=jon=
Welcome Whats your budget? And what's the intended use - for pay and play sites, competitions, recovering people stranded in the snow?
FridgeFreezer
And would Sir like the 5-minute argument or the full internet holy war?
Arjan
Welcome. We have an Superwinch X9 on the Hybrid and works just fine. Can you please put up some pics of the conversion ???
honitonhobbit
Like Fridge said - small scale argument or generations long clan war? Like Arjan, I use X9's. Not for you really. Rarer by the day, old school, need regular servicing due to not being that waterproof; against pulls all day, huge range of motors, cheap as chips if you buy and re-build (huge money if not) and reliable as can be. If I were to advise - and no doubt someone would shoot me down here - by a cheap disposable winch like AEW/GEW/Master Winch/Cheaper Champion. Get a deal with plastic string and a blingy fair lead. Then learn to use it - get training; although by that I mane proper training and not a 50 quid half, shared with 20 other people at a popular venue in the East Midlands or North Yorkshire. Then use the thing - work it until it die, then re-build it, then kill it again. By this time you will have saved up for a Talon or one of Uncle David's nice TDS's; or you will have bought one of my nice re-built, up motored X9's.... honitonhobbit
forgot to say, speed is not the king here - reliability is. Only one company in the world make a really good fast, crazy reliable, sexy beautiful winch that is the dogs dangling repro organs - and that is Red Winches. Sex on the front (or rear oooer) of your truck, that can go all day, all night and all day again for weeks on end and still look gorgeous.... FridgeFreezer
sexy beautiful winch... and still look gorgeous.... Sometimes I worry about you, Mr Hobbit then I remember I'm just as bad
honitonhobbit
John, Red are about 15 miles away from my house and I've watched them making winches for years now, since the first winches for Supacat. Their stuff is winch porn - in fact all their stuff is porn. Even the medical kit. I could watch their machines producing stuff all day.... They make good coffee as well
FridgeFreezer
I'm so not down with the cool kids on winches. Coffee I can do.
honitonhobbit
Big whizzy whizzy machines that turn blocks of metal stuff into winch porn? Welding porn? Axle porn? Laser etching porn?
discomikey
I can only recommend a Goodwinch TDS from personal experience (other than competition winches but that's a whole 'nother ball game) Iv'e not used it in anger too much but it seems to work well and hasn't broken yet... on another note, not sure about other members but i wouldn't even contemplate steel winch wire. bought mine with a bowrope and having used steel wire round the farm for non winching duties, wouldnt touch it with a 100ft barge pole! synthetic rope IMO is well worth the extra cost
Nigelw
Just gonna pipe in here, unless you have intent on regular use, get a demountable cradle with the big fat Anderson connectors, it enables front and rear winching, lets you leave it in the garage when not needed(although "you never know" gets talked up, reality is you have to go looking for things to winch), if weather turns south, strap it down in the back an you're covered. First winch? My guess is yes, so buy cheapy chinese one to start, can be had for less than 200 sheets, as HH says, get some training, it will probably save your, or someone else life! Cannot stress secure mountings enough!!!! Chassis has to be tip top or it can get messy!!!!! Buy one, use it and above all, enjoy it
xychix
I'm more than happy with my TirFor hand winch, heavy work but does the job! Without compromising looks and minimal brakedown failure.
