Nigelw
Last year I replaced the clutch after cooking it a bit dragging trucks out of the parking. It always juddered/shuddered a bit, but it was noticeably less after the clutch, but itsnewming back again, made more noticeable as I have been in stop start traffic these last days as I am on a building site in the middle of a housing estate next a school, traffic is horrendous!! Almost certain the clutch is not at fault, but can the judder/shudder be anything else?
Ed Poore
Oil on the clutch? I had that on my Series for a bit when the crank seal went.
Bowie69
If left for a while, my old series would be like that, a bit of spirited driving soon burnt it off
dirtyninety
I always put it down to worn clutch springs.
Snagger
If the flywheel was polished or warped, the problem would return. Did you replace the pressure plate wit the friction plate? I would check that the hand brake is disengaging correctly - they can cause judder at low speed if they are over adjusted or jammed.
steve b
Yeah , that handbrake drag judder/knock can sound quite alarming , it also happens when there is oil on the shoes . Do you have the wading bung in the flywheel housing Nigel ? oil vapour in there will cause judder too cheers Steveb
Nigelw
I rubbed the flywheel over with emery and replaced pressure and friction plate together, the clutch has seemed heavier than before but I put it down to the new one being a HD unit with stronger/stiffer diaphragm? The wading plugs are in the glove box for both timing case and bell housing. I have been told to look at both the gearbox mounts and the hand brake for perishing and drag. steve b
Check the sliding joints in the props too Nigel , when they get stiff/seize it can show as juddering vibrations cheers Steveb
Snagger
"I have been told to look at both the gearbox mounts and the hand brake for perishing and drag." Funnily enough, there was a story in Rich's (Glencoyne) column in LRM recently about the same fault being misdiagnosed as clutch judder. No time to roll around under it yet as back from house view number 2 now and it's getting dark! Will check tomorrow at work, maybe hoist it up on the forklift to get better look. Now off to ASDA to see if they have a copy of LRM....
Quagmire
I had a judder from the drivetrain that was (seemingly) cured with a new spigot bush.
