  1. I have a lot of Hitachi tools which have a hard life but do last. Their grinders are particularly good, in fact all my grinders are Hitachi, 8 are 4 1/2" and a 9". 18v battery drill is good but have got expensive, I do have a Panasonic 15.6v which is the best battery drill by far I have owned.
  2. steve, mine was in a sorry looking state but it was only surface rust but did take some cleaning up. Steer clear of anything that has had serious abuse, it may not have long to live!
  3. Steve, THIS is mine, bit expensive new! As others have said, you need to start looking at s/hand dealers, boot sales and local papers, I think I payed £20 at Sodbury. There is always the £1000 vice! (well nearly).
  4. I did exactly to opposite albeit on the rear! You may reduce articulation, at the least you'll need more effort to achieve full articulation. The reason for reversed dish was the standard (flat) washer used to hit the top bolt and on frequent occasions due to pinching of the bush under full articulation would split the bush like jelly! Bush is a blue polly.
  5. OK. Good luck with the hydraulics, others will be along to advise!
  6. May I suggest you look at your present set-up and find out where the fault is rather than start all over again? 440 AH of battery (which batteries are you using and how old are they?) and 200 amp of charge should be enough! When you say struggle, what's the problem? How many motors have you got on the winch? The purpose of the winch is self-recovery, and the odd job of pulling some trees down. I do not participate in competitions. As your winch use is not heavy I'm sure we can save you some money!
  7. The webbing bands either of the valve are not very thick and rubber valves can have a large 'bulb' inside so the metal valve is the one for the job. The groove is insurance against having to use a Black & Decker to deflate the tyre!
  8. I have their catalogue........... tyre porn!
  9. Plenty of advice but not quite understanding the application! Have a look at THESE No groove but you can cut your own.
  10. Morel of this story is RTFM before posting!
  11. I reckon you could be right there! Anyone else able to confirm before I make a tit of myself with Autopost!
  12. Seems you need NTC1864, NTC1863 and NTC4061. Hope this helps.
  13. Ordered exhaust for new project, v8 auto which has to date been mocked up with bits lying around, the exhaust being a twin down pipe version. I got round to ordering new, part No. NTC7320 which turns out to be a fatter tube (which is good) but when fitted hangs below the gearbox crossmember (which is bad!). The parts book only offers the one option for twin down pipe. Any ideas?
  14. Best we don't forget the Howlin' Wolf criteria......................... operate under 6' of water!
  15. My wife can make a rice pudding that would worry a type R!
  16. Alan, don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for a forum fight! This subject has been discussed on more than one occasion, Moglite and strain gauges? What do we want here? An evaluation of a winch for static recovery work or a winch for use at a winch challenge? If you take the vehicle out of the equation then are we not actually bench testing? Are we looking for endurance? This could last some days! Will electrics be limited on battery capacity, alternator capacity motor cooling? Will hydraulics be limited on oil capacity, oil cooling? Will the evaluation require the engine to be running all the time? If this is approached as a hog roast with some winch comparison thrown in for fun it should be fun, if it is taken as a definitive, end of story, my winch is the best, scientific evaluation it is doomed from the start. The hydraulic/electric debate is like religion, we all preach love of the common winch but if you don't worship mine I will kill you!
  17. That sounds like a true representation of a real life challenge situation! Neil, I can't see how you can evaluate a winch without the winch-drive ability which has to include the vehicle and even driver ability?
  18. Only you Pete, only you.............................

  20. Dave, why do you think you need two batteries and a split charge?
  21. Will find flaws in fibreglass but the penetrant does not evaporate and will take some washing off. The developer however is chalk suspended in a propellant that will evaporate.
