yellowmitch
Hi there, I am going to build an indestructable (in normal use) 90 I have a 1994 300tdi hardtop in arles blue as my starting point, and have started to buy some stuff for the project. It is going to be a nas replica and has to be driven as my daily car, so it must be a good job. Questions I have which need answered soon are as follows: Can I buy the 1 piece pressed alloy rear door anywhere easily and can be bought WITHOUT the holes for a spare wheel mount? Is it easy to convert my 90 to accept series doors? Who is best to buy a mildly customised galv chassis from? What external rollcage is best and looks most like a nas one? How should I bolt things together to prevent corrosion (sikaflex, teflon washers?) What is the best transfer box ratio to use? 1.22 or 1.4? Where can i buy a heated front screen? What is the best cavity wax protection? What refurb work should I do the engine and axles whilst they are off? Should I use copper or stainless brake pipe? I need the questions about the doors answered pretty urgently but everything else can wait! Thanks Alan

foggy3061
To try and answer a couple of your questions; Series doors will bolt straight to your hinges - tho you will need the old series style door limit straps and early 90 lift handle door catches and strikers. As for chassis, try Richards chassis, they manufacture NAS replica chassis - i have just bought a 100" defender chassis from them and the quality and finish is excellent. Plus they can modify to suit your requirements.Richards chassis I would use all stainless for your bolts - more expensive yes but will last the course. Questions I have which need answered soon are as follows: Can I buy the 1 piece pressed alloy rear door anywhere easily and can be bought WITHOUT the holes for a spare wheel mount? aren't later defender doors 1 piece, without holes? Is it easy to convert my 90 to accept series doors? search on forum much discussion about doors. Who is best to buy a mildly customised galv chassis from? a specialist chassis supplier, most will only have standard on the shelf for £1k What external rollcage is best and looks most like a nas one? not sure who did the OE NAS kits ? safety devices? How should I bolt things together to prevent corrosion (sikaflex, teflon washers?) i'd use A2 stainless and nyloc throughout What is the best transfer box ratio to use? 1.22 or 1.4? whats it for? offroad? motorway? santa pod? Where can i buy a heated front screen? most aftermarket 4x4 will have part no.s but a few will offer fitting which is considered useful for damage/warranty. What is the best cavity wax protection? dinitrol good, waxoyl cheaper but needs re-aplying more often do inside and outside of chassis What refurb work should I do the engine and axles whilst they are off? as much as you can afford if funds allow, get a decent clutch while you are at it. Should I use copper or stainless brake pipe? haven't heard of stainless pipe, only copper/steel pipe and stainless braided hoses. Should imagine stainless pipe is a nightmare to flare the ends. I need the questions about the doors answered pretty urgently but everything else can wait! Thanks Alan hope the above helps maybe try searching the forum in depth for ages, not easy but plenty of good reading. Pete

western
Please Guys, there's no need to keep 'quoting' the original post in your replies as it makes the complete thread far to long & if you do 'quote' the original post, PLEASE use either 'Bold' type or change the colour so your answers can be differentiated from the original question. this applies across all the forums. Mo Murphy
If you change the clutch slave, change the master cylinder too as it won't last long trying to push against nice new sealy seals in the slave Mo
yellowmitch
Yeah! A right hand drive 300 Tdi NAS looky likey Now ordered 2 anti-burst series door bottoms, galv cappings, rubbers, handles, check straps etc Also ordered a one piece TD5 rear door. Complete with glass, fittings etc and a new lock set. All I need now are some door tops (either military or rocky mountain), some Iron goat door panels, Some Exmoor interior matting and seats, a Galv chassis and a few service parts. If I had that stuff plus about a solid months worth of time then my little Rover would be ready for the road! Here's hoping that it's done for the summer!
