  2. No,bein a tight tw@ he is saving his money for a digital camera, instead of using a phone camera .It has got a flash but only works upto about 8" away Ho hum Paul
  3. I fitted a genuine warn isolator to my car and it has been fine for 3 year.Think its listed as a warn power interupter kit or somthing similar and it consists of a solenoid and all the wiring and an illuminated switch. My plan for if it ever fails is just bypass the solenoid to get it working, but upto now-no problems Paul
  4. Yep,bought an xp motor off them a few weeks ago and they were very good.As for the ce mark, they are all made in the same place so i wouldnt worry. It isnt as though you are buying a chinese replica where quality is variable its still genuine warn Paul
  5. Was lookin for some for my car a few weeks ago.Found some at cheviot4x4 but only rear tub bars. But in the end, being a tight tw@ i made my own Paul
  6. The woman at our b+b said she wasnt keen on groups of single men but we would be welcome if we behave So the plan is to wear tight pink t shirts and skip up the drive holding hands .We can say we arent single then, and get her panicking even more Paul
  7. Sounds like all the available campsites are close to Pitlochry,so should be able to come into town for a pint(or 2) Paul
  8. Round here there is a 1971 reg 90 300tdi surely that must be the earliest Paul
  9. Hopefully we will be there.By all accounts there are already 20 teams entered and all staying within 2 miles of pitlochry so the nights out should be fun .Also because of the blair atholl horse trials on the same weekend there should be some lovely ladies in riding boots aroond toon too B) Paul
  10. check/top up the brake fluid as this lamp also serves as a low fluid warning Paul
  11. If the south dissapears under water, does that mean where i live will be classed as down south Paul
  12. Kirton is a fab site and only 1 hour away from me .But on the subject of events,i live pretty much smack bang in the middle of the country and have to travel either 200+miles north for most events or 150+miles south .There is miles of suitable land 1/2 an hour from my house(peak district)but the "powers"that be wont allow much motorsport which means a major hike to nearly every major competition Hey ho,we will still go anyway, just sent entries for the tay forest challenge(600+ mile round trip!!!) but it will be worth it Paul
  13. I like the line-"i am selling them cheap" !!!! Paul
  14. As Jase says, uprated brake shoes seem to do the trick.Mine used to make horible noises when lowering out till i fitted new shoes(mine had the old 2p piece seperate brake pads ).Also i greased my new shoes when i fitted them after some advice from Gwyn lewis and now lowering out is a much less snatchy noisy affair I think your tyres would have to be pretty bad to fail scrutineering, most events i have done havent paid much attention to tread damage. After all you could have brand new tyres at the start and them be absolutely f***ed within 10 minutes of starting, especially in slate events Paul
  15. MMM wouldnt like to think i was hanging off a cliff relying on one of those .May seem cheap until your car is laid in a crumpled heap at the bottom of a gully Paul
  16. Yes Rob,i like the idea of a couple of push connectors. We use them at work(HGV garage)so will have no problem getting some. Thanks for the advice everyone,i will have a try today and decide which way i will go Paul
  17. Whats the best way to route the air feed to my front arb? on the rear it is pretty straight forward but on the front there is no a frame Am i better off running it down the radius arm then across or down the chassis then across to the diff and leave enough pipe for axle travel?? Paul
  18. Wen i first started competing i always drove too and from events. However after an event at tong a couple of years ago i have always trailered. We had done a 2 day event and was on our way home down the M1(only about 40 miles awy from home)when the car we were with started to overheat so we pulled over, within 2 mins there were 2 police cars there going over our cars with a fine tooth comb. They didnt find anything wrong but i got warned for having mud on my tax disc and my mate got a b***ocking for having muddy water in his headlamp .Luckily the next event i did was the midsummer trophy down in kent and i trailered it,i managed to smash the rear axle bad enough that it wouldnt even tow and i had to burn the stub axle off. The main reason though if i am being honest is having a warm cumfy car with a radio to drive home in after a weekend bouncing around in a cold drafty wet noisy old shed that smells a bit funky Paul
  19. OOOh! thats just porn ,just when i forgot about seeing the picky of this manifold on Devon4x4s forum it turns up here and gives me sleepless nights again.Who made that manifold? Does anyone make a tubular manifold for a 300.My welding skills are several light years from being able to create something like that Paul B)
  20. Spoke to them today and they said they would accept a valuation from any independant specialist or landrover club so it should be ok.The cost has gone up but i think its still reasonable(£199 PER YEAR fully comp)considering that it has only gone up by about £30 and if the worst happenned i would get £15k instead of £6k.The guy on the phone seemed genuinely interested in it and fully understood why i was concerned about "market value".Upto now,a big thumbs up for Sureterm direct Watch this space for the update when they get my photos and valuation,my opinion of them may change then Thanks for the advice everyone Paul
  21. I am going to ask them if they will accept the valuation from a landrover dealer. If they will i will be ok cos i used to work at the local dealers for 6 years if not i thought of doing like Tony said and getting somebody at the LR club to do one?Maybe they will accept one from the AWDC or my local LR club(Buxton and district)?
  22. got it from the indoor4x4 show at donnington the company was called darton fabrication http://www.dartonfabrications.co.uk/index....y&id_ctg=67 The insurers have asked for 5 photos(front, rear, both sides, interior) and have said to get an independant valuation, but need the photos to get there own valuation. What concerns me is if their valuer isnt clued up on off road gear(and what it costs ) for example looking at photos how can he see £1500+ of uprated halfshafts/diffs.They are listed in the mods but my previous experience of insurance companies is not good Like i said before,i hope i never have to find out,but would rather be prepared than get a letter and a big f*** you!! should the worst happen Paul
  23. I recently got the renewal through for the insurance on my 90 and noticed that i was insured for £6000.This was apparently the current market value for a standard car when i first insured it(4 years ago). However my car has been progressivly modified in the time i have owned it so i asked to have the agreed value upped to cover the cost of all the bits if it got nicked so i guessed that to build another car to the same spec as mine would cost me around £15k .So i have a couple of questions- 1-if i need to get a written valuation who is the best person to see? 2-do you think i am about right with my valuation?details below p-reg 90 300 tdi truck cab 90000 miles 1 previous owner +2"lift with front/rear dislocators modded shock mounts, extra travel OME shocks front winch/bumper-Warn 8274,plasma12,albrights,d44 stainless fairlead,6hp xp motor rear winch/winch crossmember-warn 8274,dyneema bowrope, allbrights, alloy fairlead,5.6hp bowmotor Front and rear ARB difflocks with ashcrofts cvs/shafts/drive flanges(should have by next week ) tomcat full external rollcage lots of lights ARB compressor gwyn lewis ground anchor/stump hook waffle boards mach 5 beadlocks with 36/12.5/15 simex extreme trekker2 tyres(5) 2x optima yellows bucket seats Garmin gps linked to in car laptop with memory map software Now before anyone says its overpriced,i dont want to sell it i just want to make sure its insured enough should any thieving scumbags have it away. The reason i ask is-many years ago i had a fully spec'd up prodrive impreza that got nicked and the insurance would only pay the market value for a standard car which was about £5k less.Hopefully it will never happen again but i would rather be covered than not So any ideas Paul
  24. MMM good thinking Jim,will see what arrives but i can always add another tank.Good thing about working on HGVs is a good supply of air tanks and air fittings Paul
  25. I got a genuine hi lift from Devon 4x4 a few weeks ago that was on their news letter.Fancy anniversary edition in a very fetching green all for the bargain price of i think £35 .Think they were just selling the stock they had though and i know there was a lot of demand for them Paul
