SteveG
not surprised to hear that. What would be good to hear is an announcement that JLR are pulling out of North America. For too long the rest of JLR's markets have been subsidising the loss making NA. I see no sense in making vehicle prices uncompetitive in other markets to sell vehicles at a loss in NA. The volume benefits of being in NA do not balance out the drag on operating profits. If JLR were to announce this it would be a positive move for all their UK based employees. TJ101
Copied and pasted from another site Land Rover yesterday confirmed that it will cancel the Land Rover G4 Challenge programme in order to focus more on product launches in 2009. "Given the severity of the global economic downturn and trading conditions, we need to make some tough decisions and that means prioritising our budgets on new product launches. We are disappointed for the competitors who have shown so much commitment and put tremendous effort into succeeding as representatives of their nation. We have and will continue to take swift and decisive actions for the benefit of the business; unfortunately that means the Land Rover G4 Challenge has to come to an early close," said Phil Popham, Managing Director Land Rover. Popham continued: "We want to thank the suppliers and sponsors who formed an integral role in the Challenge to date. The Challenge played a part in bringing the adventurous spirit of our brand and products to life. We will continue to look at other opportunities which will enable us to engage with our customers and reach new audiences." A key part of the Land Rover G4 Challenge was its commitment to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Challenge was utilised as a fund generating activity for the charity, with the aim of generating £1million over the course of the next two programmes. Despite cancelling the Challenge, Land Rover remains committed to this partnership. Paul Jenkins, speaking on behalf of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, said: "The International Federation's partnership with the Land Rover G4 Challenge has already had a substantial impact on the lives of vulnerable people in many countries and we are well ahead of the targets we set. We highly value the support we have received and look forward to strengthening relationships between Land Rover and national Red Cross Red Crescent Societies around the world." "This relationship is something Land Rover highly values and we are proud that it helps to save lives. We will continue to build on the incredibly successful partnership we have with the International Federation and the funds generated to date prove this success,” said Popham. tiddler
Land Rover yesterday confirmed that it will cancel the Land Rover G4 Challenge programme in order to focus more on product launches in 2009. More accurately: Land rover has fallen to the back of the queue since Tata agreed to sponsor the Ferrari F1 team for next season. How they can pull off a move like that then go cap in hand to the Government for funds to "save jobs" at Jaguar Landrover beggars belief! OilIT
Th fact that TATA is sponsoring F1 is just about brand awareness for them surely - its not JLR thats sponsoring the f1 is it.... TATA is a broadbased company with the following companies trading under the TATA brand as well as a ton of other businesses which have independent brands like Tetley Tea and JLR- it is highly likely they all run their own P&L. As usual the press are linking the automotive finance issues with TATA sponsorship - which I am not sure is relevent or indeed linked apart from sharing the same holding company. Tata Advanced Materials Tata Advanced Systems Tata Africa Holdings Tata AG Tata AIG General Insurance Tata AIG Life Insurance Tata Asset Management Tata AutoComp GY Batteries Tata AutoComp Mobility Telematics Tata AutoComp Systems Tata BlueScope Steel Tata BP Solar Tata Business Support Services Tata Capital Tata Ceramics Tata Chemicals Tata Coffee Tata Communications Tata Consultancy Services Tata Cummins Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company Tata Elxsi Tata Ficosa Tata Financial Services Tata Housing Development Company Tata Industrial Services Tata Industries Tata Interactive Systems Tata International Tata International AG Tata Investment Corporation Tata Johnson Controls Automotive Tata Limited Tata Metaliks Tata Motors Tata Motors European Technical Centre Tata Petrodyne Tata Pigments Tata Power Tata Power Trading Tata Precision Industries Tata Projects Tata Quality Management Services Tata Realty and Infrastructure Tata Refractories Tata Ryerson Tata Services Tata Sky Tata Sons Tata Sponge Iron Tata Steel Tata Steel KZN Tata Strategic Management Group Tata Tea Tata Tea Inc Tata Technologies Tata Technologies iKS Tata Teleservices Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Tata Toyo Radiator Tata Visteon Automotive Tata Yazaki AutoComp I do agree however that the UK govnt should not be lending money to foreign owned companies - but its been happening for years and will probably continue - its what they do to secure investment and therefore jobs for uk workers...... mickeyw
LRE just came through my door too with a G4 article. However, the editor's covering note on the address sheet corrected this. To do with the cancellation happening after the mag's copy date.
