jad
Good thing I have power steering then although it is quite easy to turn the steering at a stand still engine off.... Hope we have got the castor angle right! Jad
discomikey
unless you are in a go kart (which has rather extreme castor and camber), you shouldnt be able to feel any self centering as its the "drag" as such which pulls the steering straight again. hence why coming out of a junction and you start off slow then boot it, it doesent really feel like its centering at all, and when you do boot it you can let go of the wheel and it will straighten up all on its own im sure itll be fine, with the attention to detail and workmanship going into this build. ejparrott
standard fitment on defenders, discos etc.... am I missing the actual question? Fitted coil axles so fitted the steering damper as well. Is it not needed on leafs? Jad Why not use the standard series pin to pin damper, rather than a backwards 90/110 damper that was all...although I still haven't got round to fitting it to The 109 and that did a fair few miles before rear diff bearings collapsed
jad
I never knew any series were fitted with steering dampers. So thats probably one reason and my dad has already made the bracket!.... Jad
Soren Frimodt
But since you don't have the steering relay you are going to love it! When I made my ball bearinged relay I needed it, and now that I ahve a P38 box I needed it again. So now I have finally fitted it and it so nice to have, especially when you go fast on bad roads, and that is probably exactly what your leafsprung rocketship is going to do! ejparrott
I never knew any series were fitted with steering dampers. So thats probably one reason and my dad has already made the bracket!.... Jad yeah it was an option. There an eye welded on the drag link, and then there's a drop bracket on the opposite chassis rail to the relay. I need to do something special for The 109 as the 90/110 damper on the 90/110 drag link doesn't line up
jad
Dont have many pictures to show for last weekends work even though it feels like we did a lot.... A handbrake bracket for the borg warner transfer box was copied. and the seat box was wire brushed and wiped down and fitted along with the other panels and floor. Some work needs doing to the floor and the gearbox tunnel needs to be designed and made. A standard handbrake was fitted along with a propshaft on the rear which just happened to be the correct size. I am not happy with the props clearance though so think I will order solid ones for front and rear just to be on the safe side! We also painted around the front lights so that they can be installed and my dad can start to construct the wiring loom Trying to think what else happened.... but im struggling Cheers Jad
jad
Wooh I have a clutch! Not sure if it works under power yet but it does while rotating the engine by hand...... We also started to make some rock sliders. Enough metal was bought for a 90 and the 109. and more photos in the next post.....

seriebil.dk
Uhhh, Nice. Any pics of how these rock sliders are attached to the frame, please..
jad
Not yet. We are doing more on them today but will have to see how far I get. Polishing my new (to me) TVR may get in the way though.... Jad
jad
Another update. Some bits we completed on 1 rockslider the last weekend I was home. This weekend we have cracked on with some other bits towards getting the car running.... Would be nice to make some progress in that direction as its starting to drag a bit at the moment! I have run the fuel lines and my dad has started on the electrics. I have measured up the propshafts so will put an order in for them soon and I intend on replacing the oil lines to the remote oil filter as I am not happy with the current ones. The oil pressure on these engines is quite high especially when cold so I definitely want the hoses to cope! A few more pictures later... Adam001
Getting there slowly but surely! How are you tackling the power steering? Or are you going Manual?
jad
I really dont get enough weekends on this Going for power steering. The idea is just to use the lexus steering pump with the P38a steering box, get some pipes made up and errrrr see how it works Lights in... Fuel Pipes in... Unfortunately! I have a slight leak... From the washer I made that centralises itself and the banjo bolt around the part that takes out pulsations from the fuel pump. It was a pain in the backside to do on the lathe without bits jumping off and embedding themselves in the surface making it not the flattest. Anyone have any suggestions? Cheers Jad
Adam001
What a bizarre piece of design, can you not buy a OEM washer? Personally I would be tempted to remove the pulsation suppressor especially as you don't look to be using nylon hard lines and I am assuming the fuel pump is a standard pump not some weird diaphragm affair, not sure how much value it is actually serving, did lexus use a un-conventional fuel pump that meant they were necessary?
jad
Oi thats my design The lexus one has a banjo that has different diameter holes either side so this centralises itself and uses a standard washer and the "gapped" silver one pictured above. As my banjo has the same size larger hole both sides I was trying to use the washer to centralise it. i am tempted to just use a banjo bolt and remove the pressure fluctuation part as its probably not going to be the end of the world.... but my dad thought I should keep it. The pump is a Walbro 250 external type and its all aeroquip hose. Jad
Adam001
I was talking about the whole thing, your washer is lovely haha! Ah I see, explains it! Hats off to you for trying to stay OEM! Assuming you have a suitable regulator matched to the pump then, personal view, bin it and just use the banjo as you say. Never seen anything like it used, just the japs over-engineering it! Nothing I have ever seen has used anything like it, I'm betting it has pretty standard bosch injectors aswell.
jad
The regulator is the standard as well. Its on the exit of the fuel rail. 41psi above manifold pressure its meant to be. Not sure what the injectors are. No signs of them leaking with the pump running straight from the battery though :-) jad
vulcan bomber
Unfortunately! I have a slight leak... From the washer I made that centralises itself and the banjo bolt around the part that takes out pulsations from the fuel pump. It was a pain in the backside to do on the lathe without bits jumping off and embedding themselves in the surface making it not the flattest. Anyone have any suggestions? Need some more info on what you've done, material, cutting tool, cutting oil, machine, feeds and speeds you used and so on.
jad
Hi VB Have changed tack now. just fitted a standard banjo bolt and washers from the LS400 that was sitting in the front garden. Now no leak! I am sure it wont effect it... Last weekend I was mostly making my mind up on what parts to buy for things. Now have on order different oil connections and hose for the remote oil filter, power steering pipes and connections and ait intake parts. I am also trying to find someone that can make me some solid propshafts without trying to charge the earth for them! While that was going on my dad was actually doing something useful! He set about covering the dash and getting everything installed. Here it is. cheers Jad
