, I have a 300Tdi ES body fitted to my 1991 3.5V8i Discovery. Trouble is the person who fitted the body also remove the engine ECU (this also seemed to control the Aircon as well). Temporarily I have fitted a manual switch to engage the clutch on the compressor. The reason for doing this is the the normal aircon switch supplies 12v to the engine ECU and when switched on the voltage from the switch drops. This then tells the ECU to supply an earth to the aircon compressor thus engaging the clutch. I have tried using a change over relay but when the voltage drops it is not enough to deactivate the relay. So how can I get this to work ? What I need is some sort of circuit/switch that reacts when the voltage drop to say 5V. Rgds Ivan
  19. OK. When it's all decided can someone please confirm the dates and where we will be staying ? Thnx Ivan
  20. Streaky Had the same problem with my roof lights (Discovery). My solution was for the Wife (she's better at painting than me) to spray the center of the bonnet black. It has certainly helped as before you could see very little due to the reflection. Ivan
  21. V8Freak your an absolute star. Never thought about them. Got the cheapest quote from the AA at 103.92 for the trip. Phoned NFU and up to 20 yrs old it was £36.75 for up to 15 days. Thats bloody marvellous. Once again thanks for your help. Ivan
  22. Stormin Norman in the Series III club has done this. PM me and I'll see if I can get some contact details. Rgds Ivan
  23. Thanks for the responses guys. However, as I said my car is over 16yrs old. Yes, they will take your money but you are not covered. Europe Assistance - Vehicle must be under 16 yrs old, same for Green Flag. AA vehicle must be under 11yrs old. It's only when you actually read the policy do you see the limitations. The German thing sounds good but the website is all in German and I don't speak or read German I'll keep looking. Thanks Ivan
  24. Anyone got any recommendations for European Breakdown cover ? Most I have seen limit the cars age to either under 11 years or under 16 years. My car was first registered in 1991 (Feb) so need someone who will cover the older car. TIA Ivan
  25. If it is electronic (i.e. no speedo cable) check the transducer attached to the transfer box. It's fitted where the speedo cable would normally plug in. These have been known to play up. Also check the connections. HTH Ivan
