I run a Thermobile 307 in my workshop. Runs off ANY oil including waste so when I service a car the old oil is poored straight into the heaters tank. Up to temp in about 10mins and clean burning - highly recommended. I believe they retail at about £1500. Lee

On the transmission tunnel you've still got the hi/low lever poking out, you can get a rubber boot and foam packer to suit - these can be purchased in the kit from Ashcroft or I guess from LR. The auto box is from a discovery and the same length as the removed R380, using the normal mounting points on the chassis and no faffing around with props etc. Lee

Thanks The console ( and box ) came from Dave at Ashcroft Regards Lee

I've changed loads of injector looms, cleaned the oil from the ecu contacts and the opposing plug and never had and further problems with the vehicle ( the first time I even checked inside the ecu for oil - none! ). As I understand to oil can't enter the ecu - it just junks up the plug. Lee

I popped an auto into a 300tdi 90 only a couple of weeks ago................ You need to change the engine back plate to the auto version and of course you need the auto drive plate, boss and spacers. Gearbox / transfere box mounts use the original chassis holes. I spent just as long inside the cab getting the gear stick mount and console setup correctly and not looking like is was thrown together. I also purchased a setrab oil cooler and fitted this instead of the normal ‘ long’ cooler - space was very limited at the front of the vehicle ( winches / elec fans etc ) - and crimped some custom pipes to suit. My last job was to weld a plate to the auto-box sump ( yes it was off the vehicle! ) drill and tap a temp sender and fit a gauge in the cab - at least then you know if the box is getting a bit warm........ Good luck and if you need anymore info your welcome to PM me or 01983 524912 Lee

'You could fit a Warn 6hp motor from an Xp but they use American hp wich is soft, delicate and girly.' Hard, robust and manly are the XP's I use!

When you think that a synphetic winch rope costs anything up to £250, all that fabrication, materials and labour don’t seem all that expensive…….

I run a 90 300tdi auto for playing in the goo, tweaked pump, straight through exhaust and find it very drivable with plenty of power. I guess the main reason I use the 300 off road is the simplicity and reliability. My daily drive is a 90 TD5, bigger intercooler, egr bypass, straight through exhaust, remapped ecu ( thanks Ian ) and does it GO!! Much quicker than the tdi. For primarily road use its got to be a TD5. Lee

I’ve repaired / strengthened bent track rod bars but I believe any application of heat or weld to a steering component is technically a MOT fail - buy a new one! Lee

Off the top of my head the bearing is FTC5200 Regards Lee

Are you sure its not an air issue, with air in the fuel you'll have very poor starting and lots of smoke.................. Lee

The Bosch motor which is unique to the Warn’s Ti and HS winch’s is expensive but I have found them for just over £200 ( If I recall Devon 4x4 and Arbils sell them ).
-
If your ever on the Isle of Wight I'll pop one on for you!
-
I charge £150 for a 300tdi and £180 for a 200 - the 200 is a bit more involved, water pump etc and you need to top-up the coolant once everything is all back together. Lee

Anyone ever privately imported a drum from across the pond? Lee
-
Yep - I alway pull the gear box back a foot and pop a new pack in, have you got access to a ramp? ( much easier! ) Good luck Lee

I believe Devon do a very similar bumper for the low-line winch’s. I know the D44 kit is a tad on the expensive side but its very well made, you pay’s your money………………………

There Bosch motors if I recall - I've brought them from Arbils in the past. Regards Lee

My mate went to the 'big muddy field on a hill' and was very disappointed with the site and when some of the marshal’s displayed there ‘ Recovery techniques’ he left......................not before he heard the marshal’s bragging about pulling off bumpers from stuck vehicles. I have however been to the other site in Minstead and yes, is a great site. Lee

Panhard bushes normally cause vague steering especially when cornering and is not normally speed related. I have found the majority of my customers vehicles which suffer from steering shake have incorrectly set swivel pre-loads. Lee
