danebrewer Posted January 13, 2012 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Hi all, on a laning trip last weekend, (my 3rd so far) I managed to slide down into some ruts, and though I didn't get stuck (momentum saved the day!) I noticed that I picked up a fair bit of dirt on my rear mounted plough, it seems like a standard fitment, the truck is a 1895 90" CSW,even though it dosen't stick down too far, and because I don't intend to do a huge ammount of towing I thought I might fit a QD towbar. Question is, which one? I realise each have theoir favourites, and many seem to like the southdown one, but seing as it's not on their website, I'm not so sure as I'd like to see what I'm buying first, the Extreme one Here: http://www.extreme4x...LE_TOWBARS.html vs the Terrrafirma one Here: http://www.land-rove...Hitch&year=1987 there's about £30 between them, so is there any difference, in terms of strength? does anyone do much towing with them, and how do they perform? I'd be planning on making/adapting a dixon bate slider/drop plate to allow the tow ball to go low enough, again, wondering about strength and the torsion placed on the whole contraption.... I've done very few miles towing with it and mostly with an empty trailer, but I have towed 3.5 ton down a hard surfaced but pot holed green lane. I have noticed that it is a bit more clanking when towing and the metal around the pin has a very minor bit of wear. Also due to the extreme drop on the tow hitch (35" inch tyres and lifted suspension) the specialist towbar place put braces from the bottom of the hitch back to the normal towbar mounts on the chassis. I don't know about the quality of the above but I would rather my money went to Terrafirma/Allmakes than Extreeeeeeeme4x4. I believe Guardian make one similar to the southdown one. Just trying to find their website though and it seems to have disappeared I have one of Guardians (i'm good friends with Spencer) tank guards on my 110, the prototype infact.. it works and fits like a dream. vulcan bomber Posted January 14, 2012 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Not really got any pics, jut this one: Mine bolts to the crossmember through the bottom 2 bolt holes, you can get a NATO hitch on with it.
