eds
Just some advice on oil leaks for the mot Sorry if I identify diff pinion wrongly, it is the bit the drive shaft connects to the diff. If this weeps will it fail? In fact what is the situation with oil leaks. I heard the regulations have changed. Thank you all as usual Ed
landy V8
apparently you are not supposed to have any leaks(never gonna happen with a LR).just before you drive it in,get underneath and go round with a rag and wipe parts over.
CwazyWabbit
What is defined as a leak? I know that sounds a stupid question but does it have to have a drip visible or does just a generally oily appearance constitute a leak?
ejparrott
Well the 88 went through hers with the usual line down the oil filter, which I never seem to be able to stop, and she passed. My garage is strict too.
landroversforever
If its bad, just wipe it over before it goes in. Mine has a few drips and it passed the MOT just after easter.

CwazyWabbit
If that's the case then it would have to be fairly bad to fail
GBMUD
On February 13th my 90 got an advisory "004 Offside front tractor joint has slight leak", by which they meant the front OS swivel seal. If your pinion seal is weeping then I would say you are fine, if there is oil everywhere then less so, and if it drips on the tester then God help you! They are quite easy to change... Steve King
If it is a Salisbury dif, I have a genuine seal that you can have....
dirtydiesel
A diff pinion oil seal leaking, no matter how bad is not a reason for rejection. The regulations concerning oil leaks have not changed in any way.
