  1. Looking at that report on Yahoo, it seems that having got evidence that no one wants it Blair is going to do it anyway. The best bit of spin is comment of being a "control freak" this some how is not then? The scary thing about Blair is that he will not leave his position of power until he has done something he can gloat about, sorry of course I meant he can be proud of.
  2. Blimey Thanks for that I got about half of that first time of reading but should get better reading it again Dumb question time again. I may have seen this in a previous topic, does this mean that the RRC/LR rear setup with a A frame is 3 3/4 but not a full 4 link then? by sacrificing locational rgidity for lateral articulation?
  3. OK it's thicko time again. Sorry. I understand Watts, and the Woblink (mostly) but I've only seen 4 link with either a Panard Rod or Watts. What type of 4 link are you looking at? Are you using outside links that are paralell to the chassis and 2 inside links that are at an angle to reduce sideways movement? as per old mark 3/4 cortinas I think? Cheers,
  4. Did not see that the idea had been scrapped, however I did see the uproar the website has caused in Government. Apparently no other petition on the site has had much interest. MP's are slagging off the site and the creator. Funny I thought the Government was supposed to act in our favour
  5. Interesting quote from section 1.2 Project Brief Summary "There is mounting evidence that some motorists are displaying the wrong VRM in order to evade fines and charges, resulting in the keepers of the genuine vehicles associated with that VRM receiving enforcement notices for which they are not responsible." If you used this as a defence for a fine the Police and thier website advised that thhis does not happen and that you are wasting your time using this as a defence. Interestingly Landrover registered two identical RRC with the same VRM, we only found out when my friend got a speeding ticket that he didnot earn (this time anyway) it was only when he got a copy of the photo that he could prove it due to a sticker on the rear of the motor. Up until then the Police would not accept it.
  6. Thanks for the comments, I did a quick look to see if it was ther and could not see it.
  7. Solder and motor vehicles, not a good idea if vibration is present. It is to do with the "It makes the wire stiff" comment. When you solder multistrand wire (which is the only wire that survies vibration) the end of the wire which is soldered becomes a solid wire, when the wire is subject to vibration the multistrands flex and absorb the movement, up until the point it reaches the solid solder end. With all the vibration focused here it gradualy fractures each strand until it fails completely. That was what I was tought at work anyway.
  8. Know what you mean, I used to work with a guy who owned a RRC and would drive at 70 on the motorway in snow as it was a 4 wheel drive so it's OK.
  9. I believe that the law relates to carrying out repairs on the road. Trouble is the AA and RAC can so what is the difference?
  10. The Government Pettiton web page has one against the idea of the Government using electronic stallite tracking for road use charging. TAX to you and me If you are against it then go to the official Government web site at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/ to register. This pettiton is open untill February 20th only but had 820,000 approx against it.
  11. As a recently new member on this fine forum, I came here looking for quality advice and information. I have tried other motoring forums but only stayed on for seconds as the amount of adverts made it nigh on impossible to read or find anything. This forum is the best I have come across in my limited experience, it is very clear and has large windows for each post instead of a staggered approach. Most of this is possible I guess due to no advertising space, HOWEVER it is fantastic that the serious vendors who post here do so to help the members and I find it invaluable that they will step in and solve an issue. It does not bother me that they have stuff to sell as the collective membership will ensure that nothing incorrect or biased would go uncommented on. It seems to me that the vendors that are on this forum are offering the best quality specialist products in a market place that is stuffed full of companies who just want to turn a buck and are not interested in moving the sport forward. I like the idea of the bottom line being a link to show whom they are as this would actually help new members recognise who has just given the help and why it is accurate. Last point, from an outside point of view, it seems that this forum has a number of people who create products that solve the problems that the other members need a solution to. What a fantastic resource for both sides of the equation and a great way to advance the sport.
  12. Unlucky, I sent out my Series 1 and M/C logbooks and nothing came back. Contacted DVLA and got free replacement plus the originals turned up in the post late.
  13. Dunno Looked like the hockey sticks are at a bit of an angle to me?
  14. Why is it rare? IIRC most 70's/ 80's Rolls V8s were over priced Yank motors. When one broke it was cheaper to get a the original makers version. In fact Top Gear did a bit on a guy who had a second hand RR parts shop and told TG the same thing.
  15. Confused Most Hybrids are LR on RR so what is your RR body on?
  16. Chassis can rot just behind the large crossmember that has the rear "A" frame attched to it. The place it rots is on top of the chassis leg where the 45 degree webb is as this fills with mud and does not wash out. Also behind there is the hole that the brake pipe runs through. Another place is all around the rear spring mounts, in front, inside and behind! Lots of fun
  17. Finally the BBC Breakfast show, that bastion of all things accurate and unbiased , had another 4x4 discussion this morning. The difference was this time the finally got someone involved who knew what he was talking about. Todays show included Top Gears Quentin Willson to keep this sane. Whilst the "Safety Campaigner" complained about 4x4 use is unfair to drivers of cheap tin boxes as a 4x4 driver had a safer car Quentin kept to the subject that eco issues have nothiing to do with 4x4 's as it is all to do with emmissions not number of driven wheels, and compared a oil burning school run 4x4 to a ministers Omega. Now the BBC want to see veiwer respone. Strangely there is no link to the topic on the website.
  18. Don't know about the EU rulling the last EU rulling I heard about old cars was an attempt to ban all cars over 15 years old unless part of a museum collection!
  19. IIRC Conservative brought it in as a rolling 25 year period. Labouor goot in and stopped at the first date forever.
  20. Like em. This ones personal. My Dad was a military Air Traffic Controller, the local flting club gave all the local RAF officers a free social membership so we used to go there on Sunday lunchtimes. One Sunday my dad was the bar with a friend and overheard two light aircraft pilots talking about their route to France. As they talked my dad heard something that worried him and went up to their table. "Excuse me I just overheard your conversation, and I sorry but I have to tell you that you can't take your proposed route" Pilot "I'm sorry but who the f£$k are you? I am a qualified pilot and I choose where and when I fly so why don't you f$£k o%f" Dad " Well you might be a qualified pilot but you still can't fly that route" Pilot "Oh and please tell me why the f^%k not?" Dad "Mainly because your flightplan takes you straight across Heathrow Airport" Frightenly light aircraft pilots did not need to submit a flightplan
  21. But IIR doesn't Europe ban cars over 15 years old?
  22. Saw an article in a UK mag that said it was a UK company making RR Sport limos and exporting them. I will try and find it.
  23. On one of the shows I watched the commentator mentioned the lead brit but said that there was no coverage as the TV crew was European (French) and so were not interested in the Bowlers etc.
  24. Sorry but bling bling really doesn't work on a landy
  25. Thanks Chris, most likley is water then, it doesn't feel spongy like air so I guess it's due a chage of fluid.
