  1. I'm on standard height with standard duty springs with Gwyn's challenge kit, but with the new rear damper mount and am using x springs at the back. Balance it what I want. Don't get me wrong, I do get travel at the front - but I think the balance may have been more even before in some ways. I also know what you mean about people getting it all wrong about lift and travel and so on. I spoke to someone just the other day who had a mad 4" lift on a Disco but standard length shocks. They thought the only thing stopping them having travel like my Gwyn challenge set up was that they'd left the ARB on.. I'll look into drilling the bushes. What would people recommend? anyone pictures of theirs done?
  2. I think in the article I read they'd done it at 8 mm. I seem to remember they drilled it out and then put the drill back in at a very high speed and ran it until the rubber smoked so it sealed it. Let me know how you get on please - I'd be very interested to see the difference it makes.
  3. Sorry to resurrect an old thread ..... but what can we do to make the front easier to flex? I think I read a thread with folk saying its largely the bushes on the radius arm that limit it - and that they had had good results with drilling the bushes....? I wondered if the fact that the back being is so supple means it takes up the range of motion before the front needs to move much ? Mine also has an ARB fitted on the front but I got a lot more travel on the back with and arb on their than I am on the front with its on - so I'm presuming it isn't the major player. Any thoughts anyone ?
  4. I was just about to say its already been posted - but you've replied on there too.
  5. The course looks poor but I hope the show is a success.
  6. Prices seem to be quite reasonable on nearly all I've seen ..... except this one !!? Why is this one listed on ebay for £20k?
  7. Mines the later type with the different type cable adjuster - and its a pain to get too and I can't seem to get it to take the slack out of the cable after the drum has been adjusted. I think an x-brake is the way forward.
  8. That's just a spring seat - his issue is that he is using raised spring seats, like those in the front of your pic, to give a little extra height - but he then can't find a good solution for how to retain the spring onto that plate.
  9. Could you not use a Range Rover isolator ring at the top of the spring on that side? would that give the lift you need?
  10. Who has made there mind up and is going to be at Newark? I'm going for the day on Saturday and would love to meet up with any forum members to say hello.......
  11. You could be right. Four holes - each going from an inch to 2 1/2". I have some steel porting tools - but they are taking a long time and I don't think are cut out for removing this much material. I have a dremel and a few stones but they again are just too small for the job. The Ally is about 3mm thick. Maybe I should see if Aldi have any Air Die Grinders left - or check out screwfix.
  12. Did you're mothers never say 'if you've nothing nice to say - don't say anything?' tut tut
  13. With a tape measure in the garage now - the std turrets are approx 10 1/4" from the top edge to the bottom of the flange. I've two std ones spare if you want to replace the ones you have. You shouldn't need to put after-market turrets on if all you are after is the lift. +2" turrets will give you 2" more compression travel but 2" less rebound travel.
  14. Unfortunately its an extrusion of small box section - I can't get wood or steel in behind the front face to shield the back one. Otherwise I would have done that and gone the hole saw route.
  15. I'm enlarging some existing holes, but not concentrically, so no scope to use a hole saw.
  16. Thanks guys - I'm cutting circles.... I was concerned that it might cut into the back face of the box section, where I only want to cut into the front. Is that a danger? The internal gap is approx 10mm. Sorry for the beginners questions
  17. I run 28 front and 30 rear with bfg at's. Spot on at that for me.
  18. It's smaller than I thought! Someone on here did an install on a disco with hard wired outlets to each side - so a push fit airline could be plugged into the outside of each side.. Have you seen that? I can't seem to find it but might be worth looking at?
  19. Anyone cut Ally with a plasma torch? I'm wanting to cut holes in one side of a box section extrusion and wondered how it'd work ... any info gratefully received. Stephen
  20. Gosh My friend ran a couple of stitch welds last night between my chassis and winch bumper (to stop it being nicked without a grinder) and I never even thought about disconnecting the battery etc ....
  21. Mick I'll bring a map round and show you where they are when I come to pick the wire up
