wettstuff
Evening all chaps Driving my 300tdi 110 tonight the expansion tank decided to go bang. Now providing i can get a replacement first thing in the morning is it just a simple task of swapping over and just topping up with water/antifreeze?(if so how much of each part) Looking at the puddle that formed it didn't seem like a vast amount of water. Will there be any need to drain/bleed the system Thanks in adavance Mark PS: Does anyone in berkshire has a spare 300tdi expansion tank in exchange for some beer tokens
western
this is the later version straight swap for the black version, part number PCF101590 1/3rd anti freeze to 2/3rd water will be sufficient for UK use.

reb78
I have a black one from a 200tdi in the garage that you can have if it us compatible with your truck. Only thing we'd need to do is pressure test it to check its definitely ok.
dailysleaze
this is the later version straight swap for the black version, part number PCF101590 Does anyone know if they're better in anyway or just a different colour? I know the 300Tdi expansion tank is a weak point and can split. There are aluminium replacements available, although i'd worry that something else (radiator) might then become the weak point. Sirocco
I would like to know this to. A friend had the black one split and replaced with the above. G
western
probably a different type of plastic & less prone to cracking under pressure/heat/vibration. my black one is OK [famous last words] but thinking of swapping it anyway.
reedx
The new ones have the other advantage of being able to view the coolant level from the outside, that was the reason for changing mine. Colin
Arbman Al
I've got a spare 300tdi expansion tank if you want it? I am in West End near Lightwater and M3. I'll be at home from 1.00pm onwards. I'll send a pm as well.
jimyd
Are you sure of the reason for the expansion tank exploding? Its probably worth checking / replacing the cap and doing a few checks for head gasket failure, hopefully its just an old duff tank, but would hate for you to put a new one on and for the same thing happen. mmgemini
I threw that plastic header tank on mine away after the reports of the black ones cracking. Fitted a nice alli one from Alli-Sport with a proper rad cap as well.
