  1. Build a seriously oversize bench of immense weight and chain/bolt everything of value to it.
  2. Look at the price though. They are good but that good? For mere mortals probably not good value.
  3. Well said Neil, it's good to see an organiser considering the validity of a rule rather than rules is rules or it's my competition and I say what goes! Bit short on water this time?
  4. So 7 people have voted for compulsory use of a winch sail, could they explain why? As has already been pointed out is has been proved the size and weight of blanket we use has very little effect on steel rope let alone synthetic. Fridge, surely education would be better? The use of a winch sail is not going to protect the uneducated/stupid from themselves or others from their actions. Ban the use of winches on play days, only marshals allowed to perform winching but then not every marshal is capable of/should be allowed to operate a winch.
  5. The bullet has been bitten! Bought myself a machine that can swage hose fittings and exhaust/tube up to 3". Stocking fittings is a nightmare, there are so many! I've gone for 1/4" to 3/4" hose 1 and 2 wire with male, female straight and 90 degree BSP fittings. Got some banjo fittings as well plus assorted BSP adaptors. I will see how demand goes for NPT, JIC and metic. [blatant advert] If anyone is stuck for a hose let me know. [/blatant advert]
  6. Well said! It DOES make a difference when organisers listen to opinions and competitors and not just go on the defensive. After all, it is Neil and Co's event and we have the choice to enter of not but tuning the format and challenges to suit the majority has to be a good thing.
  7. I admit I was not at this event and I admit to making assumptions as to the depth of the water but if the deepest water was 3' then that appears acceptable. I would suggest that when setting out, any ledges or shelves leading to dangerous deep water can be marked by the setting out team while they are investigating the rout to the punch?
  8. Having followed this thread with interest, mainly on the subject of deep water I have finally realized just what my objection is! Deep water is the only obstacle an organiser can use that discriminates against certain competitors with a penalty of potential high cost. Water also hides the terrain and potentially dangerous ledges. Try getting out of an upturned vehicle while wearing a full harness, crash helmet, wet weather clothing which happens to be in deep muddy water. It’s not something you can practice, are there suitably equipped and trained marshals at deep water sections? Could the organiser not be guilty of neglect in the event of an unfortunate accident if the risk has not been assessed? Yes, this is an extreme scenario and the last thing we want is to have to wear 18” of cotton wool under Kevlar just in case of scratchy thorns! A site should offer enough challenges without deep water. I believe 3’ is deep enough and I can keep my ar$e dry at the samr time! Tight courses, long deep mud, steep climbs, tight gaps between trees, side slopes, long distances, navigation and even big rocks all carry a penalty for competitors in varying degrees. This penalty is not overly financial it is a penalty of time.
  9. The last thing I want is an argument! As I said, Neil and you guys must be doing something right as most seem to love the water, it's not for me, the damage potential is too high. It's a shame it rains every time you set punches near water and overnight the level rises 3 ft!" The best events I ever entered were Jim's JBS winch challenges. Virgin sites most of the time and plenty of technical sections, yes they do take a lot of setting up but it beats hide and seek and simple winch in, punch, winch out carp. On the cheating front the Argyle has that one sussed! Each team had a marshal! It will always be a problem till EACH punch is watched and cheats are named and shamed. In the organisers defense it is rarely a black and white matter but more interpretation of the rules.
  10. Adrian, You do know Neil the fish don't you? This is the reason I will not enter an event run by Neil till he realises there is more to events than deep water. Yes punch in water is easy setting out, makes for a good photo and with a disclaimer along the lines of ' if you think a punch is beyond your or your vehicles ability........' avoids responsibility for bu$$ered engines, gearboxes, axles etc. One has posted already of water in the sump, I hope he turned the engine off immediately! Obviously these are only my personal views and as everyone else enjoys the water so much Neil (the fish) is only giving you what you want.
  11. Good to hear it's OK, always a gamble when there is no personal recommendation or chance to try one first. The price of fittings is not a big consideration with low volume usage. My local motor factor used to do hydraulic hoses but is now under new ownership and the machine has disappeared! Local are Pirtek and Hydraquip but both expensive and will not crimp anything you take in. I've been looking at machines as there may be a business opportunity in the Horsham area. I fancy a machine large enough to swage exhaust pipe as well!
  12. Alan, How is the new toy? Are they able to supply the Parker fittings? If not there are plenty of other sources.
  13. Sorry Mr Twig but £100 compressor and air impact gun do not go together! The Wolf compressor you linked to is for air nailer's which use very little air. How about one of THESE?
  14. Henk, no fear then............... Going for the full four plank body lift!
  15. There is also the issue of weight, particularly weight high up with the effect on centre of gravity resulting in lack of stability when cornering, even on flat grass.................
  16. I'm surprised at Pete when there is a 200 amp industrial on offer! So after Billing there is a discovery with bigger tyres as well!!!!!!!!!
  17. There were pikeys travellers set up camp in Horsham, lots of stuff going missing but the police seem totally unbothered until one of the pubs apparently got a petrol bomb into it, the police decided to move them on, apparently no intention of trying to arrest anyone they'd rather just move the problem on. Sorry, posted by roguevogue, not Paul. We use the same computer at work.
  18. Anybody spoken to Exact recently? Gigglepin do a rather fine example. I have many interests in Gigglepin and wish them to do really well, I also love X-Eng in much the same way and Ashcroft take a lot of beating and of course David Bowyer is a very fine gentleman....................
