Gazzer's "101-what have I done" Fairlead Build

Thanks, that's helpful. Especially as I'm on the look out for the pulley that's pictured in the parts book. There's many similar available, but not identical. Knowing the correct and alternate terms will widen my search.

Heard nothing from @Nonimouse but he's mad busy. I might do something unwise. And use face book. I've an account that's heavily distanced from me.

Otherwise it's smart guess work. But it will be this weekend at the earliest, I'm behind in my chores: I've to do domestic stuff. Small triumph: I was able to start the lawnmower, my shoulder is sore, but only disused muscle sore.

A bit more progress, way too wet outside for Sid work at the moment

Milled a flat in fairlead and then drilled through

Easier to see from next picture why I needed a flat to drill off

the hole needs elongating with the mill but the hole will now let me sort out the gap with the fly cutter I modified the other day

Looks a nice versatile bit of kit. If you ever want something a bit bigger let me know I have a few friends who quite often grab bargains. The G. Dufour only set me back scrap value and collected.

It did show just how capable the little JCB was. It was dead at the time with a dead starter and although I could have left it on the trailer in the workshop I needed to free up the trailer so the neighbour came around with his tractor. It could just about pick it up by taking all the strain and curling the bale spike with the slings. We managed to get it just inside the workshop door eventually by pushing it sideways with a bottle jack off his tractor (JCB was slightly in the way). Once I replaced the starter a couple of weeks later it just simply picked it up as if it was nothing and I could move it further into the workshop.

Last bit for today

Fairlead pulleys gap now Machined out to 22.5mm

There's a small ridge left at the top where the cutter just cannot quite reach, that will be taken out with an end mill when I complete the slightly larger gapped elongated section nearer the shaft

Funny you should say that, I'm coming down to Wrexham on Thursday morning to pick a Bridgeport mill up,

Getting it onto the trailer and then into an already full garage will be a different story.......

circlip groove now cut in

This is where we are at, going to set up on my rotary table and mill the rest of it down to leave the webbing,  after that I will knock up a pulley blank to test clearances in the pulley gap  then it will be just to clean up and bang it down to @Gazzar
