Stellaghost
Thought I would start this as a new topic so it keeps it altogether, maybe someone in the future may want to do the same, who knows ( that's assuming it actually turns out ok ) Regards Stephen

Gazzar
Photos. Of a fairlead. From the internet. Very different from the usual. For those who've not seen one before: Designed for the 101 nokken capstan winch that's bolted to side of the chassis between the wheels, driven by a side PTO on the transfer box. Cable normally strung along the chassis to the front. The fairlead can be unclipped and moved to the back as required. The cable rerouted to match. elbekko
Looking at that now, it looks fairly similar to regular heavy recovery winch sheaves. Like in this picture: In fact, this looks like pretty much the same thing: https://wintech-winches.com/swivel-fairleads/

Stellaghost
Hmmm I keep saying a build, but is it a build, I'm not building I'm removing Could it be a carving or a sculpture What do you think....? Regards Stephen
steve b
Possibly a re-creation/recreation? Steve
Gazzar
I think it's visualisation. Seeing the shape of the fairlead that exists in the lump of steel. That's sculpture. Creation.
Stellaghost
A bit more progress First drilled holes where pulleys will sit, drilled and tapped for m12 they will eventually be drilled out to complete size which is 16mm why drill and tap ? I needed a means of holding failead in bandsaw to be able to cut a section out to reduce milling time bracket to hold fairlead Now to start cutting, need to remove a slice 20mm thick, finished thickness will be milled out to 22.5mm Turned around Cuts finished, now drilled in from each side slice removed, saying it is a lot easier than doing it..lol happy with that.. to be continued regards Stephen 3
Gazzar
THAT'S how you did that! I would not have thought of doing that. Band saw! I had visions of milling it and all sorts of madness. Brilliant.

Still got milling to do to widen gap, using the bandsaw first will cut down on milling time Regards Stephen

Gazzar
It's a joy to see a piece being created. I don't know why, even my crude welding and shaping of steel into something useful is satisfying at a deep level.
