  1. You can do an easy test to see if this is doing as it should. Put your main gearbox in neutral. Hold your foot dead still on the throttle at a certain RPM, like 1500 say. Move the transfer lever into low, if it is plugged in and working as per LR intended the revs will drop. In low range if you do the same as you move back to high range the revs will lift. Mark
  2. This might help, not a paint expert though. Go here:- Standox Paint Then click:- formulations online, special search, passenger car, land rover. At search at begin type Brunel. You get:- (what ever it means)! category : Passenger car car maker : LAND ROVER code : LBO RANGE color : BRUNEL CHROME FINISH-MET. from-to : 2002-2002 panel : 104802 paint system : Standohyd Basecoat formula date : 31.03.03 amount : 1.0 litres Tint code Tint name Mass (g) Cumul. 3. I'm guessing the vehicle is over 3 years old? Warranty is actually 3 year unlimted mileage in the UK; so if under 3 years you should be fine. I think you should also be fine if a previous owner has extended the warranty as I belive private sale allows transfer of extended warranty. If the vehicle is over 3 years old; the fact that the vehicle is outside of warranty means Land Rover have no legal obligation for the repair of the vehicle. Land Rover do often support repairs after warranty expiration; but not usually when the vehicle has been bought from other than a main dealer or if servicing has been carried out elsewhere. Just my experience; you have nothing to loose by trying though. Mark.
  4. To copy Gromit:- Where did you buy the vehicle from? From a private individual, independant/specialist dealer, Main dealer? and how long ago? If you haven't bought from a main dealer I would wager that you will get no support from Land Rover. If you bought privately therefore is no comeback on the individual. If you've bought from an independant/specialist there needs to be a minimum of 3 months basic warranty (what it covers is a different issue) and you could argue that the price that you paid for the vehicle did not represent the condition if that becomes a problem. 5. Dan, Land Rover Customer Services is 0500 110 130. Mark
  6. Have a look at White 90's 110 which is in Rimini - Rimini Red - it's a great colour. Mark
  7. So the senario is:- The interior lights always come on with opening a door as they should; however sometimes when the car is locked the interior lights just come on and then go off after about ten minutes, as if a door had been opened and then left open. I've checked for dodgey operation in door pins but can't find any inconsitancey. I'm wondering if it is an ECU fault; as I am suprised if the interior lights are coming on the car must think the door is open and therefore since it is locked and alarmed why does the alarm not go off? This ones got me stumped and I know everyone will think I'm nuts when it gets plugged it into testbook and it will no doubt not throw up any faults. Any ideas or had the same issue?! Its a 56plate 110 Td5 XS SW. Cheers Mark
  8. If they're nicking it ouy of your filler cap your getting away lightly! A collegue at work and his 2 neighbours had their fuel nicked; drilled holes straight through the tanks. So not only the annoyance of the nicked fuel but also the shelling out for new fuel tanks and fitting!! Mark.
  9. Don't think I was driving it at that time; then again I struggle to remember what happened this morning, probably 1 of my collegues. Mark.
  10. Has anyone done this; and what system did you use? I know that on Disco 2 Td5's without cruise you can reterospectively fit the switches as it is ECU driven; does this mean that the relavant bits are in place on a Td5 Defender or is aftermarket the only way to go? And a brick for the accelerator is not an option! Cheers Mark.
  11. The steering wheel not being straight is a very common 1; although easily sorted. All new Defenders that I have seen for about the past 2 years from the factory suffer with that problem. No doubt due to the fact that its put on straight at the factory but as the suspension settles down then this would require adjustment. The rear seats will not fold on a double cab they are rigidly bolted in place, the levers are a left over from the station wagon. Mark
  12. It certainly seems to be a "marmite" colour. I like it, plus £475 cheaper than the metallics. We've been bold and ordered a number in this colour. Mark.
  13. Tim, I have not particularly noticed the gearbox itself getting hot. However 1 thing I have noticed is that downwards air vents which are just above the transmission tunnel, does allow air to pass through even if the dial is directed to up or face positions. This combined with the fact that the heater works properly has made my left leg cook a couple of times if the dial is on anything other than stone cold. Mark.
  14. A 07MY 110 SW is classed as a commercial vehicle (and therefore VAT is recliamable through a VAT registered company) whether it has the utility pack or not as the payload is over a 1000kg. This was the case on Td5 post a factory build date sometime in 04 (can't remember exact date) with alloys factory fitted; and is the case with all 07MY 110's (even without the alloys on 07MY I think, although I would need to check that 1). If the vehicle has been in private ownership first however it looses its VAT status. The Puma engine gets much looser from new with mileage than the Td5's did. I still can't stand the speed limiter; makes motorway overtaking a major pain in the arse! Hopefully my third 07 should be on the road tomorrow; a 110 XS DC in Keswick Green. Mark.
  15. No need to be a member, can turn up on the day as per the website. Quote "Thames Valley 4x4 Club are holding an off-road promotional driving day at Broxhead Common, Near Bordon, Hampshire on Sunday 5th August commencing at 9.00am. Broxhead Common is a popular MOD site with plenty of open space, mud and water to safely test both shiny vehicles and extreme off-roaders. A simple course will be laid out for beginners to follow whilst more experienced drivers can freely drive the area. Thames Valley 4x4 club is a family friendly club so why not make it a day out for the entire family. A burger van and toilets will be available. The event is being run under an MSA licence and basic scrutineering will apply (simple vehicle safety checks - see the website for details) . Cost is £25 for a full days driving. OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS, NON-MEMBERS, GUESTS AND SPECTATORS COME ALONG AND TRY IT OUT" Mark
  16. Hi Pigster, Apart from being thirsty on fuel, there are 2 things I know about. 1. Check for low coolant/emulsification in header tank; they can suffer from head gasket issues also. 2. If you can listen to engine from dead cold start for rattling caused by wear in the butterflies in the inlet manifold. (I know LR have changed the something in the engine management to help prevent this and have not seen the problem in a car a late as 04). Mark.
  17. 2 years down the line it's still a work in progress! It has very good approach and departure angels as standard with no mods. I'm am happy with where I am so far; apart from cost and not getting to use it as much as I would like; only done 2500 miles in 2 years! I would not start from scratch again though! Too much expense. I don't have the time, space, equipment and all of the required skills to build from ground up myself, so I got someone else to build it. If I ever have the desire to change the truck again; I would buy a truck that someone else had sunk their money into; like Mr Red Ibex or some of the other very well preped motors that you see for sale. You never get the time put in or money spent back when you come to sell. But if your looking to swap all your main components from the 110 it should be relatively straight forward. It also has as standard bulit-in individuallity which is what I wanted. I'll probably get shot for saying this, the main drawback I would say is that you can't always buy bits off the shelf like you can for a standard Landy. Snorkels, cages, guards, etc. Therefore if you're not a fabricator you need to have a good mate or get something custom made. Mark
  18. These were the prices back in 2004:- I don't know what they are now but as with most things, I guess probably up! Mark
  19. Very easy and cheap check. Take the stiff prop off and go for a run up the road with the diff lock on and see if the vibration has gone. Mark.
  20. Just recieved my DVD - cheers Nige and everyone for the photos. There are some great ones - highly recommended. The 1 thing I can't dois open Ed Ellis's Video though; i get this message "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help." of course that is no help to me being computer dumb. Any ideas? Cheers Mark
  21. I can't win them all. Hope your enjoying it. Mark.
  22. I think its like all things you here plenty of horror stories. If you look at all the trucks with them fitted in the states running to massive milages it must be OK?! I heard a lot of the "Samurai Conversion" engines were horrible with oval bores; but thats poor build, not engine design. A poorly assembled LR engine can be just as bad and there are plenty of people who will slate anything they've had a bad experience with. Mines not done much milage; it was built in the states by a company that knows the engines inside out. What I like is it has loads of torque, sounds good for a diesel (has the V8 noise), no off boost issues, no electrics. But I don't want to tempt fate too much!! Mark.
  23. Used to work in an independant 4X4 specialist. Now- Sales Exec at Lancaster Land Rover in Reading. You know who to come to if you want a new Land Rover!! Mark.
