mad_pete
I have an uncontrollable desire to put gauges in my cab. I'm thinking Vdo Where is good to buy them from ? What temperature sender do I need for a Rover 4.2 V8? Do I need an adapter for an oil pressure gauge Rover 4.2 V8? ( I would do a search but three letter words aren't allowed :-( )
David Sparkes
You are thinking VDO, and asking where is good to buy them from. I have no idea. I'm thinking McGill Motorsport - http://www.mcgillmotorsports.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=25 They also sell via eBay - http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/McGill-Motorsports__W0QQ_armrsZ1 Other people are singing the praises of Auber Instruments - http://auberins.com/ Your point about the search restriction is taken care of by using this format in Google. Paste all this in the search box - site:lr4x4.com vdo Include the word 'site' HTH
mad_pete
It certainly does, that's top info, thanks.
doda456
Bring on the gauges, it makes like a big kid, when you have lots of gauges and dials all over the place and what gauges were you planning on getting? Ive got one for temperature and one for volts, and they lovely. especially in a tdi has it runs at exactly 78 degrees all day long
Pacey
I have just installed a lovely dual gauge by SPA design, it really is quite nice. Does EGT and BOOST, came with all the probes and leads etc. Quite pricey but so far does as tin says.
Retroanaconda
I'm thinking along the same lines mate. Hopefully gonna get myself one of those centre console things and put some flash VDO gauges in there. Voltage, oil temp and oil pressure to begin with I think
mmgemini
Only SPA gauges for me. Accurate and easy to read http://www.spa-uk.co.uk/design/
mad_pete
I was going to do voltage, oil pressure and coolant temp. My LC-1 has an analogue output so maybe something on the end of that for exhaust gas stats. The Aubers look great with alarm light and option for a buzzer but I do like looking at gauges. It just brings out the kid in me when they all flick into life when you turn the key. :-) The other thing is I can't see how to make the Aubers look tidy in a mud dash
mmgemini
I have three SPA gauges. Two are digital. One is temperature/ temperature for ambient and internal temperature. One is iol pressure/ volts for the main battery. Both have adjustable warning lights. The oil pressure warning light is set at 15lb/ sw inch. Both gauges are digital. The water temperature is an analogue gauge. Again with a warning light. In this case set at 95DEg C
mad_pete
There is a rumour of a VDO oil pressure sender that also contains a connection for the oil warning light so you don't need an adapter. Does anyone know where I can get one for a rover 4.2 v8 ?
Hybrid_From_Hell
Considered a tablet mounted PC with MS on it, the 8 main gauges are customizabubble right click on any any select from about 50 choices IRRC http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=21468&view=findpost&p=254736 Also for EAB (Extra Added Bling ) have GPS too Nige
mmgemini
Any oil pressure gauge can be fitted using the original oil pressure waring light. For me the original warning light switch, which I still use, is set too low. 5lb/ su inch IIRC Deemon Tweeks and other go faster places sell the T piece. mad_pete
of course I have a 7" touchscreen mounted. :-) but I'm still trying to fathom out how the car PC part is going to work and I'll still need to see some gauges when I flip the screen to my planned motorised rear camera ( well if a disco 4 has one ..... ) Also I don't think megasquirt has oil pressure. mad_pete
okay pop quiz. What oil pressure warning light threshold should I have on my 4.2 v8 ? I'm getting a dual VDO sender and apparently you can choose the value to a degree
Jon White
I bought my VDO gauges from http://www.egauges.com in the states - quicker service from the states than you get from many UK based suppliers and a hell of a lot cheaper to boot! I have one of the dual sender units on my tdi and they work well. You just need to know what thread the V8 sender uses (IIRC its some odd UNC thread) HTH Jon
