Tim, you've never done any work with Jim have you?

I think he has a lifetime subscription to the Challis school of organisation - "if you have a big enough box, with enough bits in it you'll have everything you need. Sadly you also need a lifetime subscription to have time to find the bit you need" :P

I now understand the meaning of the phrase "duck and cover" lol

Tim - prob just as well, just think how many times your gate posts would get hit if Jim was driving in and out regularly over a weekend!

  • 3 weeks later...

ok guys- i have managed to write an interim list of things that need doing- which i will post tomorrow morning.

need help making a choice in regards to places to build car

choice 1:

Very large barn

pros: Covered, all the parts are at the barn at the moment

cons: only one power point available and that's not particularily close, only cold water, nowhere near my house, so away from tea/food/drinks etc etc quite dark, can be cold, no workbench or anythin, needs a damn good clean as there is **** all over the place

Choice 2

Home garage/ workshop:

pros: properly setup w/shop, tidy, lots of power, proper work benches with vices etc, next to the house (so tea/ food / drinks on tap), hot and cold water, clean and tidy,

cons: not quite as much space as the barn, and no cover if it rains, need to move the car and all the parts before saturday.

which one?

plan:

quite an early start on saturday morning- the earlier the better- aiming for about 8:30. will keep going as long as possible before you guys have all had enough.

can those who planning on coming please let me know so that i can plan for stuff- if you want to stay saturday night (and you are all welcome as long as you are happy with floors etc ) could you let me know. i haven't really got a plan for the evening- will sort something out i am sure- if anyone has any suggestions then please let me know.

those who don't konw my address i will PM as well as my mobile number, as long as you reply to this post.

looking forward to saturday

Cheers

Jim

Yep, OK with me, got your PM too, Depends on how far from home [probably more favoured] to barn & how we move the vehicle -- tow or trailer ? if at the barn I've got a 350w inverter & extra socket/extension lead on board my vehicle, I'd like to stay over Sat night -- used to crashing on floors,

i will have moved the vehicle to whereever it needs to be by saturday anyway so that's not a problem.

home to barn is about 10-15 minutes- which doesn't sound much but it is a half hour round trip which can seriosly slow things down!

i am leaning towards the home thing- but i am wondering if we are going to have problems if it rains- which the forecast is promising!

I 'should' be available on saturday, but maybe not all day, may have someone coming to look at the 110, however i will be down at some point and may stay over, will check missus shifts.

Barn/Home? Well that depends on what you can sort, big tarp for home or genny/lights for barn and also on what jobs need doing, can much be done in your garage or does it all need doing on the vehicle (in the rain  )

Mark- no problem- would be great to see you- even if you do make it down later than expected.

right- forecasts almost all argee that it is likely to be sunny/ overcast for the weekend so i am going to get the vehicle to my house. will check with the neighbours that we can use their driveway but even if we can't i still have a fair bit of space!

Here is the list of jobs that need doing- some are more important than others!

I have ordered a shed load from Craddocks that will get here tomorrow, and i hope it will have everything i need.

However, if any of you have any piles of old bolts/ washers/ nuts etc etc, please bring them along as those are the sort of thing i will be short of.

Tools that are really really important to bring:

Welder- for fabbing seat box. If two people coming have one then please bring them- two would be great i think.

Air tools- i will hire a 9 cfm compressor- i have some hoses and y-pieces on site, so the more sets of air tools we have the better.

Garage Jacks- i think we could do with 4 proper jacks- i only have 1 poxy halfords jobby that really doesn't go very high. i do hvae 4 axle stands and lots and lots of bricks!

Other specialist tools: only thing i can think of at the moment is a brake pipe flarer. if someone has a proper one then that would be great. Also if anyone happens to have a carb balancing tool as well as a timing gun that would be useful too, as would a good condition mutlimeter (i recently spent 4 hours tracking a non-existant electrical faul after my multimeter went haywire and i didn't notice!)

Other tools- bring anything else you might have and we will try not to get them mixed up.

food drinnk- does anybody have any preferences- your all getting food from the chippy (whether you like it or not), but does anyone have any allergies? what beer / alcohol do people drink?

if you have read this far- then bloody well done!

Jim.

I'll be there all day. I'll bring the usual air tools etc, garage jack and a couple of sets of axle stands. I've got a couple of angle grinders / drills etc as required - let me know if you want a very large tarp. Can also bring a genny if needed?

I'm easy as far as food is concerned, and won't be staying over so no problem with bed... ;)

See you on saturday.

Matt

Jim,

I was planning on stealing away to come help you. Unfortunately an investigation this evening into squeeling brakes has uncovered a popped dust seal on one of the front caliper pistons so I shall be attempting my first ever caliper rebuild!!

Parts should be with me on Friday so if I finish before the weekend is over I'll come down!

just bring the rangey down and we'll do that as well- with the amount of kit / people and hands i am hoping to have we would get it done in 20 minutes!

seriously

wouldn't take you very long- by the time you have airtools and an easy garage to work in i reckon it would be done quicker at mine than at yours- and you get the comedy of watching matt and fruity trying to out do each other!

Dunno what you mean Jimbo?!

According to Luvvers, me and Fruity both have the same affinity for oil/grease/dirt... Apparently we both manage to get filthy in seconds without actually knowing how.

Not quite sure how to take that!

Matt

Have swarfega, will travel.
