RangeyRover
Looking for a tool to help straighten Disco steels, The tyres aren't leaking but I have bent the edges quite badly. Looking for a hand tool to beat it back into shape with. Anyone any ideas, apart from making my own from a piece of plate.
disco_al
lump hammer? local tyre place used that on a fiesta steel a few years back that had a dent in it. depends on how deep it is really though
RangeyRover
Well, I was hoping for a tool to direct the lump hammer force somewhat. But it will be that option if I cant find anything. Perhaps I could ask Nige to whittle me one from plate? I'm sure an excuse to use that shiny plasma cutter would cheer him up !?
bishbosh
Lump hammer and a cold chisel / bolster. If want to be really fancy you can profile the edge of the bolster to fit the rim

RangeyRover
Lump hammer and a cold chisel / bolster. If want to be really fancy you can profile the edge of the bolster to fit the rim Thanks Bish hadn't thought of that. Pretty cheap too. I think that I will profile it, as I seem to have a tendency to bend em a bit.
SteveG
Looking for a tool to help straighten Disco steels, If you straighten them, they won't work as well. They are supposed to be round. ;) ;) :P

gazzer
Using a bit of heat (Oxy) and a hammer does the trick if its the rim edges.
hairyasswelder
Using a bit of heat (Oxy) and a hammer does the trick if its the rim edges. Bit harsh on the tyres (Derbyshire humour) I welded a bit of 10mm round bar on a bit of 40x8 flat and curved it round a little to match the rim
Giles tout terrain
I weld round bar all the way round the rim to stop them bending on my racer
Wingnut
A large Stilsons (2' or longer is the best) is a lot kinder to a wheel rim than a lump hammer for straightening. Just clean up the teeth marks afterwards (if you are lucky enough to have one with any teeth left on it) Peter
discomikey
i did this to 2 of my steel wheels, one of my disco steels and one of my defender spares both were sorted with a big lump hammer god forvives but rocks dont after i used some gentle persuasion with a 10lb lump hammer
