  1. Ok, Cheers! Think the main issue to resolve now, is the rear back stays from the top of the rear hoop running down onto the chassis, is there a specified angle for these to run at say 42 deg or so?
  2. Has anyone got anymore details on car 24: Barry Gee's new toy....... Looks like a new creation from the House of the wigan pie eaters with 4WS mog portals and tomcat body with saley winches
  3. I've just heard on the jungle drums that landrover are dropping the range rover 3.6 TDV8 engines due to customer feedback saying that they are too thirsty but then....... I heard that they are currently testing an all new 4.4 TDV8 engine that returns 30-40 mpg......... Will be appearing in the big vogue first.... but hopefully later on in the sport, release date is in a couple of months time
  4. Hi, Is there anyone on the forum, or someone who knows someone who scrutineers challenge landrovers up north round York??? I've taken on the build of a tube framed buggy that I would like to use in MSA certed events, already I know of a few problems with the rollcage design/construction but before rectifying these problems I'd like to have a chat with a some scrutineers. I'll put the kettle on and make em a brew as they have a poke round my build so far! Any advice is welcomed!! Thanks in advance! Mike
  5. I'm in York as well and up for some laning as well as bawtry or kirton, so give us a holler
  6. I had settled on the Toyota FJ80 axles with eggshells under my right foot, but have just found some Volvo C303's so that what the toy is getting! Its changed a bit as well, things have a tendency to evolve round here........
  7. thanks for the responses guys, I'm gonna stick with the V8 as I've got a nice 3.9 that'll drop straight in
  8. I'm not sure, can one of the elders confirm that? There was a series one I saw recently with a discovery 200tdi engine fitted into it mated to a series 2A gearbox (4 speed syncromesh) and transfer box. As far as i'm aware it on an original series 1 box which jumps out of gear for fun! As for going for an original 2 litre, I would if the rest of the vehicle warranted it from a standard point of view, but as you can see..... standard it aint!!!
  9. I recently bought my first series 1, a 1957 SWB which came with a very non standard 3.5 v8 on twin SU's. It was a little poorly when I got it and as it burns more oil than a diesel I'm toying with the idea of fitting a 300tdi into it. I'm just questioning, will it fit? has anyone converted one to 200/300tdi? what are the big problems going to be? bellhousing fab? If not then it'll end up with a 3.9 efi in it but would love to go down the diesel route!
  10. I drove one of those 6.2 GMC V8 diesels in a tomcat several years ago, it sounded like an aston.....
  11. Haha I would buy it but I'm saving up my money for this one..... Ebay clicky ere
  12. Someone should be put on trial for making that abortion!!!
  13. If anyone needs a bitch then i'm available!! Some Howlin Wolf, MORC and Challenger 4x4 experience, and as keen as a v1rgin on prom night!
  14. If santa dont bring you it...then......buy it yourself!!!!! coming soon...
  15. I'll co-drive for you for both days! PM me if your interested. Mike
  16. Good luck on the build!! There's something about well sorted leafers that I like! I'm still gathering the bits for my build like a magpie! haha
  17. You read my mind Rich cos that's exactly my budget for my next build hydrosteer or not!
  18. I'm just gutted I got outbid at the last second!!!! Why she's right bonnie mind!!
  19. I'd be interested as well, i'm in York with a sorted D90 and fairly free at the weekends at the moment. Mike
  20. So that's where the bonnet off our grey fergie disappeared to then Pete, I'd be able to buy one of those axles with my budget and not even be able to afford the nails to hang it on the wall !!
  21. Definitely £3850, unless I can sell a kidney or two on fleabay....!!
  22. What he said! I last used it a little over a year ago, it was heavily washed out and rutted in places, and be award that due to it forming one of the main access points to 'The Desert' police activity is usually high and be prepared to be stopped and have your vehicle check for roadworthyness. It is an enjoyable green lane though, but avoid on evening/at night and also weekends due to 'chav activity' on the desert!!
  23. Ok, seems like salisbury and 101's are completely out then, as is anything rover! Anyone know how much a set of ashcroft's hi-9's with lockers would cost me? But guessing the cost then I'd rather look at the C303 route so i've emailled fmv4x4.com to check prices/shipping/availability/deals with them! Budget wise, I had set myself a 'modest' sum of the price as a gigglepin winch and plasma rope = about £3850 as in built with lockers and front winch! its going to be a challenge! Before I considered my build budget I looked at what I wanted to achieve from the vehicle and came to the following conclusion: "To build an offroader for use on play days and greenlaning as well as private land I have access to , with a view to using it on selected challenge events like the 3 peaks, tay/pheonix, ladoga.... " My build is therefore looking like a discovery 3.9 v8 base, tubular front and rear chassis, tube front and rear, full cage, fox air shocks on shock hoops, megasquirted, extended radius and trailling arms, 4 link rear, 3 link front, running the boggers and preferably portalled with hydrosteer and hydraulic winch!! The budget may be stretched a little thin then! but I do have access to full workshop facilities have my own 2 post ilft and full workshop, and lots of dark hours in the winter to fill! Fridge = do you know of any C303 axle for sale, also what are the options on disk brake conversions? is it just portaltech or are there others?
  24. I'm just after some clarification of the strength of rover axles. My intended purpose is to hang them under my 3.9 v8 hybrid with 38.5 x 11.5 x R16 boggers on the corners. So here's some questions: 10 spline or 24 spline in standard rover trim? which one is strongest in the diff / halfshaft / casing? Whats the difference with salisbury axles? stronger casing? larger diff and halfshafts? Also how strong are 101 axles? Portal would be an option but Mog axles are far too heavy and Volvo C303's are like rocking horse poo to find! TLC/ Patrol GQ axles I've also considered, but again they are also a bit like rocking horse poo to find! I would also install diff lockers along the line in both axles, so any advice would be welcome!
  25. Just got another D90 with a 300tdi in it? But is it......???? Looks like a 200tdi to me from the position of the dipstick, and also not bee able to find the engine no yet..... Any thoughts?
